TC_42ParticipantWith Rubio’s play against the US today, Mr Knick brought up the question of what if the Thunder had taken Rubio over Harden? Shooting might be an issue though:
Rubio – Maynor
Westbrook – Sefolosha
Durant
Green – Ibaka
Aldrich – KrsticBut what if they would’ve taken Brook Lopez over Westbrook the year before, selected Rubio at 3, and made Washington a better offer than Minnesota for the 5th pick and drafted Curry?
Rubio – Maynor
Curry – Sefolosha
Durant
Green – Ibaka
Lopez – AldrichThat would be NASTY.

SubZeroParticipantYou’re making me drool
But there’s no telling if Rubio would come over. If he won’t come to Minnesota, I don’t see why he would come to a small market city like OKC unless he thought he would play a lot and have a chance at a title

GsbeParticipantmaybe if they have selected lopez they could have had a different record the next year and differeent lottery pick in the 2009 draft. so they might not have been able to draft rubio. plus what the thunder had to give to obtain the pick from the wizards?

TC_42ParticipantHilarious jdstorm.
It’s not actually that far-fetched. In 2008, their biggest needs were point guard and center.
I’m just saying… what if they went center instead? Lopez was projected to go higher than Westbrook.
They would’ve still had a very high pick. Their need is point guard, so they take the highest rated player at that position in Rubio. They still need shooting, and they could have drafted for it or got it through free agency. Draft would have been more likely since that is how they are building.

Mr.Knick 32ParticipantThinks for the shoutout man!
I think that team would have shooting issues like you said. However, the Thunder would have been a LONG team. Rubio is 6-5, 6-6 with long arms. Westbrook is 6-4 with long arms, Durant is 6-9 with monster arms and so is Ibaka.
You add a cheap shooter/ 6th man down the line, the Thunder would have been the most exciting team in the NBA to watch.

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantMy biggest worry is that Miami will dominate the next two seasons in the league. Win both championships. Dwight will become convinced that he can’t beat Triami in Orlando and will jump ship to an OKC team that could still have enough room to sign him as a FA.
PG Russell Westbrook
SG Thabo Sefolosha
SF Kevin Durant
PF Jeff Green
C Dwight Howardwith James Harden, Eric Maynor, Serge Ibaka and Cole Aldrich coming off the bench.
Even if they lose a couple of those guys over the next few seasons, a core of Westbrook, Durant, Dwight, Harden and Sefolosha would be one scary lineup…

mbdParticipantThey wont have the cap space to sign Dwight Howard and keep Green or the role players they currently have.
The Thunder Lineup is fine where it is right now0 - Posted on: Sun, 08/22/2010 - 6:34pm #383053

jdstormParticipantif dwight howard wanted to sign with them.
they are currently 5 million under the cap with only 34 million committed for next year,
After that year, dwight howard has an early termination option, should he decide to test free agency. the thunder currently have 33 million committed for that year, then you add another 7 million for jeff green. now dwight would be signing a contract starting at 18 million. that puts okc at 58 million in committed salaries. which might fit under the cap. or the maths works fine without jeff green, or another of their players.this would be fine if OKC were a big market team. but with westbrook due for an extension, and Harden, maynor, ibaka and mullens the next year, OKC probably cant afford to go that far into the luxury tax. so then the question becomes, is Howard and 4 minimum guys better then 5 role guys on affordable contracts, given that the team already has a superstar in durant?
And How does the new CBA and possibly shorter contracts affect this? would dwight leave OKC after one contract if he one a ring or 2?
Also who plays the 5 in crunch time, since howard can’t be counted on for free throws in end game situation. do you take the chance on howard and hope he doesn’t brick away a series like he did against LA , or do you have a lesser player?
@MDB they would have the cap space to sign howard and all their existing players under the current CBA because, they could extend westbrook his qualifing offer, sign Howard. the use westbrook and all their other players bird rights to exceed the cap. the problem is that they dont have enough money to pay 40 million in tax every year. for the years after 2012

HitsterParticipantDwight has a player’s option in 2012 I believe yet all the 2012 FA talk has been about CP3 so far perhaps with his possible linking up with STAT and Mello on the Knicks. But with CP3, Deron Williams and Dwight Howard all having player options in 2012 then lots of teams will be trying to do a Miami and who will be even more so than now one of the top two PG’s and the most dominant big man in the NBA on the same team.
Orlando do have Carter expiring next summer and come 2012 then Rashard Lewis would be going into the last year of his large deal so Otis Smith may have options to add pieces and Orlando are much nearer to winning an NBA title than other teams trying to add top players.
Don’t forget that Andrew Bynum has a team option in 2012 so the Lakers could be in the mix for any of these FA’s via an S and T.

ghettosermonParticipantlol at hypothetical situations. The Hawks would be the best team in the league if they weren’t so crap at drafting. Marvin Williams over Chris Paul and Deron Williams. Jeff Teague over Darren Collison or Roddy B. Acie Law over Thad Young or Rodney Stuckey. Shelden Williams over Brandon Roy and Rudy Gay. Josh Childress over Deng and Igudala. This could have been the Hawks:
PG: Deron Williams/Darren Collison
SG: Brandon Roy/Andre Iguodala
SF: Joe Johnson/Thaddeus Younh
PF: Josh Smith
C: Al Horford0 - Posted on: Mon, 08/23/2010 - 7:40am #383261

JASONS BULLSParticipantHe is the player that does not fit their roster. Aldrich is going to be a defensive player they need that mow post guy who could get some points. I truly thought they should of went after scola from houston when he was a free agent this summer. Good jump shot and even though he is not the big, he has some of the best post moves in the league and gets 9 boards.
