Russell0WestbrookParticipantWhy is everybody so high on Curry he was a good college play but he was a gun and when coaches started putting athletic guys on him he seemed to struggle with them. He is a good shooter but not a jump shooter and doesn’t create alot of space. I think he will end up being a shooter off the bench i cant really see him going against the like of rondo, rose, cp3, dwill, parker, nelson or kidd just to name a few i think they will dominate him it’s like he went high for being a shooter like reddic he will be a waste of a lottery pick. He would be a smart player off the bench tho. Boobie was a better player than curry and look where he is in his nba career. Did NOT say better scorer better PLAYER and more athletic. Dont be to harsh with the comments

llperezI watched Curry in about 6 games last season at Davidson and I just focused on him the whole game because I wanted to see how he would translate in the pro’s and I was not impressed. He just played my lakers in 2 games and shot a combined 6-22 from the field. He does have a pretty stroke and reads the court well both passing and getting to the right spots. I’m not trying to bash the guy, but I just don’t see him being a very good starting pg.

IndianaBasketballParticipantHe played for Davidson, so he had to shoot a lot. He went from playing off guard his sophomore year to playing point guard his junior year and he did well in my opinion. He averaged a high number of assists and made his teammates (who weren’t that good) look okay. Bob Knight said that Curry was the best passer he’d ever seen.
We have to give him time. This is his rookie season and this is just the pre-season. He has nothing in common with J.J. Reddick. They can both shoot, but that’s where the comparison ends. Boobie Gibson is more athletic and stronger at this point, but doesn’t have the court vision or basketball IQ that Curry has.
I haven’t been as down on Curry as a lot of people have. We all know his limitations. Average athleticism, length and little strength. We all knew he’d struggle defensively versus quicker and stronger players. Most rookies do struggle defensively anyway. I think Curry has shown the ability to handle the ball and get to the rim. He’s also played pretty decent defense at times. What’s stood out the most is his court vision and his ability to find people. I don’t think he’ll be a star, but he’ll be a good player… Definitely more than just a smart player off the bench.

JNixonParticipantI don’t think Steph Curry is all that good. I think he’s a 2nd team player who makes good decisions with the ball and knocks down open shots. He seems like a player that will be limited alot by his frame and athleticism, especially on D and in the dribble drive. He also won’t get alot of room to get off his shots or create off the dribble too much, and I think they should’ve taken Jordan Hill to fill a need and he’ll probably have just as much or more success in the NBA than him.

Russell0WestbrookParticipantI agree with everything you said. I dont see how people are high on curry and not jrue holliday I know he didnt do much at ucla but he’s a stud with alot of potential he played out of position all year philly got a steal. The warriors should have picked B Jennings at leat he has alot of game potential

NYK2010ParticipantCurry probably ends up being an average Guard.
Odd pick by Warriors they have so many guards should’ve drafted a Forward or Center.0 - Posted on: Wed, 10/14/2009 - 3:05pm #221776
quincey hodgeswhy i everyone o down on curry but not saying anything about how bad evans is playing or the fact that holiday isnt even playing nearly as good as curry as a pg? or some of the other rookies who arent doing much and are playing worst then curry..if you get on curry about hi play so far then its only fair to talk about the other rookies who arent doing much correct? also rookie pg’s take time to adjust..dwill was not that good when he played during hi rookie year either…some of ya’ll need to look at some of these rooies preseason before there first year and see how bad they played
0 - Posted on: Wed, 10/14/2009 - 3:15pm #221780
europebasketballHe’s okay but he’s more of a sg because he could score and if he had better athletism he could be a really good player plus the warriors need to trade jackson and ellis and get a point guard or a small forward in order to be a contender for the playoffs.

