Tony Parker likely to miss 4 weeks with a Grade 2 left ankle sprain

San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker is expected to miss approximately four weeks with a Grade 2 left ankle sprain, the team announced Saturday.

Parker underwent an MRI that confirmed the injury.

Parker, who closed out February averaging 26.1 points and 8.3 assists and shooting 54 percent from the field, was injured in the third quarter of Friday's game against the Sacramento Kings as he drove down the lane for a scooping layup. As he twisted his body in midair to shield off Isaiah Thomas, who was defending on the play, Parker came down on his left ankle and rolled it outward.

He dropped to the ground grabbing the ankle while play continued at the other end of the court. He was eventually helped off the court, headed straight to the locker room and he did not return.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich acknowledged after Friday's game that Parker would be "out a while."

Parker is the catalyst for the Spurs (46-14), who own the NBA's best record, averaging team highs of 21 points per game and 7.8 assists.

Too bad for a player who was playing as well as anyone in the NBA not named LeBron or Durant. Huge opportunity for the Heat, Thunder or Clippers to claim the leagues best record and home court advantage over arguably the best home team in the league this season in the Spurs. At least it is not something more serious, plus the Spurs should remain competitive, just never want injuries when your chemistry is on the level of the Spurs. Some may argue that it will give others an opportunity and that Tony knows the system, guess we will see when he hopefully comes back a few weeks before the play-offs.

Dam.... Dude has been ballin

Dam.... Dude has been ballin lately..I thought he was 3rd in the MVP Race behind only Lebron and Durant.....I'm interested to see how the Spurs react without him for a month......

Even though he has several championship rings and multiple all star appearances..Parker is still the most underrated player in the nba...

Most likely Patty Mills would

Most likely Patty Mills would start, at least Mills would get his break, he is a score first guard which can shoot threes, i'm curious on how coach pop will do the rotation,

Damn Mikey, I thought u were talking about the fat kid from UCLA

I thought you were talking about that fat kid from UCLA. The Spurs are playing so well and its to late to make a deal for a better back up because De Colo is not going to get it done. Hopefully he heals quick and they can make a run because they play basketball the way its supposed to be played.

He'll basically miss the

He'll basically miss the entire month of March.

They have tough games vs OKC, GSW, LAC, DEN and MIA this month, but they're all on their home court. 11/13 games this month are at home.

I still think they end up winning the West and having the best record in the NBA.
