I don't think anyone has mentioned this, let me know if they have.
Tony Allen re-signed with the Grizz for 4 years $20 million.
Pretty good value for an All-NBA 1st team defender.
I am really beginning to like this Memphis roster. Really solid defensive unit.
First time I have seen this here. It's on the Grizz board and it looks like it is a back loaded deal.
Solid money for him but the Grizz need him. I bet we gave him more years than other teams.
He is vital to there team, I can see Memphis (much like Indiana) in need of some outside shooting to bolster the roster. 3 point shooting is becoming more and more important in today's game.
They could certainly add some more shooting because Tony Allen and Tayshaun are great wings defensively they aren't the most consistent offensive players. The Grizz can get away with below average shooting on the wings because they are so good inside and have one of the quickest point guards in the game...but to take the next step to title contenders I think they need to add a deadeye shooter. If I were them I would offer the MLE to one of the remaining free agent shooters like Belinelli or even Nick Young.
Allen is certainly one of the elite perimeter defenders in the game so bringing him back at 5 million a season is a good deal even with his offensive limitations.
I think he's (along with Gasol and Z-Bo) fairly integral to their teams defence-first, blue-collar identity so he's worth the money. They do need some better bench production than Bayless and Pontdexter though, how's there cap looking now?
They are over the cap as we speak. They are paying Randolph 18 million, Gasol 15 million, Conley 8, Tayshaun 7, Tony 5, Davis 3, Bayless, 3, Koufos 3, Poindexter 2, Wroten and Greene each a million. With the salary cap at 58.5 million for 2014 they are at almost 66 million after signing Allen.
Pretty good value for the guy who led all players will 1st-place votes for dpoy
The thing with defensive wing players is that you always have the feeling that he can be easily replaced by someone else....
Allen gave that team an identity....Before he came they were 1 of the worst defensive teams in the nba...But they still have to address their lack of perimeter shooting if they want to be title contenders.....Allen has given rookie Jamaal Franklin the nickname ''The Grindson'''....
Imagine if he didn't get hurt. I watched that game when it did happen, he was going to go for 40 points.
Allen is certainly a defensive help to a team like Memphis, but in the last year or 2 I've seen him step up his offensive game a lot too. Granted it's not with 3-point shooting which he's needs to become a star player but it's a help to have a big defensive help and a good offensive help too. Also Memphis needs this kind of player.
