I think this year has really shaken up some lists of the best players in the NBA. So who do you guys think are the top 5 players in the NBA in order?

    1. Lebron James

    2. Dwyane Wade

    3. Kevin Durant

    4. Derrick Rose

    5. Dwight Howard

To me Rose can Move Up as high as two on this list Depends on what he does in the Miami series.

Kevin Durant could also move up depending on what he does the rest of the playoffs.

Kobe falls out of the top five which is a shocker because he just didnt get it done this year. (He needed to take over games like the Kobe of four years ago.

    5. Derrick Rose

If Kevin Durant has a great game 7 against the Grizzlies and just dominates in the conference Finals then he could move up to #4 but right now he just misses the top 5. Dirk would need to do the same. These two are basically interchangeable at #6 and #7. Rose could move up to 3 but he needs to first dominate the Heat before that happens.

I really think the Conference Finals will settle this a little more and Kobe or Dwight Howard or both might just be left out of the final top 5 for this year (if that’s what you want to call it). This might be a real shocker and hopefully motivates the two to really step up their game unless Kobe is just ready to retire and is really hurt so he just can’t carry the load anymore as he used to with his legs just about shot and injuries to his hand being too demanding.

    1. Lebron (seems to be unanimous)
    2. Wade
    3. Rose
    4. Dwight… Hands down best big in the game
    5. Durant
Look for Kobe to get back in this next with a little extra time to nurse those nagging knees/ankles… Plus you know he’s sick of people saying he’s finished. Dirk also slightly outside my list.

If you go with one player from each position, it’d probably be…

    Derrick Rose

    Kobe Bryant

    LeBron James

    Dirk Nowitzki

    Dwight Howard

    Now, if not…

    Derrick Rose

    Kobe Bryant

    Dwayne Wade

    LeBron James

    Dwight Howard

    1. Dwayne Wade – yes Lebron is a better regular season player with better numbers, but in the playoffs, in the games when it really count, with the tight defense, you can see D-Wade is the better player, much more harder stop for the defense, more quick and masterful and can do much more damage for the opposite team, for example look at game 5 of Miami-Boston, Wade and Lebron had about the same numbers, but it was clearly that Wade was the main reason for Heat to win the game, he maid baskets, winnings plays in the peak of the battle, his play was much more meaningful, he wore out the Celtics, Lebron play was less meaningful for the heat win, much of his plays was at the end, when Boston defense were exhausted thanks to Wade.

    2. Dwight Howard/Chris Paul

    4.Lebron James

    5.Kobe Bryant

Always thought Stat and Dirk were better, I think LA’s system made him a lot better then he actually is. Think about it what was your opinion of him in memphis in his prime? Not what it is in LA. If Dirk was a Laker he’d b econsidered a top 3 PF ever.

LA players get more recognition then the average player for better or worse. Kwame wasnt a complete mess like some believe, he’s a average role player just not a star like LA wanted. Farmar was considered a super good backup PG but not anymore, Pau in Memphis was just a solid all occasional all star who was soft. In LA he became a superstar skilled big.

It was a lot easier in the 80’s and 90’s when there was Michael and then three or four other really dominant personalities. It’s kind of a little muddier now. #5 or #6 can often appear like #1. It ends up being closely interechangeable, that’s why I don’t think anywhere here can be exactly right or very wrong. The first few I dislike as personalities but, still have to give them their due:

    1. Lebron by a hair, just because he’s hitting his prime, but I wish he’d work harder on his shooting so this would be an easier choice. He is by far the craziest athlete in terms of what he does at his size.

    2. Kobe still can take over sometimes, but it is on the decline, and was dealing with some major team chem issues as well as playing hurt. When he’s on though there is no one as close to MJ and no one works as hard at improving their game.

    3. D-Wade- he just has that instinct to turn it up a notch and play bigger than his size, and make huge plays, also he’s in his prime.

    4. Chris Paul- every year he leads a terrible team to a good record, it reminds me of Garnett when he was in Minni playing on all those terrible teams there. He’s in his prime, and Steve Nash won two MVP’s playing similiar ball with worse D. He is the best pure PG in the league and intangible wise he’s very inspirational.

5/6. Kevin Durant/ Derrick Rose, these guys are on the rise, they are capable of rising up through this spot and next year they pass everyone, but they have holes in their game. Rose needs to involve teammates better and become a more complete passer, and more consistently use his jumper. Durant could bulk up 5 or 10 lbs and add some post work to complete him as a player, also his shot selection is still improving. Their both young and their clutch defense, and decision making are improving too.

I saw a lot of people had Dwight and Dirk in their top 5, would argue Dirk’s lack of D, and Dwight’s lack of progression on his offensive game hurt them in this conversation, is Dwight the best big man in the league now…yes, but for how long? Because he doesn’t seem like he wants to be at times. He needs to improve his shooting both from the stripe and 15 ft and in, and he still has very few go to offensive moves. I don’t think he is the best defensive player in the league (he is a game changer with his freakish athleticism) , and would argue that the first 3 are better defensive players who can also guard more positions.

Sadly Kobe’s body got too run down and beat up this year for him to be in the top five anymore. Next playoffs he will be another year older and time will take just a little more of that speed away. We’ve seen the best of Kobe. He can’t get in the gym and work harder and get back. He has already done all the work and gotten everything out of his body that he can. Kobe at his best was better than any currently playing guy, but those days are over. If you are talking about who is "great" in terms of career, he is at the top. But if you are just talking about winning a 7 game series right now, then he isn’t in the top five and I don’t think he will be next year even if he avoids injury all next season.

    2. Dwight Howard-He’s been a beast this year

    3. Dwyane Wade

    4. Derrick Rose- It’s getting real close between him and Dwade

    5. Dirk Nowitzki- Clutch and can shoot over anybody, look at the roster and don’t tell me it wouldn’t be impressive if he won a championship this year
