I did a blog post on my top 5 candidates for National Player of the Year and I was wondering if you guys would be willing to check it out and leave feedback. Let me know what you guys think of the list! Thanks!
I like your take on CJ and the Orange. He has to be a consistent scorer for them and they need the Freshman PG to play well. They are so very thin at PG.
Good write up! I do think that Payne has a chance. He can play and MSU is always solid. Doug McDermott is another good choice but it might go to a team with a higher profile instead.
Russ Smith is a sleeper. I agree with that. He is a good player who should be able to get stats for the defending champs. I also like Josh Hancock as a deep sleeper. He can shoot, score, and pass. He won MVP of the Final Four but he might not put up enough stats next year. But, he can really play.
I think Mitch McGary has a chance too. He's a talented big man who seems like a good leader and he can score and rebound. Look for Michigan to have a strong season next year too.
I wouldn't even rule out the enigmatic James McAdoo. He has talent and a high profile, and if he gets it together he could reestablish himself as a top 5 pick.
If any freshman gets it, I would pick Jabari Parker. He sounds more polished and he is going to play for Coach K at Duke. He might be more consistent than Wiggins or Randle.
I think Adreian Payne is going to have an uphill battle for the award. He averaged only 10.5 PPG, 7.6 RPG and 1.3 BPG and was inconsistent last year as a 21/22 year old sophomore. Unless he improved massively in the off-season I don't see him overtaking him own teammates as an NPOY candidate.
I think Mitch McGary might be able to emerge as a darkhorse if last years tournament was any indication.
I also think Memphis's Joe Jackson could be a darkhorse as well.
That would be LUKE Hancock. Sorry.
i would personally go:
5- jabari parker - he will be an all around player and leader for a top 7 squad
4 - willie caullie-stein - the leader of a top 3 squad. could be a fr from team here but i'll go hungry center.
3 - gary harris - i say michigan state wins big ten and he's the biggest reason
2 - andrew wiggins - enough said
1 - doug mcdermott - totally in agreement here.
the best players to me this year are mainly underclassmen.
i like your list a lot though. everything you said were valid points for why or why not. if anyone i would put from your list on to mine, it would be marcus smart. i'm also a fan of adrein payne's, just believe gary harris is the man and will be the alpha to.
Nice. I gave you a follow on WordPress 8)
I'd be careful about posting pictures on blogs without attribution though, but there are a few occasions where I couldn't help it either. YouTube videos, especially for a post like yours where highlight reels could help make your case for who's a player of the year candidate, are a safer bet.
Regardless, I liked your post. Just giving you a heads up since copyright infringement is a huge pain.
Oh thanks man I didn't know that copyright would be such a big deal. But I'll try to stick to videos from now on. Thanks for the follow by the way!
People are sleeping on Jahii Carson. Dude averaged about 18 points, 6 assists, and around 1.5 steals his freshman year. If he can improve his jumper this guy will be scary good. He's my darkhorse for POY
Spencer Dinwiddie from Colorado. Great all around game and Colorado will have a good season in the PAC-12.
Julius Randle. There is no other player in college who combines his size skill motor athletic ability and ball handling at his position. Not many PF in the NBA combine all that
