Thoughts on J Cole?
My Favorite Rapper.
1.J. Cole is Real - He doesn't only rap about money cars and &$#%#&@! ( though he does rap about them too) he raps about his life, as a kid growing up, as a rapper from fayetville north carolina, that went to college on a full scholarship to new york to follow his dream. He raps about issues like abortion, kids in the ghetto, dreamers, etc
2.Basketball - He has said multiple times, if he wasn't a rapper he would be a basketball player, if not in the NBA he said he would be one of those guys playing in europe, maybe the d-league still trying to make that nearly impossible dream come true. He makes alot of basketball refernces and allussions, parallells, etc. He compares himself to a Basketball player, being cut the first time, making the team, being given the chance to start and finally star. Thats what his album Cole World: The Sideline Story is. He loves the game of Basketball but loves Rapping More.
"I'm Hoopdreamin, Hanging pictures of my idols,
Jordan was like juses, Slam was like the bible,
I used to read it twice and cut the pictures out,
Had the jordan free throw dunk tongue sticking out"
3.I Can Relate - I think the most important part of being a kid, a person's favorite artist is that person being able to relate. He says what you want to say, He agrees with you, says Keep Ya Head Up when you're going through tough times. Alot of kids when they're feeling down, they put on their headphones. And just listen. And with J. Cole, he's a dreamer, his life was a struggle, he didn't grow up being a gangster but he grew up around it. He had a hoop dream, he has his own opinions, and he through all of it, persevered. Being cut from his basketball team when he thought and belived he deserved to make it, working hard, and finally making the team. Being an underdog. I can relate.
Are not that hot... He made those songs... Dollar and a Dream beat aint hot... I can name only 2 beats that's hot Nice Watch and Work Out... You sound like a hater mane... J. Cole is nice I still feel he got a long way to go... He nice though... I'm high on Big Krit... Kendrick Lamar? Na, dude been out for a while now and to be honest he's trash...
Slaughter House has seen A LOT of pub lately since they murdered that cypher... I'm a big Mouse fan, so its definitely good to see him gettin the love he deserves...
We have a very big difference of opinion if you think Lamar is trash. Lyrically he's amazing, he has a unique flow and uses beats others in the industry wouldn't dare touch. Section .80 is a classic already IMO.
I dunno if you can associate the word trash with Kendrick Lamar. I'll admit, I haven't heard all of his tracks but I know he has one of the best flows in the game. He also has a great message behind the tracks I've listened to. I bump this track daily
He'll turn out like every other rapper
- He is really secrative and has some underground tunes
- Gets some exposure and little by little people start noticing him
- He has a couple of tracks that catch people's attention
- All these hipsters are going to be like, "We heard of him first and you bit**** just heard him cause of us"
- He is going to catch the radio by storm with one or two of his songs
- All these basic bitc**** are going to be all over his nuts and his music is going to be overplayed
- Then he'll become a sell out like Drizzy Drake, Lil Wayne (worst rapper of all time btw) and just look his passion for the game and rap about nonesense that the majority of society can relate too (ex: Lil Wayne's - How to Love and Wiz Khalifa - I Roll Up)
- Then all these little kids are going to get on the songs and sing along to them not knowing what they mean and you're going to be like "oh my gahhh, people still listen to this and then you're going to find a new rapper to like....
It's a vicious cycle... I know.

Just hear me out...Section .80 at the minimum is a must buy for any real hiphop fan.
It just is a perfect fit for my taste.
I hate you - Kendrick Lamar is a pretty good track too.
J cole is the truth raps about real &$#%#&@! people can relate too, thats why everyone is digging me and hes the truth hes one of the few rappers spitting real fire, no commercialized bull
torontoraptors " Lil Wayne (worst rapper of all time btw)"
Thank you, someone who says the truth, he has to make some of the worst songs and is overated as f@ck. all he does is mumble in his songs.
As for J. cole i've only listened to him a few times, i thought he was pretty good
j coles life was a struggle????actually j cole grew up in a middle class family so it wasnt like he had to deal crack to stay alive. Secondly kendrick lamar &$#%#&@! on jcole lyrcally its not even close.
Kendrick Lamar and J-Cole both are changing the scene of hiphop. Just as much as you say J-Cole talks about real ish...so does K.Dot. Diff styles, I just prefer Lamar, sue me.
I think K.Dot's flow is better, i think lyrically he is a phenom (did u hear him cypher at BET?), and like I said he's successful with beats that other rapper wouldn't make a dime with. He brings back jazzy style with real instruments on his tracks. No autotuned punk ass crap. He is real. 100...wateva u wanna call it...aka...the truth.
