Rip255This may sound like an obvious answer, but I think the top 3 in this draft are all "cant-miss". Therefore whoever gets the #3 pick will be getting a steal because usually you can’t be so certain that you’re getting a franchise player at that pick.
Similar to how Dwayne Wade was a steal at #5 simply because there just happened to be a number of equally good prospects in that draft when he would have gone #1 most other years.

Magic JordanParticipantDamien Inglis as a draft and stash guy in the 2nd round. Or even if he comes over now, he obviously won’t shine right away but he has great physical attributes and should be a solid defensive rotation player a few years down the line. I don’t know if that qualifies as a steal since it’s more of a base hit than a home run…. but if you think about it you can’t "steal" when you hit a home run anyways right? Am I right?

capecodderParticipantAlex Kirk of New Mexico may not be drafted and should have stayed in school, but could be a role player for years

JoeWolf1Mitch McGary – If his back is okay, this is a guy who I feel could be a starting caliber center in the NBA. No, not a 18/10 game changer type center, no not the lotto guy many wished he could be, but a bruiser who for the right time could start and give you 12/10 in the right situation. There is no doubt in my mind this dude can rebound in the NBA, and guys that can give you minutes at the 4/5 are valuable.
DeAndre Kane – He’s absolutely worthy of a draft pick, and I think probably a top 35 pick, but his age will hurt his cause. Still, I think he’ll drop to 40-60 or maybe even an undrafted FA, but Kane is a 6’4” combo with NBA level strength, solid athletic ability, and a guy who can flat out get in the lane, post up smaller guards, and use his pivot foot off the drive a la Tony Parker. I think the dude will get minutes next year and a team with a 2nd round pick will look really smart.

aramboneParticipantNurkic could be the best player out of this draft, 22ppg + 10-11 rebounds with great defense. Better motor, stronger, way more efficient version of Cousins.
He already shoots well from the line, and will live there because of his size and scoring ability.
Even his fouls will be an asset. SMACK.
A poor man’s Shaq with better free throw shooting beats a DeRozen clone any day.

FourParticipantI think it could be Lavine. As Rip accurately pointed out a steal can be a top 5 pick if the right guy falls into your lap. So Lavine may not fall far but people have nitpicked him out of the lottery. I can’t say I love the guy and I thought he was a reach when people were talking about him in the 10 range. But if he drops into the 20’s as some are now projecting that could be good value.
