Bill Walton’s KneesParticipanthttp://www2.kusports.com/news/2012/apr/09/thomas-robinson-declares-nba-draft/
Kansas’ Thomas Robinson has declared himself eligible for the NBA Draft, the junior announced during a press conference at Allen Fieldhouse on Monday morning.
"I think it’s beyond words what this program meant to me," Robinson said.
Robinson, a 6-foot-10 forward from Washington D.C., announced his decision at a table next to his coach, Bill Self, and his sister, Jayla.
"In all honestly, I’ve known this was going to happen since last summer," Self said.
Robinson briefly teared up when talking about what Self and the KU program meant to him.
Self said even if Robinson had told him he wanted to come back, the coach would have suggested that he leave to go to the NBA.
"I think the entire Jayhawk nation should see this as a great day for everybody," Self said.
Robinson said he hasn’t hired an agent and hopes to have one in the next few weeks.
He also said he plans to pursue his degree in the future and commented that he’s not that many hours away from graduating.
Robinson said he’d miss walking around KU’s campus the most.
"It almost felt like everybody loves you," Robinson said. "That’s a good feeling to have."
Robinson was asked what it was that he hoped to provide most for Jayla, who celebrated her ninth birthday Monday.
"Whatever it is she wants, man," Robinson said. "I’m just happy that I have the option that I don’t have to worry about anything any more."
Couldn’t be happier for the guy. Hardest working guy out there, deserves nothing but the best. Would’ve been a huge mistake for him to come back to KU.

HitsterParticipantHis draft stock is so high, that he really had to declare. He’s had 3 years in college so it’s not like he’s jumping ship as soon as possible. He’ll be a sound pick up for someone near the top of the lottery.

DurantsWingspanI am not a huge fan of his playing style, as I’m usually not a big fan of undersized PF’s, but I am a fan of Robi9nson because of all he went through. I wish him the best.

goneParticipantHappy for T Rob representing southeast DC, putting DC athletes on the map not that DMV nonsense…

river09ParticipantI don’t think a undersized PF with no jumper and limited offensive skills has ever had a higher stock than Thomas Robinson has right now.. I don’t see it falling with a combine or anything either.. It will be interesting to see if teams start taking a long second look at him…

DurantsWingspanI’d take him maybe in the 10-14 range, I don’t see whats the differnce between him and someone like Jordan Hill.

Ghost01ParticipantI don’t think a undersized PF with no jumper and limited offensive skills has ever had a higher stock than Thomas Robinson has right now..
He is less undersized and has a more consistant jumpshot than Sullinger. And he’s a far superior athlete. He’s definitely the 2nd best PF in this draft behind Davis, and by far the most offensively skilled.

river09ParticipantIn no way does he have a more consistent jumper than Sullinger.. Sully can step all the way out to three Robinson never takes a jumpshot, not even 16 footers unless he’s left wide open..

cabbycabParticipantHe has to improve his jump hooks. I can see him struggle to finish in the L with bigger, faster, stronger players in the paint. Reminds me of Tyrus Thomas.

Bill Walton’s KneesParticipantRobinson can rebound with the best of them (18 and 17 vs Davis/Jones and UK). If there’s one thing we all know that translates from college to the NBA, it’s rebounding. He’ll find his niche in the league; he’s too hard of a worker and has too much drive and determination to fail. Haven’t been this happy to see a guy leave early in a long, long time.

MalcolmxParticipantRobinson is not that small guys he was measured more than once at 6’10 in sneakers I doubt he come out shorter that 6’9.5 in sneakers which would make him tall enough and with a 7’1 wingspan he is long enough. We all know how strong and athletic he is. Then also his mental make up has to go into account, he will do what ever for his sister.

Chilbert arenasParticipantTyrus Thomas comparison is a stretch, Robinson is one of the most coachable players in this draft and will do whatever it takes to win.

river09ParticipantAm I the only one that doesn’t think Thomas Robinson is 6’10”? It just doesn’t look like he’s that tall when he’s on the court.. I always thought he was barely touching 6’9”…

JoeWolf16’9”, 7’1” wingspan, a vert probably around 35”, 240lbs and he’ll have shoulders to rival Dwight Howard in a couple years. I don’t think being undersized will be his biggest concern in the NBA.
His offensive shot selection, I feel, is his biggest weakness. Sometimes he hits a J early and tries to force them. He’s much better on the block using quick spins, passing out of double teams and shooting jump hooks.