Who's you favorite rapper? He Dead. Amen. Yep, I killed him.
Naw mutha'&$#%#&@!a I'm just Compton's Rapper
I might spit some intricate &$#%#&@! for retards not to get
But really I'm just as rude as Marshall Mathers
Is that a contradiction? He contradicting himself again?
Of course that's a contradiction, the &$#%#&@! you think life is?
We not like like Christ is
We all want ices and devices to make the &$#%#&@! say I like this
Hes my favorite artist out their, I have been to his concert 3 times. Last week he was as Old Dominon College in VA. I traveled from Atlantic City Nj to go their, 7 hour drive.
Coles my Idol, I waited outside of his tour bus after the concert from 11 to 3 30 Am. He came out and talk to the 10 people who waited on him to sleep, He signed my album and talked with us for about 10 minutes. Cole also brought Big Sean who killed it. It was the best overall concert I have ever been to. Cole World!
Also Kendrick Lamar is pretty damm nice, I want to see him live because I already checked off J Cole and Big Sean and Wiz(hes not the best but really chill music).
Okay but seriously though. Check out Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino. Lyrically he'a a beast man. He's got a new album coming out in November too. Right now I'm still a big fan of Big Sean and J Cole is coming along too. But I always gotta be checkin out the new underground guys that need to get that recognition. I love that underground shiiiiiiiiiiiit.
@Wiz, that was funny too lol. take a shot at him while he's till 200 points down from that last post lmao
I remember back in high school when he made the song "Lollipop," and everyone asked me if I liked that song I said, "Worst rapper ever." And everyone used to roast on me and said I didn't know music, 5 years later they're saying what I said back then.
People give into consumerism too much and they forget why they like the music. Seriously, what is Roll Up about? Oh yeah, and I'm on one by Drake? The fu*k?
" I walk around the club, fu*k everybody.... too much money ain't enough money, you know the feds listenin' n**** what money?"
People just like the beat and don't listen to the message and all these main stream rappers are promoting a lifestyle that weak-minded people fall into (smoke ku*h, fu*k bitc****, get money) AND LOOK HOW ARE SOCIETY IS TURNING INTO.
Best way is too boycott these rappers. People are too easily brainwashed and if you listen to this kind of music you're only giving what these industries want.
I hope yall aint puting Kendrick Lamar or even J-Cole in the same class as Wayne. Wayne and 90% of todays rap is striaght bull&$#%#&@!, but I think these 2 are guys who may enter the mainstream and make some changes. I was hoping maybe one day that would have been immortal technique but the middle passage wait is taking him out of anything remotely close to the mind of mainstream listeners. Lupe is kind of close, but I think K.Dot has the potential to do for hiphop what Pac did back in the early 90s.
I am that high on his prospects.

This is what hip-hop has gone to? Ninjas outchea thinking this is lyrical? Do you realize what Budden and Em was doing in the beginning of Em's verse in the 2.0 Cypher? Pointing out ish like this... Spitting some ridiculous ish, make it rhyme, make it seem lyrical, and it really means NOTHING... That ish isn't lyrical or hot... His verse in the cypher was TERRIBLE too... I guess I stand alone in this... Wiz has become trash too... He was better a couple years back...
Did u hear K.Dot's cypher. His easily topped Budden and Em. Em was just all about talking how his squad was taking over rap. I wasn't overly impressed as far as for Em. It means alot if you open your ears and can understand metaphorical concepts. Listen to HiiiPower or really anything from Section .80. If you telling me that ain't lyrical, I don't understand where your coming from.
The meaning behind songs Keisha's Song, Tammy's Song, HiiiPower, Ronald Reagan Era, No Makeup...it all like a story. Do me a favor and yourself one and listen to those songs and come back and tell us your findings.
raps listen to Lupe, Common, and Mos Def... The ish "Kendrick Lamar" kicking I could do 5 years ago... MF said he's the new PAC... Smh how disrespectful... As much as I like J. Cole he is NOT the future of Hip-Hop until you underground weed smoking children understand marketing, promotional, and club ability for these rappers it ain't gonna happen...
Dude i listen to Mos Def, Immortal Tech, Common, Talib Kweli, Lupe...all that. Kendrick is slightly different then them, but he stil is great. And K.Dot don't smoke weed at all so don't bring that up. But that doesn't mean it still isn't a part of society, so you can't judge someone for putting kush in a verse when it really is everywhere and it is so controversial and misunderstood (by that I mean what the masses are telling the youth about it).
