    I need some help,
Recently starting 2 guard, Wesley Matthews, of the Utah Jazz was signed to an offer sheet by Portland. The deal is huge, 9.2 million has to be paid in the first year, afterwards the contract will only be worth about 5 million a year. If Utah matches the deal, then they will have to use their midlevel exception for Boozer, which means no possible backup at the 4 or starter at the 4 that Utah could sign. I do not want this to happen cause then we would most likely see Koufos backing up Millsap. I don’t even want to see him with the Jazz next year. I have completely lost faith in him. So this is why I don’t think Utah should match the offer(I originally thought they should but after I learned that they would have to use the midlevel exception on him in order to do so, I changed my mind) I love Matthews and I would like to keep him but I don’t want the Jazz to use the mid level exception on him and consequently not find a replacement for Boozer or a backup for Millsap(a respectable one, not Koufos). So maybe they could not match the offer, use the midlevel exception on a 4 as originally planned, resign Fez and then go into the luxury tax to find a replacement for Matthews at the 2. They have Miles and he could possibly replace Matthews but Utah would have no backup and might have to plug newly drafted Hayward at the 2 as a backup. (would that role work for him, I think he is originally a 3)

Who are some top FA agent 2 guards that Utah could go after as a replacement for loosing Matthews or as a suitable backup to Miles? (Do not mention Ronnie Brewer cause I regard him as more of a 3 not a 2. Although I would like to see him in a Jazz uniform come next season, just not at the 2 because to me he is more of a 3 because of his shooting ability or lack thereof)

honestly its not looking to good for the Jazz right now.. I agree with you that they shouldnt match the Portland offer because of the whole it would leave for them in post. 2 players that i would think of as pretty good options for the jazz at 2 coming from free agency are roger mason jr or josh howard. either one would be a gamble at this point but if you want to contend for a title sometimes you have chance on some guys. san antonio is also going to let ian mahinmi go and i think he would be a respectable backup for millsapp

Or Try to buy someone’s young Sg with that TE…They can also start Hayward at 2g…and just get a Sf/Pf type to back up AK and Milsap…time get creative…You have to try to Buy Buy Buy Someone’s head case…JR Smith Jazz Fans…??? Maybe some think Like Koufas/Miles and Cash for JR Smith…Save the TE and go for a Sf/Pf to back up Paul and AK….

Good choices. Roger Mason Jr., Marquis Daniels, Larry Hughes, Ronald Murray are all good choices. I also like Luis Amundson as a backup to Millsap, he is very respectable because of his role in Pheonix, and he also played with Utah earlier, so he would be a very good pickup.

I also recently thought a great trade that might save us a little bit of money, find a replacement for Matthews, and still give us the option of using the trade exception on a Backup 4 like Amundson. Kosta Koufos and a 2011 1st round draft pick(lottery pick from Memphis, or mid 20’s pick either one is fine) to the Blazers for Rudy Fernandez.
In this deal both teams win, Matthews has a better role as a backup to Roy or Batum, and Fernandez who has been rumored as on the trade block, would be a suitable replacement for Matthews, also he would help develop Hayward as they are both somewhat the same kind of player.

Marquis Daniels was a important role player for the Mavs a few years ago..And folks seem to forget that 2 years ag he was the Pacers 2nd leading scorer at 13 points a game..

Larry Hughes has been a solid pro..Even though he had the talent to be so much more..

Flip Murray..Has provided instant offense ..Where ever he’s played..

Utah needs someone in the 6’5 ,6’6 or 6’7 range that can guard players like Kobe,Brandon Roy,Manu or Tyreke..So D-Will wont have to… D-Will said he hated seeing his friend Brewer leave after he was traded to Memphis..Maybe you can put a word in to try to get him back…
