I’m just curious since Thon Maker is supposedly entering the draft how high do you guys see him going ? I think he isn’t ready by at least two years, but I can see a team falling in love with his potiential and taking him high. I personally think if he does enter he will be in the D- league at least two years. I see two teams that can afford and risk taking him with the amount of picks they have the Celtics and Nuggets. The 76ers are never out the question, but I think they have more important needs since they have a log jam at the bigs spot.

The Celtics have been desperate for a big man for awhile. I’m pretty sure they will likely double up and draft at least two bigs. I have a feeling they are eyeing Skal with there second pick they have, and take a chance with Thon Maker if he still on the table after that. The first pick if they are left at 3. This might be considered taking him too high, but I think they will take Jaylen Brown. Essentialy Bradley and Smarts are the same players a 2/1. Jaylen Brown can be a 2/3.

    Good call…

It only takes one GM to be a Maker-believer and they’ll reach. Alternatively, if it gets to the end of the lottery and every team is looking for someone who can contribute somewhat immediately, then guys like Maker.

To be honest, I don’t even like the term "reach". Risk-Averse people get too caught up thinking that draft order should be set in stone based on how sites like this rank prospects. Most teams only have one or two picks in the first round, so if someone like Maker is their guy, they have to take him regardless of whether everyone else thinks it’s a "reach". After all, whenever you look back on previous drafts, it’s never even close to how things turn out in a hypothetical "re-draft" so a "reach" just turns into simply either a good or back pick.

Trading down isn’t really that easy either, and usually involves paying a premium. As someone said earlier, that’s the cost of doing business.

I cant see Denver passing on him if they keep their 4 first rounders. Its worth the risk. They took their PG in Mudiay, Maker is different to Faried, Jokic and Nurkic and they have three other picks to address the wing positions.

Denver has been known to take bigs. I’m sold on Nurkic being a long term plan for them. I also like Jokic as their PF and stretch four. They both haven’t really gotten the chance to play together, but as a duo big got some promise there. They don’t have to pick for a need, but want.

I see him going in the 14-30 range and honestly that would be best for him. Going to a playoff team that can bring him along slowly and develop his considerable potential will prevent him from having the burden of trying to contribute when he’s not ready. I hope he gets to a veteran team that can show him how to be a professional.

As of now, I would like to see where nbadraft.net has him on there draft board. I know the decision is still pending whether or not he’ll be able to be drafted, but I’d like to go ahead and hope he would be allowed to enter.

If he’s later denied by the NBA (which would be very dirty in my opinion), NBAdraft.net could always remove him from their predictions. So NBAdraft.net, let’s see where you have him! Lottery? Mid first round? Late first round?

Hes still pretty raw, he needs to go to college.. His Basketball IQ is fairly low, guys that go straight from HS to Pros that have success tend to be guys with extremely high basketball iqs.. Thon Maker is not one of those guys..

Minnesota might need to swing for the fences at 5 or wherever they pick.

There might only be 3 or 4 TRUE franchise guys in the draft…

Why not go with Thon Maker?

If they go BIG, then would you take Sabonis or Poetl or Stephen Zimmerman over Thon Maker?

I think they might take a run at the guy with the MOST UPSIDE.  So, maybe Thon or Skal to be the secondary big next to Karl Anthony Towns.

It looks like their current core is KAT, Wiggins, and LaVine.  Rubio might/might not be apart of that core.  If he is then you need a fifth guy at either big man spot.  Then go with the big with the most upside — although Poetl would be a solid choice (true 5 size) and Sabonis would be a decent choice (although I hear his jumper isn’t that great).

If I were them that is what I would look at.  If he turns into a BUST — well you still have a 3rd or 4th big backing up Towns and Dieng.  If he HITS then you have a really dangerous four or five man core.

I’d love to see him go to the Hawks where he won’t need to play for a couple of years and they can slowly develop him.

From what I have read the hawks had promised to draft Antetokounmpo until the bucks picked him up just before the hawks pick and they were apparently wanting to draft Porzingis the first year that he tested the draft waters but ultimately decided to wait an extra year and went 5th (good call by him).

I feel that Thon kind of fits the same mould as Antetokounmpo and Porzingis who were relatively unknowns and questionable at the time.

I’m not saying Thon will be as good as them but he has height, athleticism, plays hard and seems to have the determination which is a pretty good starting point.

If by few years you mean 2-3, my guess would be none.

He’s raw, weak with bad hands and a poor feel for the game.