Mad respect to too MF Doom, and there is a reason why he, the west coast, and many other groups/people/hip hop nation are relieved this kid is in the game. He is gonna be special, if he isn't already.
I will agree J-Cole isn't in the same realm IMO. Kendrick Lamar is nice though and if you got a diff of opinion that is fine, but to say he isn't lyrical, especially in comparison to the crap that gets played on the airways nowaday...that is unjust.
I dont even want to share my musical genuis but I will say J.Cole spits real sh*t and is worth listening to. Kendrick Lamar is sick Section80 is a classic album. Cole & Kendrick are on the same level, Cole has put out more quality music but their still on the same level as lyrical wise(which is high), and being able to connect with fans. I understand were tuck243 is coming from with the Common and Mos Def, they are all about lyricism and if you dont pay attention you'll be like wtf are they talking about. I'm also a big fan of Mos Def. But, I wont throw Lupe name in there he's just a notch below Cole & Kendrick.
Kendrick Lamar trys to tell a story or talk deep with simple a$$ similes... It's nothing "metaphorical" about him... Lupe is WAYYYYYYY better at it... Stop it 5... "Run like Flo Joe?" Like come on really? Spit something more inspiring than that... Make something relevant to life today in fact... Like ninja's be outchea REALLY thinking they spitting on different levels that folks can't comprehend... NO!!! WE KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE SAYING... The same was said years ago when people used to talk about Nas... "Just because YOU don't understand him doesn't meaning he's nice, it means you don't understand all the Bull Ish that he writes..."
K.Dot has put out a ton of music beyond Section .80 as well. Check out the mixtape "Overly Dedicated" and just research him under the name K.Dot, as that was what he went by before changing his stage name to his real name.
Being lyrical goes far beyond just being metaphorical. And your caps lock doesn't impress me. And if you can't understand NAS or K.Dot...thats not my problem.
But if you want me to go into his metaphorical abilities as well here are some...
I think that I finally reached the pinnacle. Finding myself as an individual.
Not to mention what you're saying just shows how great he is. Most of his great works aren't gonna come in a bar or 2. Its not gonna have every other line being a simile or metaphor. Listen and watch the big picture. His songs have substance which many other rappers lack.
What exactly is "Real Hip-Hop" define that... What is "Fake" Hip-Hop? Ninja can't dance to or be in the club listening to MLK lyrics... If you go back in the day to Old Hip-Hop, they were rapping about their sneaks and girls... Very Cheesy raps to get air play... Ninja's be trying to go TOO deep and actually the ones out of touch with reality... Southside (Which I think is a idiot) had a great point when he said, "All you lyrical rappers talking all that ish about us down south Ninja's aint eating, we making money over here" It's the truth yo... Its no such thing as "Real Hip-Hop"
I really don't care what you or anyone else likes. I'm just trying to turn some people onto this type of music so I don't have to go to parties and constantly hear Lil Wayne.
If you don't like K.Dot fine...but I think you are missing out on something special. But to each his own, I have no problem with you thinking he is a joke.
You're right there is no "Real hiphop"...there is whatever you consider hiphop. Who am I to judge if you like yourself some Lil B, Mos Def, Immortal Tech, Mac Miller...what have you. If you like it do it, listen to it, enjoy it. Isn't that what music about anyway? That and spreading a message, but some people have a problem with the message some send and that is where people come at odds often in music.
So how bout we all just raise a finger, say &$#%#&@! whatever they think, and just listen to whatever u want.
I stopped listening to rap for a minute just because I was TIRED of the same old BS, but I gave J. Cole a chance.
I listened to all of his tracks on youtube and was so impressed, I went to Best Buy and paid for the man's CD. His album wasn't perfect, but the best debut I've heard in awhile.
He's not all metaphors and punchlines, which is good for a change. He has that Nas flow, where he tells a story. Real life type stuff I can relate to.
I yawned at those lame a$$ attempts to be lyrical... I do understand them, the problem is either YOU don't or you think other people don't... The ish isn't hot and it really means nothing... Nothing you put or he say's makes me go damn... Nas is nice, I think he's a dope rapper I only put that out there so you will understand what people was saying about Nas years ago and that was their #1 agenda... "You don't understand what he's saying" NO we get it, its just not that hot... Especially Kendrick Lamar...
I will repeat exactly what I said at the end of the other post...
