Tony Wroten was my favorite player coming out of the 2011 high school class. He’s always had the talent to be a great player. But after declaring for the draft after a somewhat disappointing season at Washington, many people started doubting him due to his turnover issues and poor shooting. I just watched some of his NBA footage, and to be honest, I think he will end up being a very good NBA player. He has great vision, he is a great passer, has great size and length, and is extremely athletic. What do you guys think about his potential? He’s also only 19 years old.

Kid got the talent, his sucess will depend on two things for me:
First he needs to train hard and keep getting better especially while he is not getting minutes. He will have to conquer his chance because playing time will be hard for him.
and he will need good coaches to help him make the transition to the nba game because he has to figure his role as an nba player.

I agree with toruk, I think coach and system will play a big part for him.

Good court vision and a passing flair. He is good at getting to the rim.
One of the best slashers on the Grizzlies. I honestly think he just needs
playing time. Great size for a point guard. I like him at the 1 off the bench
with Bayless at the 2. Bayless is not a point guard.

Wrotten needs to get some defensive tutoring from Tony Allen. I can see him being
an effective defensive minded, pass- first point guard.

Now with Rudy Gay gone, the Grizzlies don’t have a bunch of offensive creators. Hopefully
Wroten will fill some of that void. He will be a key to Grit and Grind 2.0 down the road.

I dont think he had a disappointing year at Washington. He had some big games against quality opponents and if i recall correctly, he was 1st team all Pac 12 and a freshman of the year finalist. If you followed him, you already knew his shooting and turnovers could be a problem. His potential is unlimited, where he ends up, I have no clue. Great 6th man at least

Like a lot of players Wroten is young and I think if Memphis brings him along slowly every thing will work out. I know us fan love that players we like get minutes but most of the time with young player, they need time to grow. Look at how Lance Stephenson is playing for Indiana. Look at Paul George. George was the 3rd or 4th option a year ago.

Yea he has the talent to be a great PG in the league, but does he have the drive? Will he be able to tone his game down so that he can fit into a system? I really hope so, because the guy has just about every raw tool u look for in a prospect. He mad a mistake coming out after his freshman year, especially with how weak this upcoming draft is, he could have been a top 10 pick this year.

However, he seems to be a really competitive kid who will work hard to tap into his potential. The guy has the potential to be a starting point guard in the NBA, but he really needs to work on his entire game to get there. Playing under control, becoming a better shooter, learning the concept of NBA defense, etc…

I dont understand how he fell so hard. I for one said I would take him over rivers, (dont believe me pull the threads up)
He was a trucker in college who would slash at will. Nobody could keep him away from the lane because of handles.
He could make extremely tough plays and but failed in the easy ones.

Same thing is gonna happen with Lorenzo Brown and Archie Goodwin, they will probably drop and end up steals.

You touched on the reason why he fell. Wroten is clueless about making simple plays. He has all the physical tools and none of the mental ones needed to play the position that he’s touted to play.
His decision making was awful at UW.

Wroten will never be a PG in the traditional sense because he is unable to manage a game. When people on this site call him a great passer, they are only half right. He has the capability to make quick passes through tight holes… which can be seen in his HS and some college footage.

But does he know when to make the pass, in a second can he discern what player has a higher percentage shot opportunity??? Tony has no clue and I’m not sure if you’re able to develop that kind of thing. And in the end, does it matter how quick you can whip the ball if it’s the wrong pass…..
Same thing with NFL QBs, Jamarcus Russell can let it fly but he wasn’t a good QB.
