torontoraptors10ParticipantValanciunas, High 2012 Pick, Cap Space Gives Raptors Optimism
Mar 16, 2012 12:26 PM EDTThe Raptors continued to stay the course of preserving cap space and in building for the long-term by not making a trade that compromises that direction.
"Based on our current record, we are going to stand in a position to add another quality talent, possibily a top-five talent," said Colangelo.
"With the addition of (Jonas) Valanciunas, the addition of a new player we might select (in the draft), the flexibility that could net another player (in free agency) we feel very good about where we stand."
———————————————————————————————-As a Raptor fan I am really excited! I think this is Colangelo’s last attempt to fix the team and I believe this is the best position we have been in since he has come to Toronto. We have an amazing player in Jonas Valanciunas in Europe and we are going to have a top 5 pick in the draft to rebuild. DeRozan is coming into his own, even though he struggled this year at times, I just feel he is getting use to Casey’s controlled system. Not to mention Casey is bringing out the best in Bargnani and he is playing really well as well. Amir Johnson is playing excellent as well. He know his role and know hows to play in that role and be effective. We will have cap space next year maybe to go after a big name FA or use that money to sign DeRozan long term. Colangelo also said he traded Barbosa to give more PT to Forbes and Bayless and wants to see how they develop. I REALLY want Toronto to have a good basketball team. We have great fans and support base and we really want a winner here.
What do you guys and ladies think? Do you think the Raptors have one of the best futures in the NBA?

CoolidgerParticipantI think the Raptors have given themselves good flexibility and a good mix of young talent for the future.
I think that if they can land Michael Kidd-Gilchrist or Harrison Barnes this off season, that both would help fill their lineup. A lineup of Calderon/Derozan/Barnes or Kidd-Gilchrist-Bargnani-Valanciunas seems pretty good to me, especially since most of their games complement each other nicely. That would also leave their bench with some good young talent and with a couple of second rounders and some cap space, I think the Raptors could be a serious contender for the final playoff spot in the east as early as next season. As a Raptors fan, i’m excited for next season, and also the arrival of Jonas Valanciunas.

thparadoxParticipantwell, the celtics would never ever do that. and bayless would not work at SG.
But at least you’re trying to trade Calderon, thumbs up to that.
Colangelo is good at drafting. But someone please take his chequebook away. If the raptors signed Wilson Chandler that would have been the last straw for me.
We need to sell our assets and rebuild around a superstar. Building a mediocre team is completely pointless.
