Mad MaxParticipantEvery year ESPNranks the nba players, I think they’re down to the top 10, I forget the specifics of who’s ranked where and what not, but I would curious to see what people think are the 25 best players in the NBA today, not an achievement award. I’ll put my neck out there and list mine, granted without doing any real research, just off the top of my head but still, here goes nothing.
1. L. James
2. K. Durant
3. A. Davis
4. S. Curry
5. R. Westbrook
6. C. Paul
7. B. Griffin
8. J. Harden

SubZeroParticipantDefinitely have my disagreements, but not like anything on your list is crazy. Biggest thing I disagree with though is Cousins being that low. He’s top 15 for me

trelos6ParticipantI think it’s horrendus that Carmelo is not Top 15. He can light it up better than Lillard et al.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantThis is all extremely subjective but I think Leonard at 9 is too high as is kyrie at 13. Cousins at 20 is way too low. And I wouldn’t put pao in the top 25 as of right now.

tuck243ParticipantKyrie doesn’t play any defense as well… Lillard is a complete victim too… Let’s see how far each got without another top 25 player on their teams? Irving was competing for #1 pick on a yearly basis in the East and we’ll see what Lillard does… This isn’t a shot at them because both are great players, it just grinds my gears when the requirements for one player isn’t the same as the other.

xJumpManxParticipantIrving imprioved leaps and bounds last year on defense. I wih he would not have got hurt in the finals if not for anythign more than to get rid of that stigma he would have made life miserable for Curry. In the game he played that he got hurt he stole the ball how m,any times from the fake MVP.

TarHeelRavenParticipantJust my opinion, but Anthony Davis should be number one. Lebron James is an all-time great and has multiple rings, but he is on the downside of his career. Kevin Durant will be an all-time great. I just think with Davis’ package of length, speed, athleticism, quickness, shooting, defense and rebounding, he is the best player in th NBA. If I was starting an NBA franchise NOW, I’d pick him.

tuck243ParticipantThis is current day rankings. The Pelicans got swept in the only playoffs Anthony Davis played in. With everything you said about him and he couldn’t win one game? You see what LeBron did without a quarter of what A. Davis had vs Golden State. What sense does it make that Anthony Davis should be #1 over Bron? You kidding me?

WinterSoldierParticipantI based this list on last years PER plus youth and development. I don’t think PER is the absolute best indicator of rank but it does give a more analytical view than just plain human bias.
1. Lebron
2. Durant
3. Davis
4. Curry
5. Harden
6. Westbrook
7. Paul
8. Griffin
9. Cousins
10. Aldridge
11. Leonard

13. M. Gasol
14. Irving
15. Anthony
16. Love
17. Lillard
18. Butler
19. Thompson
20. Favors
21. Gobert
22. Drummond
23. Vucevic

mcgee555ParticipantAs much of a fan I am for PER, I don’t think there is any reasonable way to claim John Wall is not a top 25 player. He just does too many different things that PER overlooks and undervalues to leave him off this list.

WinterSoldierParticipantI agree with you I was really tempted to put him on the list anyway. There are some players that don’t show up on analytics but are still impact players.

Memphis MadnessParticipantI would have a top 3 of Westbrook, Curry, and Anthony Davis. Slightly behind that would be LeBron due to his extensive wear and tear. Rounding out my top 5 is James Harden.
Chris Paul has number 6 overall on lockdown.
From there I like box score Cousins (if not real world Cousins), John Wall, and some others. Kevin Durant is a guy who I think will bounce back, but maybe not all the way.
Durant at 9 might seem low but I kind of like Russell Westbrook more as the top dog. Westy has more of an alpha dog, agressive mentality and a higher motor. That then makes Kevin Durant possibly the best (scoring) second option in NBA history.
Blake Griffin is just really, really solid with occassional bouts of creative genius and excitement. He might even be the second best big man in the NBA.
Who is the 11th best guy in the league? Not sure. I do know that I LOVE Klay Thompson’s skill set. Heck of a shooter. One of the best pure shooters who is also a VOLUME shooter (he and Steph form the best Pure/Volume Shooting combo in NBA history). Then he can score too. He is also a solid two way 2 guard with good height and length.
Marc Gasol at 12. Best third option in the league. Even if he is nominally the first option on the Grizzlies. He can do lots of things well. Not phenomenally great at any one thing though. A great passing big. But, you kinda want your 7 foot franchise max contract guy down on the low blocks posting up and grabbing 12 boards a game with some highlight reel nosebleed block shots a game. But, that’s not Marc.
Kawhi Leonard at 13. Basically a Scottie Pippen type without the dribbling/passing skills. He can score, board, and defend. Plus, he can guard pretty much every top player in the league except for maybe D. Cousins. Not sure he has played Anthony Davis straight up yet, but I bet he could do ok. Leonard is long, smart, athletic, and wiry strong.
At 14 and 15: Jimmy Butler and Damian Lillard — the best of the rest.
Runners up: Carmelo, Bosh, Kobe, Kyle Lowry, Rudy Gobert, and some others.
