Dgtool2ParticipantIn recent lottery history, there has always been a surprise player that climbs far and above of where he is expected to be drafted. Anthony Bennett, Dion Waiters, and Tristian Thompson come to mind. Who do you guys think this year’s surprise pick will be?

Lotto StudParticipantJames Young may make the biggest leap in the lottery.

XYRYXParticipantI think Aaron Gordon might end up beeing drafted higher than expected. I know some have him relatively high because of his great instincts and work ethic along beeing an (slightely) athletic monster. If and that’s a big if he measures out at 6’9" or higher along with a good reach he will be on a lot of GMs wishlists.
The sad part about this might be way to many expectations. I still think Faried is a pretty solid comparison and the fact that he was a late first rounder and that there was basically no pressure for him in Denver from the beginning was a dream scenario for him. He then had the confidence to dominate in practice and training camp that the Nuggets shipped Nene out. I hope Aaron Gordon doesn’t get drafted too high, I want to face him an uphill battle and not the downhill battle many higher picks receive. I don’t see him responing very well to expectations as a top 10 pick and would rather see him on a good playoff team with veteran leadership where he has 2 seasons with limited minutes and but clear role.

Magic JordanParticipantAaron Gordon is already way more skilled than Farried. Better ball handler, better range (albeit not great by any means) better passer, better defender, moves better laterally.
I really don’t like this comparison besides the fact the are both slightly undersized and comparable athletes. But that could describe 40 people in the NBA.
I would take Gordon over Farried right now.

kazamParticipantI think someone within the top 4 will fall in love with Noah Vonleh and he will be selected ahead of Julius Randle

Land of GrantParticipantGary Harris. The 2 is a weak position and there are lottery teams who need one, he’ll do well in workouts too thanks to his athleticism and if there’s a team picking around #6 which doesn’t need a PF they could grab him.

morestealsthanscoresParticipantto be honest, i’d say 90% of the ‘surprise picks’ at the top of the draft come when GMs base their picks solely on team needs rather than the best player available- therefore, impossible to say right now. However, further down the draft:
– Shabazz in the top 15 is a good shout
– I think someone might reach for DeAndre Daniels in the top 20
– One or two surprise Euros will go in the first round- Bogdanovic or Gentile could go early.0 - Posted on: Tue, 04/22/2014 - 1:55am #891828

Ty BenjaminsParticipantAfter workouts and scrimmages, Elfrid payton could end up being the first PG selected

The QParticipantI think Napier, Payne and James Young are all GREAT options.
I think the only way Gary Harris would shock me is if he went ahead of someone like a Vonleh or Randle.
Maybe that won’t even be a shock depending on how the draft lotto falls.

FourParticipantThere are questions about his athleticism but it only takes one GM to fall in love with you. And GMs are still enamored with size – a 6’9" guy who may be able to run the point? I could see someone thinking that is too good to pass up.
