If he leaves school this year, he will explode in draft workouts and be a top 10 guy.

The best teams he has played were Middle Tennessee State, Denver, and LSU. He is a Big XII recruit in the Sun Belt. He should have nice numbers, but that doesn’t mean he is ready for the NBA much less help a lottery team.

Hassan Whiteside put up moster numbers in a terrible conference too, Mitchell is talented, but that doesn’t mean he’ll go top 10 or 1st round even.

Let me clarify, there are tons of mid-major players that deserve recognition and have the talent to play in the NBA.  That being said, many of those guys have played against other prospects in non-conference play and have been tested better, or are leading their teams to conference championships. 16 wins in the Sun Belt won’t even get them into the NIT so again, he will have no chance to match up against higher quality players this year.

Mitchell is a talented guy, but he’s played no one.  You look at his numbers, but he’s playing on the 4th best team in the Sun Belt and has never matched up against any 1st round prospect.  I’m not saying the guy can’t play in the league, but I’m saying the guy is not going top 10 this year if he goes out.

Tony Mitchell is one of the freakiest athletes in the draft. He’s a bit of a tweener, but I think he has the physicality to play the 4 at the next level. He plays in a weak conference so he’s able to put up some eye-popping stats. He’s raw, but one surprising thing about him this yr is his improved shooting. On about 2 attempts per game, he’s shooting 43% from 3. Low volume but it does show promise since he’s a relatively raw player. Like i said though, if he declares and goes through the process, I think he’ll be a high pick.

Okay, I’m a student at UNT, so I’ll give you my take, as unbiased as I can possibly be. He’s 6’9 with a 7’5 wingspan. Offensively, he plays the 5 for us, so it’s tough to judge his game, because he’ll be more of a SF or PF at the next level. Our next 2 best players were declared ineligible at the semester, so the team around him isn’t nearly as good as it should be. Every single time he catches the ball in the post, he’s double-teamed, and sometimes even triple teamed. This is why he doesn’t average very many shots. He’s very unselfish, sometimes almost too much so. His passing instincts are great for a guy his size, but sometimes he turns the ball over trying to make the flashy pass. His shot is very good, with a pretty quick release, and range out to the 3 point line. He doesn’t take ANY bad shots. I wish he were more agressive on offense, and looked for his own shot more, but I guess you can’t really gripe for a guy not taking bad shots. His handle is okay, but it must improve. That being said, we haven’t seen much of it yet, because he spends the majority of the time in the post. He’s a phenomenal rebounder due to his length and athleticism. He’s one of the best athletes in the country. He jumps out of the gym, and runs the floor exceptionally well. He’s quick off the floor. Defensively, this guy is a monster. He’s a great help defender, and very good man to man. He can guard guys on the perimeter with ease. His only problem defensively is that he is prone to pick up STUPID fouls. He’s gotten a lot better at that as the year has gone on, but he still does it on occasion. He’s a little raw, but the talent is there. He’ll tear apart the combine, and his stock will skyrocket. If he comes out, he’ll be a top 15 pick. Sam Presti was at one of our games, and some of the scouts compared his athleticism to Blake Griffin and Dominique Wilkins. I mean, that’s high praise. This is in an ESPNDallas article if you wanna go look it up. If you have any more question, ask away, and I’ll do my best to answer.
