    San Antonio:

Alonzo Gee is the same player he was at Alabama, with some improvements. A big-time athlete with the raw ability to put the ball in the hole, even though he is streaky and scores in bunches. Poor ball-handling ability, but still a good slasher because of his 1st step and athleticism. Has potential on D, but he needs more experience. He’s going to have to earn a niche in the NBA as a transition score who plays D, ala Dahntay Jones or Ronnie Brewer. The Spurs like him though, so he has a very good chance to make their roster and develop. Potential is there.

I’ve always felt Curtis Jerrells could make a roster, even though he’s not a true PG really despite being 6’1”. Still, he’s an aggressive slasher. Just needs to dictate pace better.

Who the HELL gave Josh Lomers big sorry ass a Summer League invite??

    Lakers:

Derrick Caracter has improved his conditioning and athleticism/quickness with his loss of weight, but he still gets winded and is liable to foul on both ends (a few questionable calls?). His feet are amazing for a guy his size, and he is a quick enough leaper to make up for his lack of height on both ends somewhat. Only decent rebounder in the SL. Great passer. Defense needs improvement, but he’s shown the willingness to bang. I think he can figure in the end of their rotation.

Devin Ebanks will score in bunches and then disappear. His jump shot has way more range and accuracy than anyone would think. Good mid-range game and passing ability. Hes not the slasher he could be, as his handle needs some improvement (even though it’s better than I thought). He needs experience to be a great defender he could be on the ball, but his length allows him to make up for a good bit of his mistakes. He’s a little raw, but I swear he’s not worse than Luke Walton.

Gerald Green looked alright, and may be fighting for a roster spot too. Has shown the handle, nice shooting touch, and of course the athleticism that make him so exciting. Still, he needs major work on his basketball smarts and he’s not exactly unselfish.

D.J. Strawberry is a very good athlete and slasher, and he’s a good defender. But he is the definition of WILD. Way too wild for a PG.

Although couple things I would point out. I don’t think Caracter is just an ‘decent’ rebounder. He’s actually been pretty good in all of the games he’s played thus far. I think he’s averaging a double/double so far (correct me if I am wrong). It probably has to do a lot more with him being winded like you pointed out. Sure, he’s lost a considerable amount of weight, but that doesn’t mean he can run marathons now. He has a long ways to go, and his flaws are all something that can be worked on over time.

Ebanks has been very, very impressive! I’m sure Mitch and company had a huge smile on their face when he fell all the way down to the Lakers in the 2nd round. This has been mentioned many times already, but he is an exact clone of a Trevor Ariza (whom the Lakers loved) but is 2 inches taller, and has a longer wing span and is a lot better than Ariza was at the same time in their career. His potential is very high IMO.

Gerald Green looked very timid the first couple of games with the Lakers, but in the past 2 games he’s looked more and more comfortable. That doesn’t mean he’s going to make the preseason roster though. He’s always been an enigma, and still is even in the summer league level. Gerald has so much to offer in terms of ability and athleticism, but for some reason he still hasn’t been able to put it all together even with being a pro for 5 years now. And to actually think some Laker fans wanted him drafted during draft night rather than Andrew Bynum.

D.J. Strawberry has potential to make a career in the NBA as a bench player. He played well with the Suns during his breif stint and showed that he can be a pest on defense and force some turnovers. He’s improved with his ball handling and PG skills, but he’s such a tweener, and the NBA isn’t the right place to work on your PG skills. The league has way too many and more natural talented PG’s that a player like DJ will be left out, and that’s unfortunate.

I wish the Wizards kept Gee. They signed him to two 10-day contracts ad he really impressed. Even Flip Saunders said he wanted to keep him, but the Wizards let him go. Another reason Ernie Grunfeld should be fired.

I’ve always liked Alonzo Gee. Back during his Alabama days when he was teammates with Jermareo Davidson, Richard Hendrix and Ronald Steele… I thought he was the best on the team and had the most pro potential. He’s always been built like a tank and had crazy athleticism.

I think he’ll be a good young player for San Antonio.
