jwostrumParticipantI just read the article about thon and his brother matur moving to that institute in Canada for improved training on streghth building. I hope he can get his weight up over the next 2 years to about 240, and maybe 250 by the time he is eligible for the draft. If he could get to that weight he would become a true “once in a decade prospect”. his skill level reminds me much more of a young hakeem than joel embiid, and im a sixers fan. I really look forward to seeing this kid develop in the future.

ropeParticipantHakeem? Did you actually see him play when he was 18? When Hakeem (then Akeem) Olajuwom first got to the University of Houston his offensive game consisted of dunking the basketball. He was a long way from the Dream at that point. I see nothing in Maker’s game that reminds me of a young Olajuwon.

theprophetParticipanti know people are probably sick of the comparisons with any player and kevin garnett, but this kid may be as close as that as i’ve seen to when kevin garnett was his age. if he gets coached right, keeps his head on straight, his potential could be off the charts. 10 years from now he could be similar to what garnett was or similar to what anthony davis is now. totally optimistic thinking of course. there is always a chance for some odd reason everyone overlooks and some player busts. but the styles are very similar.

ropeParticipantGarnett never put on a lot of weight, but he was the definition of "wiry strong." Maker’s apparent goal in moving to Canada is more focused physical conditioning. If he could build his body a little more along th Garnett model, rather than trying to pack on pounds and muscle up, he will be well served.
That being said, Anthony Davis has put on some good weight in the last couple years. He is still lanky, but he looks physically stronger and it shows in his game. He had broad shoulders an a little sturdier frame to start with, though.
It seems like Maker knows what his issues are. He has a great base to start with just with his current physical attributes ad relatively wide array of skills. I think he is going to be pretty darn good.

ropeParticipantIf his real weakness is physical development, how would he be helped by reclassifying? It is wishful thinking by fans that want to rush these guys through the levels of ball.

MopgrassParticipantHis skills are well developed already and very few people can add that much weight in HS and a year of college.he can gain weight in pros.
Also, yes, for selfish reasons I’d like to see him in pros.

christebasParticipantYou think at age 16 he can gain 30-40 lbs. in 3 years? that’s not happening. He’s 16 years old 7 feet and 200-210 pounds. Unless you stuffed him with steroids he’s not likely to gain much weight in the next few years. At his age, he should be working on basketball fundamentals anyway, not pounding weights.

tjedwardzParticipantTired of seeing people compare Thon Maker to Kevin Garnett and other post players. Kevin Durant is already the new KG. The wave of the current and future is for post players to have guard skills. Thon Maker is the new Kevin Durant. He will play on the perimter in the NBA.
