studying knicks salaries for next season + stat trade ideas
The Knicks passed on resigning Jeremy Lin so even they are aware of the new tax penalties but I'd figure they would pay JR Smith whatever he wants within reason as they remain one of the richest teams in the NBA and should have play off revenue to boost their income again this season. Also they have waited so many years to contend again, I don't see them wanting to break it up again.
so the answer for the knicks is to give amare stoudamire, a multiple all-star, away for free?
Whatever happens STAT is UNTRADABLE....
not about his talent but his contract is not guaranteed and still too heavy to carry for any team in the nba.
I agree that he is untrade-able because of the contract, but i also feel that he is untrade-able because of talent alos. His talent has not decreased and when he gets healthy. I think the Knicks need him and his ability on the floor in order to win a championship. They have a great team, but without Amare and Shump, they wont be NBA Champions
Why would Phoenix give up Marcin Gortat for essentially Spencer Hawes?
Stat is untradeable because he has a guaranteed and uninsureable contract. On the off chance that he is tradeable. It will only be for other players who have a huge contract and who aren't performing. The Bargnani trade is the only trade that has been floated around that makes any sense at all. And even so the Raptors would have to throw in another $10 mllion per year of salary. And all the Knicks would get back would be a guy who isn't as good as Novak.
I hope he comes back and proves us all wrong though. I've watched Blatche completely change his game (he hit 38% of his shots last season and is shooting more and hitting 50% this season!!!). So now I think anything is possible.
Pistons would never do that trade because they already have Monroe/Drummond as big men. They also would be wise to continue with youth movement and stash money to sign a solid young fa and rely on high draft pick this year to bud into a star even in a weak draft, but who knows with JoeD running team.
The would "never" do it ! Amare will provide instant leadership to the team he will provide veteran experience which could be amazing to the development of drummond . And basically they aren't trading anyone with value to the knicks so the better question to be asked is will the knicks do this trade !
These big 5 year deals for older players has really stung so many teams. These players (Amare, Joe Johnson, Rip Hamilton, Arenas, Rashard Lewis) are good for maybe 2 or 3 years then really struggle in their 4th and 5th year - JJ may be an exception but his best years are behind him...

hello,
i was watching the knicks last night vs the suns and i saw JR Smith hitting great shot after great shot who eventually won the game for them. felton kidd and chandler all have impact on this successful start of the knicks season, but in my opinion JR has impacted the most and he is clearly in lead for 6th man of the year award.
with this elite play by Smith the knicks will be facing a financial problem this off season :
the link below shows the knicks salaries for the upcoming season

you can see that JR has a player option and will clearly decline because the amount of money he's getting is ridiculously low comparing to J kidd, M camby, R felton and steve Novak are earning. so to resign him the knicks will have to go over the cap and will pay the luxury tax or will let him walk.
this will lead us to the imminent trade of Amare but first he should return and up his value a little and show the world that he still has some gas in the tank and by the deadline he's gone (see below some trade ideas):

thanks for some feedback.
