Trade idea for Lakers
The lakers need more than josh smith, I'm not sure Jesus could take this team to the playoffs. Los Angeles can get much more for Dwight and I'm pretty sure Josh Smith would leave to go elsewhere as l.A. is a sinking ship
You really think the Lakers would get more for Dwight? Did you not see what the Magic got for Dwight? I mean common they would be so lucky to get Josh Smith ,just because the Lakers doesn't mean everything goes there way or does it?
Yes. The magic had no choice but to trade him the lakers have leverage now as they can wait and see who gives him the best package. Orlando got a guy who is averaging 19 points and a center who is averaging 11 and 11, plus a future wing stopper with a ton of defensive potential, how did they get the short end of the stick? Josh is nothing but a rental as he wont stay. Billy King is already trying to pure a nice package for him right now
Thought about this many times and I've also thought about Dwight for Horford and so on. Both teams should be looking to make a deal.
maybe they could dump Artest's contract somehow in the trade...but i think most players would stay in a market like L.A. just because of the off-court opportunities and the weather
I think Horford is a better fit along side that team, but Smith is much better for the system.
How about this trade just for kicks
Brook Lopez to Atlanta
Dwight Howard to Nets
Josh Smith to Lakers
Bmore, the trade you proposed makes so much sense its almost guaranteed not to happen. Horford and smith are both PFs and Atlanta would love to take a chance on dwight. Makes sense for both teams. Good trade.

Dwight to ATL
Horford & Lowery to DAL
D. Harris, Kaman, & VC to TOR
Bargniani, Marion, & Collison to LAL
Not sure ifits true Howard wouldnt stay in ATL, but I like a Howard for Hortford deal. I think Hortford meshes perfectly with Gasol- and I feel many of you feel this way since many posts on here was saying Atl should deal Josh SMith for Gasol. THing is, Atl wont do this as they do not want Gasol's contract. Hortford will not clog up the post for Gasol. Lakers can send Howard and a bad contract, like Artest, to Atlanta for Hortford, Korver (Shooter), Harris 8 mill expiing) and picks (Atlanta owns Rockets pick this year, lotto protected).
I personally think that josh Smith is overrated and since he is gonna want a max deal he isn't worth it for LA.
There was a report that ATL offered LA a package of smith+ any other player and a 1st rounder for Dwight.
I personally would rather get horford+teague and korver if that were possible. Over Smith and any other player.
Horford+teague and korver for dwight and filler. What do you guys think?
Horford+teague+deshawn stevenson(defensive stopper) for Howard and any of the lakers point gaurds. Josh smith, and howard would be pretty decent combination for atlanta, then the hawks would just need a point guard and a good wing. They should have cap space too. teague is a nice young point guard. for the lakers also stevenson is a good defender off the bench. Then Horford would be able to complement Pau in the post. I know it isnt perfect, but it is a decent trade and fairly even
here it is separated
lajers get horford, teague, stevenson
hawks get Howard and any point guard of the lakers other than steve nash.
From a basketball and trade value standpoint I like the Dwight for Josh Smith trade especially if its constructed something like Dwight for Josh Smith, Kyle Korver, and either Willie Greens trade exception or John Jenkins and a 1st rounder with lottery protection for 2-3 years. Thats almost even money for both sides and it allows both teams to straighten out their frontcourts and get the principle players in the trade a badly needed change of scenery. Dwight and Horford easily challenge Chicago and New York as having the best starting front court in the East Conference and give Atl an instant shot in the arm because they have looked really stagnant lately. Horford would love to move back to the 4 spot and Dwights presence enables him to do that plus I believe they would play off eachother pretty well.
From the Lakers perspective this trade works out well because first of all they make Kobe happy and we all know how important that is lol. A frontcourt of Gasol and J-smoove seems like it would work well together, plus it gets Pau off the bench allows him to be the first frontcourt option which means he actually might start playing hard again and quit &$#%#&@!ing to the media. The trade also brings in at least one top caliber shooter in Korver who should start immediately and allow for better floor spacing and allow Mike D's offense to have better flow as well as put Ron Ron on the bench where he belongs, he been playing hard but he needs to be playing 20-25 minutes off the bench focusing on hounding people on def and maybe playing him as a small 4. The only scary thing about this trade is seeing J-smoove be forced to be a stretch 4 and jacking up even more long 2s and 3s.
As far as Atl trading Horford I just dont see it, Atl is going to have a ton of cap space when they sort out all of their cap holds and who gets tendered an offer after this season and they are obviously building around Horford, whos under team control for 3 more years and signed to a reasonable contract. It wouldnt make sense for them to trade Horford for Dwight who is a free agent after this season unless they were given a guarantee Dwights signing an extension but we all know that isnt happening.
How could you say Josh Smith is over-rated? Hes a top 5 defender, leads his team to the playoffs every year, and has NEVER made an all-star game...wouldnt that make him UNDER-rated by definition? SMDH

I dont usually do trade ideas....
But what about Dwight Howard for Josh Smith?
Let me explain....
Yes, they are both free agents, but its obvious Josh Smith and the Hawk's have had enough of eachother. He would be perfect for Dantoni's system and would love the show-time aspect of the Lakers winning tradition. He wants to be in a bigger market and would re-sign in a heartbeat (i think). I also think he would go well with Gasol, Kobe, and Nash because he provides some defense and athletic ability. It would also save the Lakers some money, unless Smith thinks he's worth a max contract.
Meanwhile, Dwight gets to go home and fix his dwindling image. He would be given the keys to the franchise in his hometown and would fit well alongside Horford IMO.
Just a thought.
