Toronto offers Nash; 3yr/36mil

The Toronto Raptors have offered free agent point guard Steve Nash a three-year, $36 million contract, according to sources.

Nash, a two-time NBA MVP, has spent the past eight seasons with the Phoenix Suns, but has made it a point in recent interviews to stress that he's "open to everything" and says he'll listen to any team that calls.

However, industry sources monitoring the free-agent market have identified Toronto as one of four teams that pose the greatest danger to the Suns in terms of signing Nash away, including the Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets.

Sources close to the process said Sunday that the Nets have requested a meeting with Nash and will speak to him Monday morning.

The Nets have interest in Nash both as a prime replacement for Deron Williams should they lose Williams to Dallas, but also a potential backcourt mate for Williams.

It has been widely anticipated that Phoenix would offer him a new two-year deal worth at least $20 million, but it remains to be seen how far Suns owner Robert Sarver will go when the bids start coming in.

The Arizona Republic reported Friday night that the Suns "do not appear willing to meet (Nash's) wish for a three-year deal" and Suns officials are already fighting the perception that they selected North Carolina point guard Kendall Marshall with the 13th pick in Thursday night's draft as the first step in dealing with Nash's eventual departure.

Nash earned nearly $12 million last season and averaged 12.5 points and 10.7 assists for a team that, with no 20-point scorer, nearly snagged the last playoff spot in the West.

Nash was born in South Africa but is a Canadian citizen and was even hired in May as general manager of the Canadian men's basketball team.

What do y'all think about a

What do y'all think about a Nash/deron Williams back court for the mavs? Now adays there aren't to many sgs that are complete mismatches ,the only 2 I can think of is Kobe and wade but as far as every other team I think deron could guard any 2 guard in the league

On top of offering him more

On top of offering him more money than anyone else can, they're apparently offering him a position in the front office whenever he retires. http://aol.sportingnews.com/nba/story/2012-07-01/nba-free-agency-steve-nash-post-career-toronto-raptors-phoenix-suns

Rileymcshea, I agree that no

Rileymcshea, I agree that no one would ba able to guard a D-Will and Nash backcourt, but they also wouldn't be able to guard anyone as well. They're both top 7 PGs, D-Will might be able to play the 2, but I don't think them together is possible, maybe on the Mavs though.

No way he turns down that

No way he turns down that kind of money.

With Valanciunas coming over plus Ross at sg, and Nash making Derozen and Bargnani that much better. They could easily be a playoff team.

I'd love to see Nash and D.

I'd love to see Nash and D. Howard in Nets uniforms next year. Nash lives in the West Village during the summer, I think. So if he can stay in New York he might find that attractive. And of course playing with D. Howard would be attractive. While Howard would prefer to team with the younger DWill for a longer period of time, Nash would be even better at getting him the ball. They would just run pick and roll plays like Nash did with Amare and it would be a dominate basketball play. While Howard would make up for a lot of Nash's defensive limitations.
