Mr.Knick 32ParticipantI have been back and forth on this guy. When he first came out, I thought ” 2nd rounder at best” and I believed he wasn’t gonna be a solid NBA prospect. I watched tape on him during the 2nd half of his freshman year, he was clearly 325-330 lbs. I was shocked to see him getting alot of PT. Since Jan 1st, he only had 3 games where he played less then 20 min.
That combined with what I saw made me like him. I think Gallon’s weight will be a concern. He must drop down into the 275-280 range. I think if he could drop down, he could be a better overall player then Glen “Big Baby” Davis. At best, Gallon could start like 10-15 games and play like 20-25 min off the bench.
Thoughts?

the I in winParticipantI’m high on him. He has perimeter skill but still a power game, will never be confused for being soft. He weighs a lot but not all of that is fat, quite a bit of it is muscle. Also even though he is a bit fat he is still relativaly quick and athletic. If he lost 25-40 pounds before next season I think he would be a real force his rookie year.

JNixonParticipantNeeds to get a skill to hang his hat on. Has a raw but decent post game, and probably won’t be able to play strictly down low in the NBA at his height. He needs to develop a consistent mid-range shot like Big Baby did. Always good to have a 15 footer in your arsenal as an undersized PF.
Also needs to show more effort on D, become more unselfish, and GET IN SHAPE. I think he’s going to have to spend time in the D-League if a team gives him a chance, but I have my doubts about whether he sticks on an NBA roster. He reminds me of Jackie Butler.

MagikKnickParticipantYeah, if he could drop a good 10-20 lbs, he’d be really good, but he doesnt exactly NEED to
Even though he weighs so much, hes not your typical “fat player”, hes more agile, quick, and athletic, so as long as he doesn’t lose his ability to move, he’ll be fine..and I can see him fitting in a Big Baby role also, big guy off the bench to provide some spark mainly on the offense end of the court

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantPlus, he could pass. I think he’s becoming my Knick pick at 40. He’s become one of those gems I see in this draft. I just question the fit for him in D’Antoni’s system

whyyouhatingParticipantthat is his best skill.
From watching him and seeing some of the works outs on youtube plus what being have been
saying about the workouts. He can shoot it out to NBA and is one of the best big man shooters in the draft.
I could definitely see him doing what Glen Davis is doing as long as he works hard.
He seems to be lazy and he falls in love with the 3 to much.0 - Posted on: Sat, 06/05/2010 - 10:11pm #327727
midwestbbscoutParticipantif he could get down to like 285 he would be sick…..he still gets down with it he just cant stay on the court…..

arc1212Participantthe offensive side of the ball is definitely his strength…he has a very good mid range jumper that even extends to the three point line
his post game could use some work but is not raw by any means…with a solid jump shot like that he can always make something decent happen down there…not to mention he’s a banger
him and tommy mason griffin will both be solid if they don’t get into trouble

if i’m in GA and can see the talent why can’t everyone else?0 - Posted on: Sun, 06/06/2010 - 4:40am #327772
OhCanada-ParticipantIf Gallon could give Whiteside 50 pounds we would have a couple future allstars.

JNixonParticipantI’m also from GA and I know I watch more Big 12 basketball than you. Gallon didn’t have a consistent mid-range game this past season. He was generally only effective in spurts during games. I don’t dispute that Gallon is very talented, but if you think Gallon is an NBA ready player with polish to his game then you’ll see otherwise next season when he’s in the D-League.
Don’t let workouts fool you. They should be taken with a grain of salt, when comparing them to the body of work throughout the season. Jarvis Varnado was knocking down 3’s at some of his workouts as well. Just about every player in the NBA can make open shots in a workout setting

JoeWolf1Gallon still has some work to do, he is big but was absolutely manhandled by Derrick Charachter towards the end of the non-conference play. He has the tools, but like a lot of you say must get in shape and the guy was prone to “disappear” from games, he’d have a big play and stay on the floor for 10 more minutes and you’d forget he was out there. That may be in part to his poor conditioning, but I think he’d get killed on the block trying to guard just about any power forward in the NBA. The D-League is where I see his first year or two as a professional. I also see the fact that he showed up to pre-draft camps overweight as a sign of immaturity and a questionable work ethic, that alone is a huge red flag for someone picking before the 40-45 range.

Counting StarsParticipantI’m kind of thinking Mike Sweetney. Sweets has the skill to play in the NBA, but his conditioning is holding him back. Sweetney plays pretty well in the NBADL, but I think we could see him again if he trims down.