quincey hodgesyet hes showing everyone he can pass/set people up/ and get them the ball in scoring position but people still wanna doubt hes a pg because he was a scorer in college…hi teammatessand his coach also think he is a pg and the best passer/set up guy on the team. what more does he have to prove that hes a pg unlike evans who has shown o far that he isnt a pg
0 - Posted on: Wed, 10/14/2009 - 3:44pm #221793
JNixonParticipant^You don’t have to be that good to do any of the things you mentioned above Quincey. No one said that he would completely suck, everyone is saying he’s average. No one really doubts that he’s going to be a PG in the NBA, he’s not a true PG but he’s a pretty good passer. I didn’t see him really setting up guys like that though, he really just feeds the open man. There is nothing special about his game in the NBA, except his spot-up shooting and that isn’t a skill that generally makes you to an above average or great PG.

quincey hodgesi see a pretty good pg. which is what his teammates and what don nelson and alot of other teams who were tryna get him or trade to get him(phx was willing to give up amare) and scouts see..ive noticed the only people who arent so sure are some of the people on here which is understand able cuz everyone has a opinion. also someone stated (might have been another fourm) about curry getting punished by a coupel guards namely evan in workouts but i just read on hoophype from the asst coach of the knick that during there workout that curry punished every pg put in front of him including evans

bigballa3jjParticipantyou guys are nuts. boobie gibson a better player than steph curry? gtfo with that crap. gibson CANNOT run a team, while steph can. curry see’s the floor very well and has a very high basketball iq. yes he has his limitations but if he continues to work on getting stronger i don’t think he will have a problem guarding any pg’s.

sheltwon3ParticipantAll rookies have issues with defense and even though rondo is quicker and longer he is also smaller than Curry. Curry will be fine. He has shown he can set people up and we all know he can shoot. He just needs to find his rhthym and slow down some. Reddick is also looking like a solid back up now and his defense was good enough to give Ray Allen issues. Most point guards can not be defended one on one anyway unless they are going against the top defenders because they are top quick and athletic and with the new rules the offense has the advantage.

simos15ParticipantPeople jumped all over me when i first called him a waste of a pick, alot of people changing there tune.
At best he will be a career back up point. I think he will end up in a Steve Kerr type of role, even thats a stretch cause Kerr proved he could shot in the NBA. Curry was a big fish in a small pond last year. He showed he couldnt shoot a good % in the summer league what makes people think he do it in the league.
dont compare to reddick at least he has turned into a hard nosed defender, lets see what happens with this guy.

youngmagParticipantHes a god damn rookie for god sakes no one said he will be the next J-Kidd or next best thing they just said he will be a very good pg which he will end up what he does almost everything good that you would want out of your starting pg he can pass, and score in bunches people knock him about his defense but who on the Warriors plays defense and even knocking him on that is wrong because he gets steals. Thats like Phoenix asking Nash to play defense. Curry will be very effective might not be this year but it will very soon.

AirJuggernautthe next Steve Nash and then they wanted to pair him with Amar’e. Bob Knight called him the best passer he had ever seen (the same guy who coached HOF pg Isiah Thomas in college)
One of the reasons that GSW didn’t get Amar’e is bcuz they wanted to keep Steph. The other reason being that Amar’e said “that they didn’t have enough pieces” to win a championship.
But that is besides the point
the point is that he HAS been hailed as the Next Great Thing
but now there are whispers that he’ll be a good backup?U don’t draft top 10 for “good backups” and that is the truth IMO

marcusfizer21ParticipantNobody is saying he’ll be an All-Star because that might be a little too much… But Steph has a place in the NBA… He’s got heart despite the lack of size and average athletic ability… He has a good stroke and should be OK in terms of scoring though don’t expect a 20ppg… Probably 8-11 ppg… I just think of him as the next Chris Jackson/Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf…

quincey hodgeswow FIZER..I COULD HAVE HIT IT MORE ON THE HEAD WITH THEcomparision with chris jackson..i say a lil lower in the scoring and higher on the passing( monta ellis is alot like chris jackson actually)

