Top 10 Payton to Kemp Alley-oops: The Original Lob City?

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/09/07/gary-payton-takes-his-era-of-point-guards-over-todays-calls-him-and-shawn-kemp-the-original-lob-city/

Payton called his connections with Kemp, "the original lob city". Hard not to agree, they had some monsters. Well deserved enshrinement into the HOF for the Glove, here are some big lobs to the Reign man.

damn

Shawn Kemp is a powerful dunker. The intensity on his dunks can almost break a back board.

The Blueprint

Payton to Kemp was a staple in my teenage years. Gary made throwing that lob to Shawn look pretty and stylish. Only time GP looked like he was having as much fun throwing that lob was when he played with Vince in the 2000 Olympics. No matter how many get thrown in L.A., the GP to Kemp combo did it look the best.

I don't know if LOB CITY does

I don't know if LOB CITY does Payton/Kemp enough justice. There will be only one Payton/Kemp combo. Just like there is only one HUMAN HIGHLIGHT FILM. Or, one VINSANITY. Payton to Kemp was epic and there will be only one of them.

Chris Paul to Blake Griffin is nice too, but so was Baron Davis to Blake (perhaps even better).

Maybe we can give the LOB CITY moniker to Payton/Kemp and retire that name.

The Clippers duo is basically just about Blake so we should call it THE BLAKE SHOW. Chris Paul Ball is not very similar to Blake's game. However, Shawn Kemp and Gary Payton complemented each other very well. Those two guys needed each other and gave those Sonics team an identity.

Back then, Shawn Kemp had the IDEAL lob city partner in Gary Payton, a frenetic, athletic, trash talking all-star point guard who went all out and who liked to run. I think in today's league, Blake Griffin would be paired better with a creative, pass-first guard like Ricky Rubio.

Have you ever seen Chris Paul

Have you ever seen Chris Paul play??

I mean Payton might be the best defender at his position ever but Chris Paul isn't really 2nd fidle to Blake. At least Kemp played defendse and unless Blake shows improvement on both ends of the floor CP3 is >> to Blake.

^^^^ I have seen Chris Paul

^^^^

I have seen Chris Paul play. Even saw games 1 and 2 of 2012's series where the Clippers beat us. He is the closest thing to Isiah Thomas today. He can score, pass, shoot, and get steals at the point guard spot. Great talent. BUT he might not be the best point guard to run lob city for Blake Griffin, just as Isiah Thomas and Shawn Kemp might not have been as much fun to watch as Payton and Kemp. Both Payton and Kemp were young, athletic, and loved to run. Same styles. Chris Paul is more like Isiah Thomas, a veteran head-strong point guard who likes to score and likes to walk the ball up the court just as much as he likes to run.

Rubio might be a better LOB CITY guy to play with Blake Griffin. Rubio is young, long, and loves to run. Chris Paul seems abrasive at times (almost like Kobe) where Ricky Rubio does not.

Kemp and Payton brought out the best in each other. I don't think Chris Paul brings out the best in Blake Griffin. Griffin had better highlights AND STATS as a rookie.
