Who are your top 5 teams who everyone is already putting into the playoffs, but you think could end up missing the playoffs and picking in the lottery?

    1. Boston (age)
    2. Orlando (Howard leaves)
    3. Portland (gut feeling)
    4. Atlanta (gut feeling)
    5. New Orleans (CP3 leaves)

I’m not saying I think all five of them will miss the playoffs, but I bet two or three of them wiill.

I swear people with negative overall scores should not be able to create threads. Portland Just added Felton at point, Atlanta and Orlando will be ok, and so will Boston.

Looking at the East there is no way Atlanta or Boston miss the playoffs and I think Orlando still make the playoffs unless Howard is traded before or early in the season. Portland dealt with alot of injuries last year and still managed to put together a decent season so i can’t see them missing the playoffs and even if CP3 isn’t traded by the deadline i wouldn’t be surprised if New Orleans missed they playoffs because i expect teams like the Clippers, Kings, Rockets and Warriors to challenge for that 8th spot.

How can u make a post about playoff contenders becoming lottery teams off of gut feelings? Their is a reason for all things and "Gut Feeling" has to be the worst of them all. Do some homework and get some facts together, its a waste to post something for the sake of posting something. The negatives shall rain my friend.

I could see the Hornets missing the playoffs, actually I think they will miss the postseason in favor of LAC or SAC. Maybe Houston too

I think Philly can miss it.  Especially if they trade Iggy.  The Hornets can also miss it if they trade Chris Paul or even if they keep him and he has no help.  I could see Orlando slipping if they trade Howard but that obviously might not happen.  Even if they do trade him for something like a package including Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom I still think that the Magic would make the playoffs.

In the East I see the Pacers getting better so I think the 8th seed will be between Philly and Milwaukee.  I think it will come down to which team plays better defense, and that might be the Bucks next year.  The Bucks now have Stephen Jackson and that guy is sneaky.  He has helped get some mediocre teams into the playoffs (the Cinderella Warriors, the Bobcats) and put a Spurs title team over the top.  Bogut, Jennings, and Jackson is a pretty tough trio with some decent guys around them.  I think Udrih helps a little bit as a backup point guard.

Out West, Denver is up in the air.  Obviously, if they don’t resign Nene and lose Aflalo or JR Smith (or both) then I think they could be in trouble.

Your gut feeling might just be because you are full of $hit.

LOL, just kidding man, but this post was pretty lame. I would be surprised if more than one of those teams finishes in the lottery. But, it was such a perfect set up, I had to take it.

If you replace Dwight with let’s say Nazr Mohammed, that team still wins 35-40 games, and in the east, that is enough. And I garentee you that Orlando will get more than Nazr Mohammed for Dwight.(Well, at least next season)

The older you are the smarter you are, plus Boston still has young talent, like Rondo, Glen Davis, Jeff Green, a potential Avery Bradley, they will be fine. Atlanta has a good team, young ones and vets, they will make it, Portland will make it, Aldridge is emerging as an All-Star, with Felton, and Wes Matthews, and The Hornets will be good too, when you have a top 3 PG in the league who has an all around game, you will win.

Portland only made the playoffs by two games last year. They had 48 wins. The No. 8 seed Memphis had 46 wins. The Clippers are going to be much, much better with Griffin and Gordon growing together, as well as the improved play of DeAndre Jordan.

Utah will also be much better, with another year of improvement for Derrick Favors and Gordon Hayward, and depth in the post with Millsap and Jefferson starting, but Enes Kanter in the mix as well.

Houston is really deep and up-and-coming as well. Golden State might play some defense with Mark Jackson on the bench. Saying Portland might not make the playoffs isn’t as big of a stretch as all of you are making it sound. Oh, they got Raymond Felton?! Oh, you might as well put them down right now! Raymond Felton is not one of the top 10 or 12 point guards in the NBA. Brandon Roy will never be the same again. Batum can’t score. Oden will never be healthy. They have LaMarcus Aldridge. Yay. They’re not guaranteed anything next year.

When Chris Paul and Dwight Howard leave, New Orleans and Orlando will be awful. They will be among the WORST TEAMS IN THE LEAGUE. Not only will be they be in the lottery, they will be in the top of the lottery.

Boston’s run is just about over. Ray Allen is a free agent. Kevin Garnett is going to be in his 17TH YEAR. You cannot do this effectively forever. Is it going out on a little bit of a limb to say they might miss the playoffs? Sure, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

Atlanta only won 44 games last year. It’s not like they’re a dominant regime or anything. Jamal Crawford is a free agent, Josh Smith has worn out his welcome there with his pathetic shot selection, and Joe Johnson had the worst year of his career after signing a massive contract. Guess what? They could definitely only win 30 games.

Plus, Washington will be much better in the East with John Wall and another year for McGee and Jordan Crawford. New Jersey will have a full year of having one of the top two or three PGs in the entire league. Atlanta isn’t guaranteed anything.

Even if Dwight leaves mid-season, they’ll have 30-35 wins by the break.  You can get into the playoffs in the East with 35-40 wins.

a surprise team imo would be a team that has one very talented player and the talent drops off very fast after him.  D Rose is fearless with his body when he goes to the rim.  I could see a hard foul causing him an injury and thus the Bulls end up out of the playoffs.