"Not to mention what you're saying just shows how great he is. Most of his great works aren't gonna come in a bar or 2. Its not gonna have every other line being a simile or metaphor. Listen and watch the big picture. His songs have substance which many other rappers lack."
There is a reason he doesn't have the lyrical whitty one liners as often as other rappers. Coming from a Mos Def listener, I think you would realize that. His tracks have a lesson behind them and you have to listen to the whole thing. It isn't the type of rap where its...."ohh &$#%#&@! he just said that". I doubt K.Dot will drop many disses or be involved in much battle rapping at all. That isn't his style. But lyrically...yes...he is. Its in the grand scheme though. He's not a punch-line rapper.
Thats why he gets compared to Pac at times. West Coast, far more than a punch-line rapper, delivers a message.
" Flippin the script up like Mike Vick
Get bit in his junk by a pit, yup I’m a sick pup
I’d be a horrible magician Cause I’d f*ck a trick up
Fix ya lips up to say something fly, or zip up
A-B? Let’s C. You said you were gonna do X-Y-Z
Till you f*ck around and get dropped like an E
When you add an I-N-G
Don’t put a K in front of that though, When I MC
Cause I’m not the king of this microphone booth It’s more like a phonebooth
Superman in this bytch, kryptonite won’t do
It gives me more power, I bump the fat boys and
Eat rat poison, and take meteor showers"
Literally killed that ish...
Stop saying that... The only thing they have in common is Cali... You must be in the West Coast because yall jump on ANY rapper with substance and claim they nice... Tyler The Creator is better than Kendrick Lamar... I understand he's trying to put out a message its just poorly done IMO... He's trys to go too deep, with average "Punchlines" and bars... The ish isn't hot... He flows very well though... That MJ line was terrible, like the ish aint hot, it doesn't forces me to think, not clever...
In the midst of all this going back and forth, i think we can all agree that kanyedabest(i feel like a hypocrite everytime i say this, since i can't stand kanye haha)/Yeezy Racist post always cause arguements haha

I'm still laughing... Wait, wait, wait, wait.... LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL... *In tears* *Smacking my desk* AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH... I needed that... Thanks M-Dymes... Its one thing to be deep, it's another to TRY be deep... Something it seems you will never understand... It undermines your message... And honestly very disrespectful to the listener...
Thank you sir. That was actually following my arrest during G-20 in Pittsburgh. Bunch of bullcrap, almost tried to expell me from PITT along with a ton of other students when I did nothing wrong. And if I wrote for anyone but myself maybe then I would care what your biased opinion thinks, but since I don't, honestly I couldn't careless about what some nbadraft.net wannabe hiphop critic really thinks.
Never said I was a pro, and I couldn't come close to a guy like K.Dot or Mos Def. But hey atleast I write instead of hate for pleasure.
The ish sucks... Kendrick Lamar sucks... I'm entitled to say that... I don't have to feel sorry for you and who gives a flying F that you got expelled dum dum... Majority of folks on here are going to read that say damn that's F'd up and go back to eating their oodles and noodles... That's why when you try to show how intelligent you are with your word play it really shows how incompetent you really are... Listen to a rapper that writes about your daily struggle... Kendrick Lamar is so far off its ridiculous...
I didn't get expelled dumbass. I was giving background to the reason behind those lines. I can't stand douchebags like you who don't talk about anyting but negativity. Enjoy life and stop hating on everyone elses.
And yes you are entitled to say it sucks. Just like I am entitled to defend what I want, with more knowledge than you if I so chose. B/c while I speak with substance and come from an actual perspective, you just complain and give little if anything to support your constant &$#%#&@!.
is only from a prespective of listening to him daily... Kendrick Lamar isn't that dope... He's been on the scene for a while now... My knowledge is from looking at the rap game... You know why Jay-Z is considered the G.O.A.T.? Because he can give you lyrical, a punchline, and a club banger all in one song... People who TRY to be lyrical tend to dance around with word play to say something simple... People don't want to hear that... People want to hear good music, a dope beat, and great lyrics... Your boy can't do that... Waka great beats, terrible lyrics, and decent music... Kanye, Jay, Drake, and T.I. all get that... Even my boy Joey don't understand that... Kendrick sometimes sounds like he write his rhymes before he even touches the booth and hear a beat... Lyrics is only ONE part of a song... And to be honest maybe the least needed...

Whats everyones thoughts on j cole? Everyone on my team seems to like him, but i just cant get in2 him..... To be honest i dont care for him, its shocking to me how many ppl like him, i think its more hype then anything, he raps on A LOT of really nice beats but im just notta fan
