I don’t understand why top hs players don’t take a year in the gleague instead of college.  It seems the nba has shown if your a top 5 hs basketball player in your class you almost certainly will get drafted no matter how bad you play Harry Giles Terrance Ferguson.  Why not go to gleague play against grown men who were NCAA stars and if you average 5ppg the excuse is you were playing against former all Americans but say a prospect comes in and gets 15 in gleague shouldn’t that carry more wait than NCAA. I used to think it was marketing but when a guy like Lonzo Ball the biggest story in college basketball last year and Deaaron fox only get offered a couple million multi year shoe deals same with Ben Simmons I think they could get the same deal while focusing on basketball 24/7 and getting prepared for the rules of the NBA and playing grown men on more games than college basketball.

Because G league pays crap and if you suck in G league you can be down there for another year or two. You suck in college you can return for a sophmore year. Example, Marques Bolden, projected as a lottery pick out of HS, he didn’t peform well his freshmen year so he returns (Not sure how much he’ll shine now that Bagley picked Duke but that’s another topic)

Also you mentioned Giles, he was hurt all season, how would that helped him in the G league?

Also NO ONE watches the G league on TV, it is good marketing to go to college. There’s a college game on a major network 3-4 times a week, how many G league games on a major during the week? ESPN doesn’t show G league highlights, interviews, short stories, etc. Smarter to attend college for a year.

You really think that a top rated high school guy goes to the GLeague they won’t be on Tv.  They are televising hs basketball games to see these guys be serious.  Get paid at worst 25k plus an early start on a shoe deal or financial aid I’ll take the 25k free room and board online classes and a shoe deal because let’s be real if bagley went to gleague he gets a shoe deal and let’s not forget if your in gleague you can stay until your draftable so in essence you don’t have to declare for the draft until maybe your 20 or 21 and then you get a guaranteed contract and can actually stick in the league.  Many plates have mentioned in the past how hard it is to get back in the league so use the gleague to their advantage.  As far as prospects sucking in gleague and not getting drafted the only player to try it latavious Williams who was not even I believe a top 30 prospect got drafted in early days of the dleague and Terrance Ferguson put up 5 ppg in the ABL last year so guaranteed guys would still go first round.  I think it’s funny the lack of Trail Blazers.  I think other options have not been explored due to the lack of success by the players who chose to take these routes.  The thing is the guys who went overseas where never the top guy.  I would like to see a guy like Zion Williamson go straight to the gleague where the open court game would play to his strengths.

I like Zion mixtapes like the rest of the world but it would be terrible for him to skip college and enter the G league. He’s dunking on little 5’7 private school kids. He needs to work on his jump shot and his handles. If he goes to the G league against grown azz men he’ll be exposed, he needs a year or two of college.

Why would a Top Hs player go into the Nba Development League? LoL. All those guys in there got Drafted or put their name in the Draft and went Undrafted. Nobody wants to be in the G-league. Most players in the G-League would rather take their talents across seas not to mention if you Out there getting Killed by Briante Weber and Justin Dentmon night in/ night out what do you tbi,k Westbrook, Lillard, Steph and company would do to you.

The Nbdl has very Close relations with the Nba. Nba scouts will be on your every move. The team that you play for will honestly know if to draft you or not. And if they past you Its a good indication that other teams will pass you too.

I’m pretty sure there is many rules and Regulations on that type of scenario especially since the Nba could call that Hs player up at any time to play a real nba game. That would defeat the purpose of getting drafted anyway. It would do more harm to your draft stock then food. And if you do play well it can erase your whole draft stock completely.

I’ll give you four reasons why kids are choosing to college for that one year over the D League.

    A. The college basketball atmosphere is special and the games have incredible meaning. Have you ever been to a Duke-UNC game, or a game at Allen Fieldhouse? NBA games aren’t even on that level of excitement, let alone the D League. The D League may technically be on TV but there are six people in the stands and five of them are asleep. Nobody cares. Even the most ardent basketball fan probably couldn’t name a single D League team let alone care if they won or lost a game.

Getting to play college basketball has significant meaning.

    B. These guys are still kids. Maybe they want to experience college life. I went to military and then went to college and had a lot of money saved up and that was the point in my life in which I had the most fun. And I’ve had more fun than most people. Kids that are going to be draft picks can get loans against future earnings and have a year to remember and grow up a little.

    C. The coaching. Who would you rather play for, coach K or some half rate hack on the D League sidelines? NBA Hall of Famers were signing up to play in the Olympics to get to experience playing for coach K. The college game and the pro game are different and learning how to play in the college game under Roy Williams or coach K even if for just one year, will make you better in the long run.

    D. Despite the fact that most of these kids are there for a short time,  there is something to be said for the educational experience at an elite institution. These guys are going to be in public life, so communication, marketing, financial management. etc., classes have value. You’d be surprised how many of them go back and work on their degree later in life for those reasons.

A lot of kids would choose the NBA over all this out of high school, but the bottom line is the NBA is relevant. Until the D League is relevant, I don’t think many kids will forgo the college experience for it.

Want to play for an NBA development team, but still want to play in college for a year?  No problem.  The solution is the University of Kentucky.  The college experience, with a dozen scouts at every practice.  Calipari has turned UK into an NBA finishing school.  Intense college environment with near 100% focus on getting ready for the draft in June.

Players would prefer playing overseas rather than the G-League because half a million dollars is alot more than fifty thousand. The CBA is a decent league as far as structure and publicity goes so its the most attractive choice. The accomodations are also way better than the G-Leagues and many European leagues as far as travel and rooming goes. For marketing the target audience in China is broad and the competition is weaker so to build yourself as a product in that market is wise in case your attempts in the NBA fall short. Still I believe the College system works and dont forget making the NBA is just the first step your gonna want to be prepared and developing your game in College against the same age group and physicality is probally the best route for most draft prospects even the ones who think they are ready for the NBA.
