It’s early and there’s only a small sample size, but…

Two athletic and physical wing players started on different mock drafts this year, at least on this site, and now they are within a few picks within each other.  Statistically, Winslow has been better both from a general numbers and efficiency standpoint.  Johnson has been the more highly touted prospect, but it’s not like he is having a bad season either like Kelly Oubre.

They both seem to have the ability and potential to lock down both wing positions at the next level and maybe even cover point guards.  Both have jump shots which could stand to improve but they do not seem too broken like MKG.  They both play on very talented teams where they are not the only scorer on their respective teams.  The only difference is Winslow will be at most the clear-cut number three option the entire season behind Okafor and Cook, while Johnson could break out as the offensive focal point among Hollis-Jefferson and Ashley.

Is there any difference and who is the better prospect?  Are both pretty much-one-and done candidates if they maintain this level of play?  Who do you prefer and why?  And how would they stack up in the NBA where the number of athletic young wings seems to be filling up faster than any other position?

i like both, but i prefer winslow. i think he’s the better defender, better playmaker with the higher iq and more PnR potential. imo, winslow has the more mature approach and more well-rounded game. stan accomplishes a lot of what he does with sheer force and aggression. he forces the issue a lot and can play with blinders on when he gets in scoring mode. even defensively he tends to reach and gamble more whereas justise plays more solid, not giving the handler much of anything.

I have only seen highschool tape of the two. But Johsnon clearly stands out as more skilled off the dribble. I’m not sure who is the better defender. I think more people give the nod to Winslow on D; although I’ve heard Ron Artest comparisons for Stanley recently. Johnson has an inch on Winslow in height, and also an inch and a half in wingspan. Right now I like Johnson more, becuase he was much more skilled off the bounce in high school, and also has better measurements. Really need to watch them play in college, obviously, and soon!

At this point I’ll take Stanley Johnson…  He’s more of a fluent athlete and even his jumper is smooth…  Justice get killed on PnR screens because he stays with his man all the time…  His moves are a little sloppy and he has this hitch in his shot…   Granted I only watched 2 games of Duke this year and one game of Arizona…  Justice has a ton of space to operate in while Arizona is cluttered…

Passing: both are about the same IMO and one instance where Justice had a wide open Okafor for the dump pass and instead got called for the charge against Furman…  I also seen Stanley try to go one on 3 and end up falling and turning it over…  But both had some good passes as well…  Just not enough to go off of…

Defense: I haven’t seen Stanley over commit too much and he tends to put pressure on the offense and keep them in front…   Justice, I just haven’t seen the lock down defense so far…  IMO Cook is playing better man to man defense so far…  As far as pressuring the ball…  Winslow just really stay with his man, I mean that’s good but not something that I would say is lock down worthy…

As similar as two prospects can get. It’s tough but I’ll take Stanley Johnson because of size. Im pretty sure he’s 6’8.
