I will always have love for both players and this may be completley irrelavant but T-mac is producing more than vince. If t-mac can stay healthy…which i think he just hurt his knee. but I could see him sticking in the league til he is 40. Even though they recently lost to miami w/o lebron and wade. T-mac revealed his new veteran swagger that could keep him in the league til he’s 40. Who would you take on your team at this piont in their careers?

Tracy McGrady is one of the most prolific scorers of our time. But little do people remember his great all-around ability. What will keep T-Mac in the league is his willingness to defer and contribute in as many minutes as he is given. Unlike players such as Steve Francis and Allen Iverson, who couldn’t take playing a reserve role because they believed they were still all-stars. Teams must honor his shot and his passing ability is underrated.

Really? 40? He’s 32 and he’s a role player on a good team. I think he’ll playy at this level for 2-3 more years, but he’ll tail off soon, and by the time he’s 36 or 37, he’ll be a 12th man just mentoring younger guys. So I think he’ll retire anywhere from age 35-38, but not 40, and he defeinatly won’t be productive at age 40.

I was watching Open Court the other day, where Shaq, C-Webb, Kenny Smith, Chuck, Reggie Miller, Steve and Kenny Smith, and Steve Kerr talk about their experiences in the NBA.

When asked whether he could give a team 5 minutes, for just one game, Chuck responded by saying "Hell no!"

And they were all saying how they all left the game when they did because their body just couldn’t take it any longer, and they all decided it was time. Even Reggie and Steve Kerr who look like their in-shape and you’d think would still be able to knock down threes, but they themselves said that when you realize that your body aches every time you workout, it’s time to go.

And often, only great players last that long, and although T-Mac was a greatt player, his knees are done and he doesn’t have what he used to have, so although if a Kobe or Duncan or KG could play till age 39 or 40 like Shaq did, they may not elect to do so.

    Ditto what Aamir said.

Like I posted in another thread which talked about their favourite players 35 and older, TMac is only 32 and has been washed up since he was 29. And I am a huge TMac fan but his body gave out on him. I can see him being productive a couple more years at best but I think he’ll be out of the league by the time he’s 36.

TMac now and TMac then.  TMac is well known for not being able to win playoff series, but his ability to take over a game was incredible in his prime–Kobe-like.  He was one of the truly elite players in the NBA for a nice stretch.  Vince was never as dominant of a player, though he was a Dominique Wilkens-level highlight reel and a very good player in his own right.

I’m taking T-Mac..love his game and like people said before, he’s got the all-around game and mentality needed to stick around in the league past 30..was an elite player and loved watching him play and can only hope for conitnued success!

All good points. When I said t-mac he could be in the league until 40 was part wishful thinking but also he has that vet swag and knows his role. Last year in Detroit was huge for him, I think he finally accepted his role and was praised for it, even this year he’s still a fan favorite which is great to see. I’m glad he picked the hawks, they may not win the chip but he can be a silent assassin this year staying healthy, numbers might not be tere but if he stays consistent potential 6th man of year. Also, it’s funny how over the last week/week and a half Vin dunks on okafor, dunk of the night. Also t-mac had a dunk in the post over 2 guys.
