Sources: NCAA to suspend Texas guard Myck Kabongo for season
This does suck but Kabongo should definitely come back next year. It's looking like Texas will likely land Julius Randle, so Kabongo, along with Randle and Cameron Ridley, plus with all their solid freshman and sophmore this year gaining more experience this could be a very very dangerous team next year.
If he plans to enter the NBA Draft, he needs to go sign a contract with a Euro team.. Dont sit around for 9 months and be forgotten about.. Regardless, sucks for a Texas team that needs all the help they can get his year.
Things happen for a reason. Take your &$#%#&@!, get out of Texas and Follow Wiggins hopefully to FSU. My man you will join a great player in the making and y'all can put a stamp on the Map for Canada, especially in the NCAA. Look at the logic you will have no problem playing right away next year.
Since he hasn't played, I wonder what the transfer rules would be.
That'd be a good idea if he'd be immediately eligible for the start of next year.
I'm talking about him leaving Texas now to play for another school next yr, not playing again this yr. Since he hasn't played this yr, would he still have to sit out a transfer yr or sit out the first semester next yr at a different school?
Nobody knows the answer to this?
of a suspension. Sit a year, due to transfer, then sit for the remainder of your suspension. Then play, if you qualify.
If you think they would allow the suspension to happen during the transfer-sit period, remember, this is the NCAA. They wouldn't let Peter Jurkin's legal guardian give him a cell phone because he bought an IU sticker ten years ago. http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/66502/ncaas-in...
He wouldn't be transferring out of a suspension or even trying to. He would serve his suspension, sit out this yr, then resume his college career next season at a different school. Remember, he hasn't played at all this season. Would he still need to serve a transfer-sit year if he didn't play this yr?
if they would waive the transfer-sit out year if he served the suspension this year and then transfered? My guess would be no. I assume he is enrolled at UT this year.
They waived the transfer rule for Penn State football players this year, but that was an exceptional case not of their making.
Kabongo lied to the NCAA, allegedly, on top of accepting benefits. They won't give him any special treatment like that.
I'm more so asking if a transfer-sit year would even be required if he didn't play for them at all this yr. I don't even know the specifics of the suspension just that it's "for the rest of the season." I haven't read anything about a specific time frame.
Like, if he were to leave Texas today, maybe he'd just have to sit out the first month like Birch, Jamal Branch, Jabari Brown, etc maybe even less since he didn't play a single game unlike those guys.
Myck Kabongo, Cory Joseph, Tristan Thompson. These guys happen to have a lot in common, interestingly they're all from the GTA. Also of note they all play for or played for Texas. Another thing that strikes me is that Kabongo allegedly received improper benefits from agent Rich Paul who happens to be Lebron James' agent and wait for it..... the agent of Cory Joseph and Tristan Thompson. I think this game at Texas has been going on for a while and Kabongo is just the first one to get caught. All these kids should be receiving benefits in my opinion, seeing as how the schools they play for definitely do. Sucks that he had to be a fall guy for the NCAA, because there must be an inordinate amount of players receiving the same "improper benefits" across the nation.

I think he's headed to pros in 2013, but due to his inability to play out the year, I think he goes in the mid/late 2nd.
Hometown Raps would likely scoop him up.
that would be awesome, but then again we took quincy acy instead of the obvious pick quincy miller so doubt it. most likely, he will be the pick just after ours.
Man I feel for him, hopefully he keeps his head up, I don't think he should leave to get picked in second round, should come back for his junior year with a chip on his shoulder while working on his jumper in the meantime
he really could improve his stock if he returns next season. Texas has a nucleus that could contend in the big 12 next season, AND he has alot to prove after his just OK Fr season. i didnt see an NBA ready guard in 2011-2012

Well, since he apparently lied to the NCAA, it went from 3-10 games to a full season. This sucks, was really looking forward to seeing him this season. Guess he would be able to play next season, just not this one. Will he stay or go? Either way, not the decision I was hoping for in the case of Myck Kabongo.
