Mr. HookShotParticipantLooking at this year’s free agency class, the biggest wild card has to be Stephenson. He showed (especially in the first half of) this season that he can play very well within the flow of a team, being a creative and willing passer and a ferocious defender. The second half however he showed his deficiencies, with people around the league labelling him as immature and ego-centric.
What do you guys think he is worth? Different sources have mentioned anywhere between $6 and $11 million a year, although this was mainly based on his terrific first half year. I believe he will get around $7-8 million a year, considering both the upside and risk of signing somebody like Lance to such a rich long-term contract.
One team I would like to go after him are this year’s champions, the San Antonion Spurs. They have the cap space ($8 million) to offer him good money, while also offering him a place to develop as a player and win a championship simultaneously. For the Spurs he would give them a nice second young option next to Leonard, so they will be able to sustain their current success when Manu and Duncan will retire. In two years, they would have a team with Parker (then 34 years old), Leonard (24 yrs), Stephenson (25 yrs), and Splitter (31 yrs) as their main core. Any chance Lance joins the Spurs? Do you guys think Pop mold him into a more efficient player, while maintaining his energy when playing?

morestealsthanscoresParticipantNot a chance do the Spurs take Stephenson. The Spurs are full of high character, professional players. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of Lance, but there’s absolutely no way the Spurs would want him on their team.

ditotayParticipantwith Lance is that in his contract year he had a nice season and some teams could overpay him. His problem is that his competitiveness sometimes makes him do stupid things, but I think he is a terrific player. I feel he is going to stay in Indy, but if I were the Bulls I would take a hard look at him if they couldn’t snag neither Melo or Love. He would come at a cheaper price and could be the long-term solution to the Bulls’ SG problem.

The GoatParticipantThe Thunder could use him.. and the Pacers could use Reggie Jackson. Not suggesting a straight swap, but just putting a thought out there..

cp5ParticipantIf KG and Pierce go (retire and/or free agency) and if the D.Will wanting to be traded actually occurs, do you think he would fit well with the Nets?
Livingston
Lance
Joe Johnson
Some cheap PF via free agency
Lopez
*I don’t know much about the rest of the roster and salary space but Lance coming home could be interesting*

HitsterParticipantI agree that the Spurs would probably not touch Stephenson but that sort of environment would be what he needs with a strong locker room, excellent coach and a very good Front Office to support him. But he virtually had that at the Pacers of course with a lesser coach but he had Nate MacMillan, Kevin Pritchard, Larry Bird and Donnie Walsh to back up Frank Vogel and he still had issues.
So my worry would be a young team overpays for him and makes him top running mate or even team focal point and it could be a disaster waiting to happen. The Celtics could be the exception here as they do have a strong front office and Brad Stevens as a good young coach might be able to get the best out of Stephenson.
As regards his salary I’d say a realistic value is $8 to $10 million a year as a starting point on a four year deal but other teams may pay more.

PlatypusParticipantWould love to see a sign and trade where he goes to phoenix for Dragic. This idea has probably been said on here before, so i’m not about to take someone elses thunder.
Pacers: Hill can play his natural off the ball while bringing in someone who is more ball dominate and more of a true point than Hill
Dragic – Hill – George – West – Hibbert
Watson – free agent – Copeland – Scola – Mahinmi
Suns: Get a back court player to team with Bledsoe for years to come, with there first pick I would use it on one of the small forwards who could fall; Saric or Hood. With their second pick I would look for someone who either falls, or a 6th man like Hariston, Spencer Dinwiddie, or Tyler Ennis
Bledsoe – Stephenson – Green – Morris – Plumlee
Smith / Draft Pick – Goodwin – Draft Pick – Morris – Len

barbabodomParticipantI don´t know, I just feel that anyone that Spurs pick up would succeed, don´t see they throwing this kind of money if they can (probably) get similar production in a cheaper player

TimberTrollParticipantI think Charlotte runs up the price for Indiana to retain him. I imagine Indiana would go to at least 8 million per year, but I could see Charlotte offering up to 11 million per.
