Det get Carmelo Anthony and Kenyon Martin ….NYC gets Monroe Stuckey and Jerebko

Det get a legit sf…who can post up and punish other sf, like josh did at sf…Plus he’s a shooter (which would put pressure on alot of opposing sf’s). While anthony not an elite defender, he’s not bad either. I believe that would be covered up with Drummond and Smith protecting the paint and KCP helping out on the perimeter. Finally, they get a go to player who knows how to close out games in the late 4th (something detroit has had problems with). With Kenyon Martin he brings a little roughness in the paint, and and stretch the floor off the bench.

With NYC,  they get a Legit pf/C who knows how to score downlow and unselfish and can play well with either chandler (help monroe defensively like drummond did and gives them length) or Bargani (would be a good inside out play). With Stuckey they get another SG (can play pg) that I believe is a upgrade over Felton(if he starts). Jerebko gives them a versitile pf/sf energy player. From a financial standpoint, this gives the Knicks salary cap relief  in the off season because right now they are in salary cap hell (especially since they resigned JR smith).  If monroe works out they can resign him in the offseason, or let him walk. Same with Stuckey, they can trade him again during the trade deadline for a draft pick or let him walk in the off season and have his salary off the books. Leaving the knicks with alot money to sign a big name player. Tim Hardaway also gets a chance to shine too.

Josh Smith and Carmelo have really similar games. I doubt they could co-exist.

Not really, Carmelo is able to shoot the three and midrange consistently, and he has better handles than him. Meanwhile, Josh is a better defender, shot blocker, post up player and suited better at the pf position than melo(which he sometimes played in NY)I don’t know how that makes them similar other than both are versatile, which would be a plus when playing opposing teams. Also both will be playing their position  (smith pf, and anthony sf)

I dont like it as a knicks supporter. if im dolin im not doing this. we traded alot of our future for Melo. i Dont see  how renting Monroe and stuckey for one year puts us in any better situation then we are already in .

why on earth would ny trade for monroe when they would still be paying stoudemire and chandler.that makes 0 sense.you also dont trade somebody who avgs 30 for somebody who avgs 16.only way this would make any type of sense for ny is if a top 3 pick was involved

^^^ It’s also for salary cap reasons too as well. Not just  for players. Knicks have no significant salaries coming off the books this season.. With stuckey and Monroe off the books..they can sign a max player in 13′ and it takes off some of the stress for having bargani and amare contract Who will be off in two years, so they can potentially sign another superstar like love in 14′. Also I’m pretty sure Detroit would throw in some 2nd rd draft picks to sweeten the deal as well. Makes a lot of sense from the Knicks standpoint IMO …

Couple of things the Knicks could easily trade Tyson Chandler for an expiring contract since he has value and have cap room I think.  Having Amare on the team doesn’t mean he’s a starting PF that averages 30-35 mins a game.

The Knicks don’t like to play him in b2b games or a lot of mins.

Unfortunately the Knicks and by that I mean Dolan won’t trade Melo they have already said.

This could change if they fall out of the division race which would be hard to see.

The Nets are a lost cause w/out Brook Lopez now and KG, Pierce, Terry are all old and DWill is no longer an elite QB.

Boston still doesn’t have Rondo and is struggling.  Toronto I don’t trust but who knows they are winning since the Gay trade.

Realistically the Knicks aren’t a threat to Miami or Indiana esp. now but in 2-3 weeks Prigioni, Felton, KMart will all be back healthy and they’ll have everyone healthy.  After that who knows but when healthy they have enough talent to be the 3rd or 4th best team in the East.

Who gets the ball most between Josh Smith, Carmelo Anthony and Brandon Jennings? Detroit is currently 24th in assists but 13th in FG % due to Monroe’s inside game. Dont get me wrong, Melo is a better scorer than those 3 combined but he’s a black hole in the game. The trade neither helps the two teams.

