Hornets Get: Gorgui Dieng + a future 2nd rounder and perhaps cash

Timberwolves Get: Marvin Williams + Dwayne Bacon

I believe this works for both teams because it gives the wolves a floor spacer at the 4 position who can actually at least hold his own on defense (looking at you bjelica) and upside at the guard position while the hornets get younger with Gorgui who probably is at his peak right now as a player but gives the hornets a starting calibre power forward/Centre who can play alongside kaminsky and is additional dwight howard injury insurance.

Seeing as how the wolves are in win now mode and marvin gives them a different player as they have two of the same player already in gibson and dieng

And as the hornets are in limbo where theyre not really rebuilding but are far off from contending and are stuck in the same sort of position as the late/ early 2000/10’s hawks they get the best player in the deal.

I do believe that KAT needs a better player up front next to him that has some real potential. But I don’t think Marvin Williams is that guy. Dieng can still be a good presence. He is not worthless. But the Hornets have plenty of big men so Dieng would just cloud up the front line. If you Kaminsky or Zeller you would be very worried about your position on the team if someone as young as Dieng took over your spot. That can be very damaging to a player’s confidence and career. So I don’t believe this trade helps the Hornets.

Nor does this help the Wolves. I believe KAT’s true position is misrepresented. I think he is really a PF who can play Center at times as well. He has a beautiful jump shot and is faster than most Centers. However his post game isn’t that good. Which is why he is featured at Center in most lineups. I do believe that his post game has improved since he entered the league. When KAT was at his best, he was in College and playing the 4 next to a very defensive young Center WCS. So what Minny needs to find is a Center who is a good defender and has a good post game. That person does not need to have an awesome post game however, but a good post game will suffice. They also need to more importantly be a good defensive presence and protect the rim. So Dieng does fit the defensive part. But ideally I’d like the frontcourt partner for Towns to be a bit taller than 6’11. KAT is even taller than Dieng. So what they need is a Center who is 7 feet or even 7’1 who defend as well as operate in the post.

Why not trade for WCS then? I’m sure you could get him relatively eadily, they have Papa and Skal coming through.

The Hornets have a lot of depth at C so I think Marvin offers more flexability to them as a PF than Dieng might and I don’t see Thibs giving up the younger Dieng for Marvin either.

A big defensive anochor at C and KAT at PF would be a great combo and give T-Wolves a real Twin Towers. The C would just need to be a good defensive anchor as scoring could be done by team mates.

Could Minny become the 3rd team in the Knicks and Rockets Melo trade? They could take back Anderson who would stretch the floor for all the ball dominant players. Yeah, he doesn’t bring a lot of defense so hopefully KAT has stepped up his game on that side of the floor. They could also end up getting some picks and younger low cost players in the deal as well. To match salaries, they would have to give up Dieng and Aldrich/Bjelica (no loss there). Dieng is a good young player compared to Anderson, but Anderson stretches the floor. Also, the newly signed Gibson is a similar player to Dieng so you don’t really need both of them. Anderson does have the bigger contract, but it only has 3 years left on it compared to Dieng’s which is 4 years. With all the other big contracts they now have and will have (Wiggins, KAT), it might be nice to have a contract that will end sooner.
