I’m just saying… what if they went center instead? Lopez was projected to go higher than Westbrook.

They would’ve still had a very high pick. Their need is point guard, so they take the highest rated player at that position in Rubio. They still need shooting, and they could have drafted for it or got it through free agency. Draft would have been more likely since that is how they are building.

After that year, dwight howard has an early termination option, should he decide to test free agency. the thunder currently have 33 million committed for that year, then you add another 7 million for jeff green. now dwight would be signing a contract starting at 18 million. that puts okc at 58 million in committed salaries. which might fit under the cap. or the maths works fine without jeff green, or another of their players.

this would be fine if OKC were a big market team. but with westbrook due for an extension, and Harden, maynor, ibaka and mullens the next year, OKC probably cant afford to go that far into the luxury tax. so then the question becomes, is Howard and 4 minimum guys better then 5 role guys on affordable contracts, given that the team already has a superstar in durant?

And How does the new CBA and possibly shorter contracts affect this? would dwight leave OKC after one contract if he one a ring or 2?
