WizardofOzParticipantWhat do you guys think he’ll do well at the next level? He looks like the type to be completely useless trying to play a role. He’s not smart, skilled or active enough to impact the game when he’s not featured. He’s nowhere near good enough to be featured, even off the bench.
IMO, he has all the makings of a scrub who’s option wont be picked up as a rookie.
Jones better declare this yr while he’s still considered a 1st rounder. At least he’ll get paid.

Dale WorthingtonParticipantWeren’t you all over his jock a year ago?
It’s easy to get down on a guy when he’s playing hurt.

WizardofOzParticipant"Weren’t you all over his jock a year ago?"
I was never high on him. So far, he’s looked like the exact same player as last year to me.

NJHooper95ParticipantI think Jones is a good college player, but he gets lost alot, shaky jumper, and a low motor. As a pro, I wouldnt draft Jones too high, I think he can be a solid player off the bench. I just dont see him being much more than a role player in the league. If he keeps playing the way he is now, he will be just a role player on his college team. I think maybe all the hype of the freshmen has overshadowed him, and maybe he feels out of place. Neverthless the less, I see him as a role player off the bench as of right now.

Krypt14ParticipantPoor mans Lamar Odom?
Does a lot well but nothing great.

ilike.panochasParticipantHe reminds me of Boris Diaw. Like Diaw, he will tease you with triple-double then have an inconsistent game the next. Similar skills and body type as well.

Malik-UniversalParticipantterrence jones is one of my fav college players
still, im not sure about his nba outlook… he will be a first round pick easily btw
never expect him to make an all star team ever or get 18 a game in a season
he doesnt have the quickness to play the 3 full time while his jumper is inconsistent and his form not polished
him bulking up in the summer was a smart move… i think he will be able to play some four in the nba, he has good length, is skilled, and is tough inside
the guy will be solid in the nba i think, hopefully
but u never know what can go down

JNixonParticipantHe reminds me of Marvin Williams meets Jeff Green. He’s an oversized SF or an undersized PF who’s a mismatch and he can post up smaller wings and be more athletic than most PF’s, but he has a low IQ, motor, and he’s still struggling with his unselfishness and shooting consistency. I think he can be solid, but he still has alot to learn. He’s got athletic tools and size, he just needs a good deal of polish and refinement.

Dale WorthingtonParticipantOkay, sorry about that, Wiz.
It’s just funny how everyone was creaming over TJ last year and now he plays rough over a few weeks while he’s clearly banged up and everyone claims they’ve always hated him.

Future_Scoutmain problem with terrence jones is his handling. ever since that game in indiana he has looked EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE with the ball in his hands, either in the wing or in the post. in this game he fumbled the ball like 3 times, FOR A QUICK HALF A SEC and then recovered it. worst part is,it was in a literally in a catch-dribble-pass situation. he needs to practice on his handles even more than his shot

butidonthavemoneyThat’s how everybody around here is all the time. Bunch of flip-floppers. Once Jones starts playing at a high level again, his skeptics will disappear.
Terrence Jones will be a solid pro, but he’ll also be a coach’s headache. Like Iggy mentioned, he can post smaller players and take bigger players off the dribble. He also projects well defensively.
He’s a better prospect than Earl Clark was, though they have similar profiles.

sheltwon3ParticipantI remember when Rudy Gay was taking shots from how he played in college and that is what dropped his draft position but he turned out to be a better pro because his skill translated and he matured. I think the same could happen to Terrence Jones. I actually think he was wise to stay at least 2 years. He may even do better by staying 3 years. Lots of small forward of combo have benefited from staying longer.
Look at Landry Fields.

Meditated StatesParticipantHe will be a role player but most players are. The two freshmen are better prospects and I think jones is having issues with that

surveParticipantNBA talent and skill level with Bermuda Triangle style game….subject to mysterious disappearances.

surveParticipantskillwise, I dont have a problem with him. he has disappeared in several games and where there was NO mention of him being injured. his body language looks as if he is easily discouraged.

Im trying to see how Terrence Jones compares to Rudy Gay in any sense from a transitioning to the NBA standpoint, would you care to shed light on it. They were different players with much difference styles and strengths and weaknesses.

TheLastWordParticipantHe has played his way out of being a lottery pick.

crazyqx83ParticipantJones’ problems are mental. He doesn’t understand spacing all that well and even on his fluid post moves he projects where the ball is coming off. He takes advantage of his athleticism on fast break dunks but tends to play below the rim in the halfcourt, for some reason. He takes a set jump shot and often plays finesse in the post aside from the rare occasions that he drop steps into a monster jam like he did in the game against UNC this year and against Notre Dame and several other teams last year. He also pouts when things aren’t going his way offensively which affects his overall game too much. Somehow his inability to drive right from last season has progressed into an inability to drive at all this season. Who knows, maybe it’ll be a reverse from last year where he dominated the first 15 games and struggled the last 20.

scbe2223ParticipantJones is the type of player that can really get in a funk and stay there for awhile. He’ll come up with a big game soon and be fine. As far as his production at the next level, I would be wary of drafting him in the first 20 picks or so. His shooting has improved and he is pretty strong, but he just doesn’t have the best mental makeup, and still only has a left hand most of the time. He needs a lot of polishing but should be a good role player on a good team.

TRC1991Participanta few things:
1) Terrence Jones started his freshman year off with a bang, and he’s actually seemingly regressed since then, and i believe a lot of it happens to be because he isnt the featured player like he initially expected himself to be coming into Lexington.
2) I want to remind you, he has a lot of talent…he dropped 35 on auburn last year and also got 27 and 17 against notre dame, so his skill level cant be questioned.
3) He needs to lose weight. I think Jones would be so much more effective at 230-235 then he is at his current 252 lbs
4) He needs to stop thinking every game is a showcase of his skills, i agree with you 100% that he isnt the type of guy like josh smith or shawn marion who can do all the little things and STILL be effective
5) He needs to develop more perimeter skills so he can play the 3 at the next level because I dont think hes got the mental toughness to bang in the paint and be fine with it game in and game out
