iCalledBankParticipantIm a fan of what Phoenix is doing with their young team & building around Booker bc I think hes a stud and will break out for his first ASG this season… Having said that, I dont keep up much with the Suns media & looking at their current roster, 3 pgs Knight, rookie Okobo & Shaq Harrison… Is Brandon Knight really falling back into a NBA starting job out of pure need? I thought the entire organization had written Knight off due to character issues or whatever that mess had turned into… Now coming off an ACL reconstruction, is he really poised to be the starting pg in Phoenix? I stumbled on this question while reading some summer Suns posts about Brandon Knight turning into a leader(?) for these young Suns and Igor calling him his starter?!?
Just wanting to hear some input on this… how will this turn out for the Suns? How long before a trade? or do you let these young guys just roll this season & hope Okobo develops. Im curious to see how this plays out and how well Igors O runs thru the strengths of these young guys

KIP BallerParticipantI think the Suns realized they were not going to make the playoffs this year and didnt want to trade assets or overpay an average point guard and jeopardize their future with the chance to win a couple more games. Starting Knight has a few positives. For one, if he plays well, you have at least an average starting pg without giving up anymore assets. Or if he plays well, he can be used as a trade asset to gain draft picks or cap flexibility. Knight seems to be saying all the right things and may be able to find his niche on this young Suns team as leader. The Suns seem to be high on Okobo as well and there is some belief that he could be a starting level pg in a couple years. Whether Knight is good or bad, Okobo will get his chance to play so the Suns know what they have in him after two year.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantKnight almost certainly opens the season as the starter by default. While he might not be the ideal long-term solution, I think they will give him a chance to rebuild his reputation after his injury and possibly increase his trade value (which is pretty much non-existent at this point). But they are clearly going to have to do something within the next year to address the pg situation, whether it be through the draft or trade.

The GoatParticipantI think you’ll find Booker and Jackson starting with Warren, Ariza and Ayton. I think there’s some thought they can do a bit of a James Harden with Booker, give him the reins. He has the shooting range and scoring, can pass a bit, his weakness is his D, so all very similar in that sense. Could work I guess. They probably need another gunslinger to play the Eric Gordon role. role. Ariza is Ariza. Ayton can potentially be a scoring version of Capela. Knight can be a fall back option if it doesn’t work and Okobo slowly work his way into minutes either way.

Andv1 WaitingParticipantIt will depend on how the suns run things:
Do they move forward with the Harden/Dantoni model of having Booker play sudo Point guard/SG and try for the highest seeding possible.
or
Do they wait until 2019/2020 and either go after the best Available F.A P.G or do you one last tank job(not saying it out loud) and going after the best available P.G Rookie-Maybe a R.J barret of Duke for example..
Personally I would use next season to semi tank,by this I mean they see what they can do by Allstar weekend and if they aren’t in the mix to make the playoffs then they go full tank mode and try tank for a top 3 pick and go after the B.A Point guard…

HitsterParticipantIf Brandon is fit I thibk they would want his experience on court alongside Booker unless they give Booker free reign and look to clear SF logjam by using some swingmen at 2 on occasion.

BeastMode716ParticipantI especially luv the trade the Suns made w/ Phila at the 2018 Draft. I know an unprotected 2021 Miami Heat 1st round pick was you to give up, but acquiring Villnova Junior Mekel Bridges is a Great fit for Phoenix
Bridges is an excellent defender & finisher at the Rim but he’s also an Outstanding 3pt shooter – Very consistent. This allows Phoenix some flexibility if they decide to have D Booker run the point, they can put Josh Jackson – a super freak athlete, defender & transition Rim wrecker to play the 2/SG b/c Booker & Bridges can space the floor & hit 3pt shots
They have Ayton on the block who will wreak havoc at the Off end & they have some versatility at the PF spot – I like the trade for Richaun Holmes from Phila – I never thought they used Holmes properly. Holmes is an Oustanding shot blocker but Phila Never used Holmes as a Rim Protector – Holmes is an energy guy, Dunks everything & can shoot the 3 a little bit so Phoenix could play Holmes at the 4/PF next to Ayton to function as a weak side help Defense shot blocker like the Knicks do w/ Porzingus & at the Off end he can help space the floor & a team w/ those athletes in Transition would be one hell of a show!
Trevor Ariza was a Great signing of a vet Def Wing. Phoenix has some other young talents who were very high Lottery picks. As a team, the Suns have a Ton of Flexibility & they are a team a lot like the Sixers going into last year in that the Entire Country Wants to watch this team – it remains to be seen if Phoenix can develop as fast as Phila – but even if they are a bit slower the Suns are a team on the Upswing!
