aktripleParticipantSo just as a sidenote before this I’m really impressed by Brian Anderson (commentates next to grant hill for tnt games) he is fluid and explains what is happening in games as well as providing the viewers with relevant information and keeping them up to date with whats happening.
anyways now to this
So i thought to myself after having to suffer through a celtics broadcast about the team commentators and so I have decided to make my own personal rankings board of every teams commentators (This does not include commentators for games on ESPN and TNT and etc)
30. Boston- Tom heinson just ruins what is an otherwise enjoyable broadcast
29.Cleveland- i enjoy the lead commentator but austin carr( i think) just has the same effect as Tom heinson.
28. Chicago- They provide some info about other teams but rarely do anything other than hype derrick rose or jimmy buckets over something small like a layup
27. Philadelphia- I actually enjoy the commentators but the team is so terrible they run out of new content and it ends up with them talking about how good the other team is
26. San Antonio- they seem more like spurs fans than spurs commentators
25. Memphis- Same as San Antonio
24. New Orleans- same thing as chicago they only hype up Anthony Davis and the rest of the broadcast is quite boring.
23. Indiana- broadcast is funny but not for the right reasons however the lead commentator is very good and knowledgable
22. Houston- They try their best to interest the viewers but its not their fault that the rockets are the worst team to watch in basketball
21. Utah- I dont hate them but i dont love em either
20. Phoenix- i enjoy the way they say good things about their players but also acknowledge their flaws and when they do something wrong
19. Milwaukee- They actually sound like they know what theyre doing sometimes
18. Oklahoma City- If they didnt make the same call with westbrook and durant and gave more emphasis to the lesser known players they would be higher on this list
17. Detroit- They make good valid points however hack a drummond unfairly weighs down on them
16. Dallas- I admire how they handled the rondo situation and i also like how they break down the game
15.Charlotte- from what ive watched of the hornets (admittedly not a lot) the chick seems to know what she’s talking about and they have a different broadcast becasue of it
14. Denver- the commentors have tried to salvage the season for denver as they fit perfectly with the highlight style that denver plays
13. Lakers- They are not afraid to rip into their own players which i like as they are keeping it real with the fans and not idolising their players (COUGH celtics COUGH)
12. Brooklyn- theres a reason Ian Eagle commentates nationally televised games
11.Orlando- Very good at hyping up the other team as well as their own team for the casual viewers.
10. Minnesota- Very good at helping the viewers to envision the future of this team while also promoting the good plays the other team makes.
9. Washington (i’m a wizards fan so this could be a bit biased) Phil chenier is very good at picking his moments when to get excited and when to be techinical also very good at elevating the other team
8. New York- as i said with Brooklyn theres a reason Mike Breen can be considered the best commentator
7. Portland- Very Enjoyable to watch and the commentators provide a bunch of information and stats as well as pick their spots on calls.
6. Sacramento- Consistently been one of my favourite commentating teams and does an excellent job of portraying both their team and the opposing team in a positive light.
5. Golden State- They hype up the opposing teams as dangerous and as serious threats to the warriors (even though they usually arent) as well as make memorable calls (That klay thompson 37 point quarter)
4. Atlanta- This top 4 is where it gets very hard to distinguish between whos better but i have to do it anyway. this team has always been very smart and knowledgable while also criticising their team for mistakes and it helps to have the input of an nba legend
3. Toronto- The grittiness in the voice is always a plus when the commentator is smart and educated about basketball. it also fits in well for big time momentum plays in the air canada centre when the crowd erupts and you hear the voice.
2. Clippers- (This is a toss-up between miami and the clipper either one couldve been the top spot) SLAM DUNK OH ME OH MY thats all i need to say
1. Miami- One thing that stuck out to me about these commentators is when jeff green hit that buzzer beater with .6 of a second left they got as excited as if their own team had hit one. Goes to show they love basketball not just their own team
Sorry for the lengthy post but i havent really heard anyone talk about commentators before and remember this is my personal opinion so if you dont agree with it you don’t have to thumbs down cuz this took me a bit of time

Chilbert arenasParticipantCan’t say I’ve heard them all, but I love Ralph Lawler and can’t stand Tommy Heinson so +1. Impressed you have something to say about each hometown crew

ZouldiersParticipantEric Reid and Tony Fiorentino FTW. Hell, I’ll even include Jason Jackson as well. They’re probably the most unbiased team commentators and everytime I watch the Heat live stream I was hoping these guys would be commentating so yeah.

Robb_CParticipantI find it Ironic, you ranked the teams with the best broadcasting groups in Miami and LA, (two teams with the most uninterested fanbases) Both Franchises couldnt keep fans in the seat Till the end of the game if you paid them..

PrecociousNeophyteParticipantI haven’t heard everyone either but I would have to put Ian Eagle #1 and Joel Meyers #2. Joel has probably the best voice I have ever heard on TV. Cant believe you have him at #24

Magic JordanParticipantMike Rice from Portland should automatically disqualify them.

Jr. ROXASParticipantPortland commentators should be way lower. Those guys are biased as hell. And Chicago comentators should be top ten. As long as its a good play, those guys get excited. Stacey King is a beast. They also give credit to opposing players a lot.

celticsthugTom heinson is legend with great insight to the game of basketball. One of the best color guys in the game known worldwide for his flare and great game analysis.

jacobkeyParticipantAs a Thunder fan and a resident of OKC, I can say without a doubt that the Thunder commentators are HORRIFIC. They are INCREDIBLY biased and can’t even acknowledge when an obvious and easy call goes against them. Michael Cage routinely states painfully obvious things that anyone can recognize like it’s some sort of profound insight.

Hype MachineI wonder why ESPN can’t hold onto any of their employees
First Bill Simmons bolted…then Mike Tirico
And now Skip Bayless.
Rumor has it that they pay the most, but I think on-air talent is chasing more artistic expression and ESPN is effectively censoring their views in order to tow the company line.

natevalParticipantAs a Celtics fan I understand most of the points made about Tommy Heinson, He’s a legend no doubt but I think it’s time for him to call it a career.
Brian Scalabrine does all of Boston’s away games instead of Tommy. Scal is great and will go on the replace Tommy for many years as the voice of Celtics.
