JoeWolf1KU’s second exhibition game is currently underway against DII school Emporia State. He failed to impress me in the Jayhawks first exhibition game with the exception of good rebounding, but after receiving the start today he has responded by blocking 2 shots and throwing down two putback dunks in the first 3 minutes of the game. I’d still consider him very raw on offense, but I was quickly reminded on what kind of athlete he is and how he moves on recovers and helps out on deense. A "potential" guy for sure, but for those who don’t know him, a definate 2012 or 2013 1st round talent and early first round talent if he reaches his potential.

JNixonParticipantHe seems like a guy who will get picked in the late 1st or 2nd round because teams will think he has upside offensively. He’s mostly an athlete playing basketball. He has tweener size and athleticism, but nothing else besides that makes him more than a D-League player honestly. I don’t ever think he’ll be a very good NBA player, but I do think he can be serviceable in college.
He reminds me of Jeff Robinson of Seton Hall, athletic and has decent size, but what will make him an NBA player?

JoeWolf1Iggy, I think it’s his rebounding and defensive ability that will make him an NBA player, and he’ll improve on offense, although I doubt he’ll ever be more than a 3rd or 4th option. He’s 6’9” and 230-235lbs as a 20 year old, I think he is a true power forward, in fact nothing about him says tween to me and he has the frame to easily bulk to 250 in his mid 20’s. I think he can be a Larry Sanders type player and warrant a Larry Sanders draft position, obviously not this year, but next or in 2013, depending on when the Morris’ leave freeing up big minutes for him to produce.

JoeWolf1Thebobster, lol, Emporia State isn’t good by DII standards, KU and KSU always just show some love by scheduling the instate DII schools.

JoeWolf1Agreed, McDunkin, if you would have told me 2 years ago that Markeiff Morris would be a reliant 3 point shooter and could turn and fade away over each shoulder in the post and I would have laughed. Marcus Morris frustrated me so much as a freshman due to his super slow release and low energy I thought he’d be solid, but not All-American level. Danny Manning is a phenominal coach for post players to learn from. I can’t believe his work with post players isn’t more well known.

McDunkinThats what i was trying to tell a Duke fan on here awhile ago in a thread about Mason Plumlee and how Steve Wojohowski as a bigman coach is doing close to nothing for their bigs development.

JoeWolf1Wow, I didn’t realize that was Wojo’s role with the team. He knows the X’s and O’s of the game, but how can a point guard teach a center of power forward from experience on the block? My friend is a high school coach here in Kansas and went to one of Manning’s camps. He said he learned so much, just little things. He showed me one move Manning taught them, and I use it all the time now, lol. Its no coincidence KU big men make huge jumps from Freshmen to Sophomore or Junior years, not a lot of big men don’t improve much at KU since Manning joined the staff.

McDunkinYou stay in Kansas man? I used to live in Wichita a long time ago on the Base
And thats true Darrell Arthur, Darnell Jackson, Julian Wright, Sasha Kaun, Cole Aldrich, and Wayne Simien all had jumps in their games thanks to the work he put in with them.

JoeWolf1PaulsJayhawks and others that may be interested.
Kind of a sloppy game in general, they were up by 30+ most of the game and although they played hard and with great energy, the talent level didn’t force them to really play a great game. The Morris twins and Tyshawn and some of the more high profile NBA prospects didn’t play as many minutes, 5 guys in double figures but I think Markeiff lead all scorers with 14 or something including another 3 pointer and some very polished moves on the block.
Thomas Robinson – I mentioned him because he played with great energy all game. Used his great athletic ability to get some boards he wouldn’t be able to get against better competition, but his relentless energy was promising as well as the form on his jumper. He hit a 15 footer and although I can’t get stats now because it was just exhibition I think he was 4-6 from the free throw line.
Travis Releford – Another guy who stood out. I don’t think he’ll be an NBA player, but I think can realize his potential as a very good collegiate perimeter defender and showed good Bball IQ moving without the ball cutting to the lane and moving without the basketball.

JoeWolf1Yeah, I moved here when I was little from Chicago, I’m a non traditional college student now, and plan to leave Kansas when I graduate, but I’ll miss watching all the KU games, lol. With no NBA team it’s crazy here.

PaulsJayhawksParticipantI know he’s from Mizzou but don’t you find it funny that he’s choosing between 2 hated rivals. Which ever way he chooses he will get boooed severly in the other teams building. I of course hope he comes to KU.

But Kansas always gets the big time time recruits so well see.

JoeWolf1I mainly put this here because it shows some of what Keiff has been working on in his post game. He’s hit that fade away at a high clip in each of the two games. Also the biggest FAIL of an alley oop I’ve seen in a while at Tyrel Reed’s expense, LOL