McWinningParticipanta couple years ago i was skeptic about how he would do against good tams but when he played against Georgetown he was great he had one of the best defenders in the country in his face on him and he couldn’t stop him even with help. i agree he needs to work on other skills but he is valuable i think Michael Redd would be a good comparison he will be pretty good.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 10/17/2009 - 5:00am #222289
quincey hodgesi see the point youre trying to make but i dont see any comparisions with curry in redd other than being good shooters..thats were it ends though
0 - Posted on: Sat, 10/17/2009 - 5:08am #222290
McWinningParticipantyeah Redd was never great besides shooting i have to agree size will hurt but he can be a pretty good player maybe not quite as good as Redd.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 10/17/2009 - 10:09pm #222452
youngmagParticipantMichael Redd ha the Steve Nash comparison is fair except that Curry can at least get steals..n for you to say Redd was never great us crazy. I think Curry will end up a 18 n 7 type nba player he shoots to well and knows how to move he will learn more especially playing in Golden State with that run and gun offense he was scoring to much in college by himself not to end up a great scorer so I know he will be.
0 - Posted on: Sun, 10/18/2009 - 9:37am #222507
quincey hodgesyeah i think curry will eventually find his stoke..although being a great scorer in college doesnt translate to being a great scorer in the nba alot of times..thats why most of the top corers in college either dont make it to the nba or dont scorer nearly as much in the nba

youngmagParticipantCurry will be like Bibby before the injury just he will end up better than Bibby. If you watched Bibby at Arizona and before he got that injury you will know what I’m talking about. Only thing Curry has different from Bibby is his defense playing the passing lane and the craftiness.

AirJuggernautStephen Curry is Stephen Curry
Mike Bibby is Mike Bibby“You can’t take anything away from him. He can shoot, pass, defend, all of that. He’s got the whole package. He’s better than I thought he was.”
– Monta Ellis, “admitting” that he’s mighty impressed with new teammate (media darling) Stephen Curry.
or was he lying his Mississippi tail off to look better to the media>>>>>While the former Davidson College star continues to be a team leader in dishing out the ball, totaling four assists Saturday along with four rebounds for the Warriors, Curry also drew five fouls and three turnovers and went 0-2 in three-point attempts.
His six points, two layups and a jump shot, came during his appearances in the second and fourth quarters of the preseason game at Sacramento.
Curry’s shooting percentage is now .317 and he’s made 6 of 19 in field goal attempts over the past two games.

It’s not looking good 4 Stephen Curry aka Reddick part 2I ain’t gonna lie Stephen Curry is a media darling but IDK how long its gonna last b4
the Warriors actually want to start WINNING again.317 .317 .317 .317 .317 .317 .317 .317 .317 .317 .317 .317 .317 .317 .317

AirJuggernautI like Stephen Curry. he makes GSW a NBA powrhouse.
Y so serious?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 10/19/2009 - 9:46am #222674
JoeWolf1I think Curry will be a pretty solid pro, he has already worked out with CP3 all summer in North Carolina, and he has all the tools necessary to succeed, he has had growing pains from is soph to junior years in college developing in to more of a pg ( his soph year Davidson’s pg lead the NCAA in assists) and has showed a solid work ethic in improving towards then. He was a big time scorer in college and he has the potential to go off every now and then becasue of his shot, but I think he is fine tuning his game to be more of a point guard and is showing he has the work ethic to do so, will there be growing pains? yes, very few rookie guards shoot over 43% or so, but I think in a couple years he could be a solid high scoring point guard, he is a good defender who knows the passing lanes and has quick hands so he isn’t just an offensive guy. I don’t think he’ll ever be all-star caliber, but I don’t think a 18 ppg 5 apg, 2 spg guy in a few years is that far fetched.

youngmagParticipantI get 2 negatives for comparing him to Bibby? Its true there very similar both shooters who can pass but are not very quick. Regardless people are hating on Curry I know my basketball at least I’m not the idiots sayings Westbrook is better than Rose. Got 2 negatives for making a good comparison now I know this website is full of some fools.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 10/19/2009 - 1:28pm #222737
youngmagParticipantStop comparing him to Reddick no where close just because there shooters that means they play alike? Reddick never ran point all Reddick did was get fed the ball and took most of Dukes jump shots and points.
