Meditated StatesParticipantNick is looking way better than him. I thought Staus was a good pick for them because he can handle the rock. Should the coach have told Cousins to chill so they could play the better player? Ben is averaging 5 a game and honestly does not have the handle for pick n roll like Nik. To me trading Nik was dumb and he needed more shots. Who will have the better career and why? Did King fumble again and choose the wrong shooting guard?
Nik=14.6ppg, 4 reb, 2.8 dimes
Ben Mac=5ppg,1.9 reb, 1dime
Whats going on here? Lol

ZouldiersParticipantNik is on a better situation than Ben Mac right now. Nik has all the playing time in the world in Philly while Ben Mac is being outplayed by Marco Belinelli in Sacramento. I think if you put Ben Mac in Stauskas place then he will also put up similar stats as well.

trelos6ParticipantPretty much hit the nail on the head. Stauskas is on a terrible Philly team and he has the green light to shoot as often as he wants, and play 30+ mpg.
Ben Mac is in a terrible situation in Sac-town. Wait until his contract expires. As Bill Simmons says, he’ll probably end up on the Spurs and form a dynamic partnership with Kawhi and everyone will be like, where did this guy come from?!?

SlickBouncePassParticipantfrom what i’ve seen is a very smart ballplayer. He knows how to play and usually makes the right pass or is open for the shot because the bigmen in Philly get all the attention and are good about passing the ball out. Philly is def weak on talent and he has free range, but his shot selection is not horrendous. Its just, no expectations, no pressure, just go out and play.
Can Ben Mac shoot? That might be the ultimate difference.
Stauskas, in listening to the opposite team telecast, is being praised a lot, along with the Sixers in general, for playing good system ball but being short on talent (their bench is atrocious). He is being praised for being a very good catch and shooter, and with more confidence and stronger legs as he ages, he’ll get even better.
I think that is what sets him apart, along with his ability to take it to the hole, finish with both hands, and take advantage of playing with two good bigmen. Watch Philly play, they’re a throwback team, with talent, the game is so easy for them. Pass it in, get doubled, pass it out, take the three. Drive to the hole, collapse the defense, look for the big, slam dunk.
So he might be a product of the system, but he’s also knows how to play in that system. He’s very smart, its the most important part of an NBA player.
David Blatt was saying when he was at Princeton, Pete Carrill would say a player is great if "he can see". Thats what sets good players from great players, their ability to see and not have tunnel vision.

adumParticipantI have always felt that Nik had more talent then Ben.
Yes Ben is an elite athlete who can hit the 3 but that’s about all he offers. He hasn’t shown any creativity off the dribble nor has he shown the capability of creating for his teammates.
Nik is an underrated athlete and given a more prominent role in Philly he has shown he’s more then just a shooter and has been attacking defenses off the dribble.
If Ben were in philly I think he would fit the role of what KJ McDaniels had last year. I don’t watch a lot of Kings games but I have never seen Ben be a ball handler in a pick and roll loool.

Jr. ROXASParticipantYup, Ben Mac does not handle the ball well, and that limits his creativity. I think it’s clear Nik has more talent than Ben, poeple were just higher on Ben because he had more "upside" because of his athleticsm.
Not a knock on Ben, because I would still love for him to start for the Kings, but Nik is just a more advanced creator off the dribble. Nik has a little shake to him and is sneaky explosive when he drives while also being in control. He really goes strong to the rim unlike Mac, who often settles for half-hearted takes to the rim or jumpshots. I think McClemore is the better shooter off screens though because of the elevation he has on his jumper,

Jr. ROXASParticipantHonestly, I never saw the hype around Ben Mac especially at its peak where he was projected top 3 on a lot of sites during early games with Kansas.

BiggysmallsParticipantWhy does Mac have to have handles for pick n roll? Like when is he ever going to be put in that situation?
I haven’t watched any Kings basketball this year so maybe he has and I’m the idiot, but if the coach is building an offense around Mac distributing and playing in pick n roll, he’s also an idiot.
I still have faith that McLemore can be a really good player. But I think he’s more of a stud role player than a franchise type player. Think he can be a 14-18 ppg type guy who does his damage off the ball, running off screens, spotting up, cutting and playing in transition. He doesn’t need great handles to play that way.
Then again, maybe his bball IQ isn’t that high and he simply doesn’t know how to play that way. If that is the case, I’d tell him to watch hours of Andrei Kirilenko film. Dude was so fun to watch off the ball with his timing on cuts and ability to play off the ball.

Meditated StatesParticipantGood move and he was more talented than Ben. That can be researched on here and confirmed. Smarter player with more overall talent.
