Tracy McGrady
As you said, I really enjoyed watching him play, and he was a phenomenal athlete, however to me; he just doesn't feel hall of fame.
Career accolades:
7X All-Star
2X First Team all NBA
3X Second Team all NBA
Which are great accolades, however he could never lead a team past the first round of the playoff.
I really like him as a player ,and enjoyed watching him play, but to me he was a good player, just not a great or transcendant one.
He's done and I don't see the hall of fame.
Ever since he was the 75th best player in the Slam mag, I always felt he was being overrated. He was a great scorer and that was it. He was not bringing a team to a title. Even with Yao, he began getting injured. This guy wasn't gonna be a HOF to me.
Hall of Fame talent? Yes but that does not neccesarily cut it, injuries can really affect a guys chances even with extreme talent, see Grant Hill. McGrady could have been a HOFer barring serious injury but sadly things happen and he will not be inducted.
But the NBA is not all offense.
He was a fan favorite but I stated: He was one of the most overrated players in the NBA's history. I think he doesn't get in the HOF.
Mr. Knick and I have had countless debates about McGrady. I don't think he gets into the hall and I don't think he was overrated in his prime.
i dont think he gets into the hall. But he was a no question first ballot hall of famer had he stayed healthy. Prime tmac would be right in the mix with todays very best wings.
T-Mac was a very good defender before he became the main scoring threat in Orlando.
YES, HALL OF FAME
"
Two wings who weren't good
Two wings who weren't good defenders and could constantly shoot you out of games? Yup, that's a title team right there."
Couldn't agree more. Vince and TMac does not sound like the building blocks for a title team. They both implode in the playoffs.
T-Mac himself doesn't implode in the playoffs. He is top 5 all time in playoff ppg I think.
That can hardly be blamed on him though. It's not like he didn't perform well.
I never said he was a Hall of Famer. He never had an easy first round matchup either, and you know as well as I do his teams Orlando teams sucked. I mean you can place some blame on him, but not all of it, or even most of it. He always got his.
To say he was overrated is laughable. No one ever questioned how good he was when he was on top of his game 2x first team all NBA 3x second team. Not debateable even if 2percent says overrated and 98percent says not overrated
I think he's a hall of famer. Hall of fame is more individual then what you do for you're team. If you don't agree watch how billups and rip don't get in while Nash gets in without ever getting to the finals
Also tmac stepped up in the playoffs everytime the fact is his teammates didn't. Same with lebron last year while mo Williams and Antwan Jamison averaged 13ppg whie shooting in the low 30. Percentile
Also scored while putting up 6reb 5ast per and being a pretty good (not great) defender
Accolades like All NBA team and such really don't mean much to me when you don't win. Excuse me, they carry little merrit to me.
I think he was overrated in the fact "If he had a great team around him, he'd would have won as a #1 option." I disagree about that. I didn't like the fact he couldn't carry his team when it meant the most. I will admit, sometimes, the team didn't show up around him but there were some SERIES where he could have won and just got shut out and couldn't put it together
2. He admit to not playing hard. Even when you don't play hard, don't admit it because to me: I just feel like you don't care. I LOVED Vince Carter as a player growing up but when I developed more basketball knowledge, I realize you just don't do that and when Vince said it, I lost all respect for him.
3. I really didn't like what he did with Orlando even though they were a terrible team.
mr knick, with all due respect, you are missing the boat with tmac. He was absolutely amazing and was on his way to a sure fire hall of fame career. Tmac in his prime was better then durant and melo right now.
I'm not questioning his talents. He was a good player. I would never put him in the elite level. I honestly feel you could not win a title with him as a #1 player.
Those other things I listed are just a couple things that swayed my opinion on him.
Anybody who watched the Raptors when they had both those guys, knows that in games they played together they pushed each other to play harder. When one would have a big game, the next night the other guy tried to out do him. The NBA is 50 percent mental, and after Tmac left, they're wasn't anybody to push these guys to lead their respective teams to much success.
i dont think he is a all of famer but if he could have remained healthy he had a chance to be one of the best scorers ever... back in 04 when he had that game with 60+ points is one of the more impressive performances i have seen
T-Mac will be a Hall of Famer..But maybe not a 1st ballot..If he hadnt gotten hurt..He might finished his career as 1 of the top 10 shooting guards of alltime..you have to remember only a few years ago people were asking who was better him or Kobe?
among the top 40 scorers of all time.
6 -top 10 in MVP voting
2 top 5 finishes in MVP voting
scored 62 points in just 3 quarters...
2 time scoring champ...

This guy was my IDOL, I wore #1 on my jersey for years, I have an Orlando Magic jersey, Houston Rockets jersey, some all star game jerseys.. Now my question... Is he done?
And if he is, is he a hall of famer?