How is Melo a black hole when his team makes the playoffs every year.

Not his fault he’s gone up against better teams like the Spurs, Lakers, Heat, Celtics, Pacers so much.  Also when he had Billups they made the WCF and last year they Knicks should’ve made the ECF. How many playoff series have the Nuggets won since that trade.

Since he’s been in NY he’s dealt w/nothing but injuries esp. in the playoffs to this PG, Amare and had no 2nd scorer to help him.

1st year Amare, Billups got hurt and this was before Chandler so they had no PG or C in the playoffs. Basically it was Toney Douglas against Rondo which was a joke.  2nd year they had no PG since Baron Davis wasn’t in shape and in comes Lin and everyone thinks he’s the greatest player ever.  Except that he was in the perfect system w/D’antoni and the pick n roll w/Amare & Chandler.  After Melo comes back they lose a few games and ppl blame him but they forgot the law of averages and teams caught up on how to defend Lin.  Then Lin has a knee injury so they are left w/Baron Davis & Bibby against Miami the best team in the league.  To make matters worse Shumpert tears his ACL after just the 1st half in Game 1.  Amare foolishly punches a fire extinguisher after a tough game 2 loss so they lose him for Game 3.  Last year Chandler got hurt that’s why you saw Hibbert dominate so much.  JR was horrible after that scuffle w/Terry and the suspension.  Yes Melo didn’t have a good series but he was great in game 6.

Go back to the regular season he lost Wallace, Camby, Amare, Thomas, Felton for long periods of time and they still won over 50.  He would’ve been MVP if not for Lebron having an all-time great yr & the Heat winning over 60 games.

Last I checked Durant, Kobe, Wade never won a round in the playoffs w/out a legit 2nd star.  How many years did Wade lose in the 1st round after Shaq was traded and Kobe lost to the Suns in 05, 06 and has done nothing in the playoffs the last 2 years he played except beat the Nuggs in a game 7 at home.

Not saying Melo is better than these superstars but people act like he’s losing to 40 win teams in the playoffs.

Some of it is on the coach because he doesn’t run enough pick n rolls w/Melo, Amare and its too much 1 on 1 even with the other guys.  Iso is def. a big par tof his game but when you have guys like Chandler, Shumpert, Prigioni starting you don’t have real scorers. Amare and Melo don’t work well though I think if you put Amare at the 5 and Melo at 4 it could but the defense would be a big problem.

Yes he’s not an elite defender or passer like Lebron and doesn’t shoot a high % like Durant.  Still he’s the best PF in the East and even at SF he’d be top 5.

I don’t like when Melo is late rotating to defenders which leads to 3s but his individual 1 on 1 defense is fine. As for assists they don’t run enough and he needs guys like Shumpert/JR to take it to the rim they def. have the skill & athleticisim to get it done.

Melo is too much in the post for me should be using his quickness against PFs off the dribble and pulling up for elbow jumpers since he has a quick 1st step.  Pounding in the post works when he gets doubled and guys are hitting 3s but the others haven’t been hitting 3s much.

It doesn’t help when JR, Shumpert, Felton aren’t hitting anything and Prigioni doesn’t shoot much.  Woodson doesn’t play Hardaway enough for some strange reason esp. in the crunch time in the 4th qtr. Shumpert looks lost out there and he’s defense isn’t that great since he fouls a lot and is beaten back door.  If he was a lock down defender who could run the point that would be different. I think the kid has a future but he needs to work on his offense a lot.  Hardaway looks like he’ll be a player and should be getting 30 mins every night he can spread the defense with his 3 pt. shot and is very quick in transition something the Knicks are lacking.

This year the Knicks have been horrible in crunch time and part of that has been Melo’s fault esp. the Nuggets, Hawks games.

As for the trade obviously it would be foolish to give up young prospect for Melo if he doesn’t resign.  I kind of like Stuckey for the Knicks they need a Guard who scores and takes it to the rim.
