What do you guys think about Jones?  I’ve been going back and forth on him for 2 years.  I think the mid-to-late teens is a good spot to take him, though.  I used to think he’d make a good SF, but now I definitely think he’ll be playing the 4.  He has good size and great athleticism and he can occasionally shoot the ball (if he works on this, he could be really good).  He seems like a classic tweener, but I think he could be pretty successful in the right situation.

What are some teams that you think would be a good fit for him?

(PS. I know I’ve been bashing Thomas Robinson in some other threads recently, so sorry if it offends you.  But I have one more…I’d much rather have Jones in the mid-teens than Robinson in the top 5.  Then again, I’d rather have Jones over Robinson regardless of draft spot haha)

I definitely agree that he’ll play the 4 in the NBA.  It just seemed at times in college (especially his freshman year) that he wanted to be a 3.  I think he started to realize what he’s capable of as a 4 in his second year.

To be honest I don’t even think he’s that much of a tweener. He’s a 6-9 250 pounder who got really good mobility, therefore people tends to classify him as a tweener. The team that drafts him, will likely want him to be a 4 and I think it’ll be just fine. He just has to focus on it and stop trying to be a wing.

I envision Terrence Jones as having a career similar to that of the former ODU product, Chris Gatling; about 17 and 8 during his prime years, and more like 11 and 5 during his non-prime years. Smart, savy, competitive player, not a superstar, but a nice player to have.

Terrance Jones isnt a small forward or power forward,he’s a ball player..Those type of guys are invaluable..Especially in today’s game when teams play small ball….I’d take him over Robinson also..Calipari has a history of playing his players out of position to get the best out of them..Tyreke Evans,CDR,Cousins and Bledsoe played out of position or in places they didnt in high school under Coach Cal,but it helped prepare them for the pros…

thats a good comparison and incidentally, I think he will fall close to the same draft position.  (Gatling was 16th overall)  I think Jones is the man to watch for at 15 for the 76ers.  I have had Moultrie going there, but in my latest adjustment I moved Moultrie up to 12th at Milwaukee….which allowed me to move Jones in at 15th.

he is not a tweener, he is just not a point forward/small forward like people were clammoring about when he came out of HS.  he is a PF….plain and simple.

Jones has the most potential as a defender in my opinion.  As a freshman, he would miss rotations and not always play smart on the defensive end, but he was much better as a sophmore.  In fact, I think he really seemed to improve all areas of his game as a sophmore.

To really meet his potential, he needs to really work on his off hand.  He struggles to both handle the ball and finish at the rim using his right hand.  He was a good isolation scorer in college due to his quick first step, excellent strength, and ability to finish strong above the rim.  To succeed as an iso scorer and face-up post scorer in the NBA, he needs to develop a right hand.

Developing an effective perimeter shot could have the same impact, as NBA teams would be fine with him shooting jump shots if he doesn’t make them more than he did in college.  I don’t think he is going to be a great post scorer or finisher at the rim off of cuts to the basket, so refining his perimeter game is key to his success as a pf.

I really like him. He’s a skilled, versatile four that can play as a 3 in spot minutes. He’s 6′ 9.5" 250 with 7’2" wingspan so he’s definitely big enough to play the 4 in the NBA. And he’s mobile – an absolute match up nightmare. He can post up smaller 4s and take bigger & slower ones off the dribble. However, he lacks post play and doesn’t have go-to moves. But he has all the tools to get there. Incosistent motor but in the right situation it shouldn’t take long to fix it.

I’d like to see him in Philly alongside his HS friend T Ross. If Philly trades Iggy to draft Ross, I’d like them to draft Jones at #15. I don’t think he’s that far behind Moultrie on offense, and Jones is definitely the better defender, and imo overall the better player.

If I was running NO’s I would team up Jones and Davis in the Pro’s. Would be a nice combo

I think this guy most certainly is coming out of college as a tweener.  I’ve watched Thad Young now for years and I know a tweener when I see one.  However, I think that within 3 years Terrance Jones will become a starter at some position, most likely PF, largely because of his already decent jumper and upper body strength.  Two things the aformentioned Thad Young didn’t/doesn’t have.

I’m a very big fan of T Jones.  He had a great freshman year at Kentucky and then willingly took a back seat this year to accomodate Davis, MKG, and Teague.  I def see him a power forward in the NBA.  He’s 6’9” and 250 pounds of solid muscle.  He’s a mismatch nightmare in the mold of Lamar Odom, or a possibly less explosive Josh Smith.  I think he’ll def go within the top 20 picks of this years draft as well as being one of the most NBA ready rookies next year.  In his prime i see him averaging something like 17ppg, 8-9rbg, 3-4 assists per game as well as playing solid defense

Kid is better prospect than MKG. I see a lot of mistakes going down in this draft if this sites mock is even close.

not because of size, he just not good enough as a PF, if he’s PF i don’t see starter material player, just ok player.

Is a good bench role player. He will not get buckets like Jones will and Jones is solid on D.
