mavsatxParticipantThibs was plying his starting lineup which included a number of injury prone players against the scrubs that kidd subbed in during the late 3rd quarter. I feel like this is just ridiculous. How could he have not learned from Derrick rose and everything that happened since he was left in the game when it was clearly at hand. They were up nearly 50 points and milwakuee had absolutely no chance of coming back at all. Just don’t understand his thinking… at all

halfdecayedParticipantmaybe he tried to intimidate Cleveland like : Did you see that? we beat a really young team that shouldnt even be in the playoffs 6 games and their most promising player was out all year

ChewyParticipantas he gained head coaching experience he would learn to ease up on the minutes he puts players through. All NBA teams except for the Bulls are lowering the MPG for their starters to develop for well rounded rotations.
I’m starting to think Tibs will never do it and he is such a good coach that there are going to be tons of players hurt under his watch because he is going to be a head coach in the NBA for the next 15-20 years easy.

phila9012ParticipantAlso his players will have shorter careers which doesn’t really affect him that much but it affects the players. He rode luol deng hard his last 4.5 years there. You could tell it had worn on him this year, he is 30 but he is an old thirty. He is doing it to jimmy butler as well the past 2 years by playing him 39mpg. He also got hurt both of those years as well. Most teams are moving to the spurs model of playing players 32 to 34 mins for stars. Westbrook played 34 mpg, curry and Thompson played 32mpg, kawhi played 32mpg. This will help them prolong their careers and keep them healthy for the playoffs which is what really matters. Thibs is one of the hardest workers in the NBA but he needs to realize what he is doing is unsustainable and is hurting his players and his team.

omphalosParticipantI tried to put myself in his shoes as it was happening to figure out a reason he might have had for leaving some of his starters out there.
Heres what I came up with:
1) He wanted to give Rose more time to work off the rust, get a few easy shots against the Bucks bench players and rebuild his confidence before the Cavs series.
2) He wanted to try out some new line-ups with partial starters with no pressure because he hasn’t had enough time to experiment with a healthy roster.
3) He wanted to give Noah a chance to break out of his offensive slump and again, restore confidence.
4) He wanted to send a message to the players that they should never ease off, because if they understood that already they wouldn’t have needed 6 games to beat the Bucks.
5) He wanted to prove that he could do it without anyone getting hurt and dispel any superstition that might be brewing.
6) He wanted to stick it to Bulls management, which really, he wasn’t doing because their minutes were down compared to other games in the series.
I really don’t know what he was thinking, but I feel like it might be 3 or 4.

Magic JordanParticipantIt is for this reason alone that I think he is better suited as an assistant coach. Don’t get me wrong, I think he even makes a great head coach and he usually overcomes tons of obsticles like injuries and such. It just seems that he can’t get out of his own way at times and needs to be 2nd in command to avoid his own stuborness. I’m still waiting for one team to try the offensive/defensive coordinator routine. What a combination Danphoney and Thibs would make. Put them together and you might have one hell of a coach…. Then again, Dantoni was riding Kobe like he was 25 playing him 48 minutes multiple times at the end of an already grueling season.

joe2324ParticipantThibs is definately the anti Greg Poppovich. Great coach, understands the game better than anyone, but doesn’t understand that players are human. I think it would be best to part ways with him regardless of how the team does in the playoffs. As someone pointed out, Butler is taking a beating and soon enough it will catch up to him the same as it did for Deng. You can’t blame Thibs for Rose’ injury history, but it certainly doesn’t help. If the Bulls can stay healthy, i’m taking all the way to finals against the spurs. Spurs in 7. Then, after the finals, I fire him.
