Star Potential

Who are the top 10 prospects in this draft class in order of star potential. Maybe a better way of putting it would be who has the highest ceiling since we may not get any stars.

- Can McLemore live up to the Ray Allen comparisons?
- Can Noel become an annual DPOY candidate and develop a consistent offensive repertoire?
- Is Oladipo the next Michael Jordan as Dickie V believes? (*Note that I don't agree with Dickie V on most topics.)
- Does Shabazz have the highest ceiling still, living off of both his high school ranking and a solid freshmen year?
- Will Burke carry over his NPOY award into his NBA career and remain the top player from this draft class?
- Can a surprise player step in and become that star player, say maybe Ledo, McCollum, Olynyk, etc.

Let me know what you think. I'm interested in seeing how the community values everyone. I know my top 10, but I'm going to wait and see what everyone else says first to see if you guys can persuade me into thinking differently.

Highest Ceiling

Don't base it off star potential than. Base it off highest ceiling.

Star?

1. Ricky Ledo- What?! Yes, I think he has the highest ceiling. He could also probably be #1 on a list of guys who most likely won't reach his potential. He is naturally talented, highly skilled, has size, and above average athleticism. Can stroke it from deep and attack the baskets well. Creates his own shot. Ceiling: Carmelo Anthony

2. Noel- I see him being Tyson Chandler or better, if he can add some weight and stay healthy. Defensive nightmare.

3. Marcus Smart- Not the decision maker that Jason Kidd is just quite yet but I think he can be a similar player.

4. Giannis Adetokoubo- This draft is really bad and remember, highest ceiling. Hey. Ainge compared him to Pippen.

5. Ben McLemore- I want to put him down on the list because I just don't think he will ever be that great. His inconsistency, offensive inabilities, and demeanor scare me. Although, he is still an incredible athlete who is capable of lighting it up if he gets going and has potential as lock down defender. Ceiling: Ray is pretty good, I would say John Starks

6. Otto Porter- Tayshaun Prince is a good comparison, I think a little bit of an upgrade over Prince.

7. Anthony Bennett- I feel like I should put him higher but scared about defense, rebounding, health, and positioning. Ceiling: Larry Johnson

8. Victor Oladipo- Poor man's Wade. Should also be higher if mentioned with Wade, but I don't see greatness in him, despite his outstanding work ethic and personality. Perhaps one of the safest picks in this draft.

9. Archie Goodwin. Incredible athlete that got the rim pretty easy this year despite all the woes.

10. So many popular players not mentioned yet like Shabazz. Zeller, Len or MCW, but I am going with Trey Burke- CP3 he will never be, but could be a very solid NBA point guard. Size/athleticism put him down the list but could be special.

Honorable Mention: Jamaal Franklin, Adreian Payne, Lorenzo Brown, GRIII, CJ McCollum, Kelly Olynyk, Isaiah Austin, KCP, McGary,

In terms of

physical attributes to compete on a star level there are a few guys but to me it gonna be more dependant on wht teams pick a player.

Oladipo- improvement rate says to me there is a chance he could be a top 10 sg down the line. thast a satr to e espacially if hes on my team. I also feel the same about Smart and Goodwin in a few years I really think can be special.

I wanna say Bazz cause hes a knwon gunner so that rep and playing style will follow him. I got high hope for Bennett too. Im probably one of the few that like thhis Draft potential. I just think the talents there the stars may not shine from day one thats all, imo

No Stars In This Draft

In my opinion, this draft does not have any potential NBA stars. Having said, we know there will always be surprises.

The best I can say about this draft is the fact there are a group of players whom we know with a lot of confidence will be very solid NBA players over the next 10 years. Here are my top five for this category. Note, I'm not saying they are the five best players, just those guys whom I believe will be very good players for years to come, cause no problems, and will fit into the team concept big time.

1. Oladipo from Indiana
2. Burke from Michigan
3. Noel from Kentucky (on the defensive end)
4. Zeller from Indiana
5. Withey from Kansas (Defense and Rebounding)

And my number one sleeper is Doug McDermott from Creighton, whom I think will be a solid starter on the right team. He won't be a star, but if certain type of team is looking for a guy who can be an excellent offensive weapon while providing rebounding, I would draft him after the five above are off the board.

This draft reminds me of the

This draft reminds me of the 2006 draft, right down to no one being really thrilled about the first pick. I honestly think Adetokoubo has a legit shot at being the first pick like Bargs swept in last couple months in 06'.

That being said, I think you'll have your lower level All-Stars or boarderline guys like Aldridge, Gay, Roy, Bargs, Millsap but I doubt there's a Rondo hidden in this bunch.

I think Trey Burke could be one of those level guys, as well as McLemore, Otto Porter, C.J. McCollum and Marcus Smart. I think Bazz, Noel, Zeller, MCW and Oladipo will start the majority of thier careers and I think of the high picks, Anthony Bennet has the biggest chance of being considered a bust.

I think Ledo could be a Rondo; not a lot of exposure, but has the cocky attitude and competitiveness to thrive despite a likely low draft position.

Also, if Myck Kabongo declares I really like him as a pro going forward; especially on a team with scorers/shooters already like New Orleans.

Also, Roy isn't a low-level All-Star, during the brief time he was healthy he was a bona fide star, and the heir apparent to the mantle of best SG in the NBA.

Thanks Joe Wolf

There was one more name I wanted to add to my list of five above and couldn't remember who it was. But thanks to you Joe, I now remember it was Otto Porter. He's another guy in whom I have complete confidence that he will be a team player, cause no problems, and become a solid pro for the next ten years.

I'll try to make a top ten

I'll try to make a top ten list.

1. Nerlens Noel: Great physical attributes, maybe he will develop his post game over time.

2. Otto Porter: If all goes well, he could be a big scorer.

3. Michael Carter-Williams: If he gets a jump shot, he could be scary

4. Marcus Smart: Tons of raw talent.

5. CJ McCollum: Tremendous handle and scoring ability. If he develops as a PG, watch out.

6. Mitch McGary: Could become a good post scorer in time and has the overall game to be an outstanding pro if he puts it all together.

7. Victor Oladipo: Could be a tremendous slasher in the NBA, especially if he remains a consistent spot-up shooter. Plus, he is a really smart player on the court who knows how to play.

8. Anthony Bennett: Tons of offensive talent and room to grow on the defensive end.

9. Ben McLemore: Could live up to Ray Allen comparisons.

10. Trey Burke: Perhaps he could turn into a lesser version of Chris Paul.

I want to put him down on the record because I just don't think he will ever be that excellent. His inconsistency, unpleasant inabilities, and conduct frighten me. Although, he is still an amazing sportsman who is able of lighting style it up if he gets going and has prospective as secure down defensive player. Ceiling.....
