Some of ya'll dont know basketball!!!!
Wouldn't that be a personal opinion though?
So you're saying you can't be considered the best game even if you're game was overall better than a game that's a rivalry?? So if Boston vs Lakers comes down to a last shot even though it wasn't a great game it is automatically considered better than Chi vs the heat that comes down to the last shot and was a close better game overall because its not the rivalry or has the history that Lakers vs Celtics have.
Ok I'll take that its my opinion that i judge games by how good it is over all plus last seconds over if its a rivalry with history that wasn't a great overall game. Whats funny during the UK vs UNC game just about everyone on here was praising how good of a game it was every single minute of it but the Duke UNC game no one was praising how great of a game was, they were praising the last couple of minutes and mostly Austin Rivers but no one was saying " wow this is a great game" and if Rivers doesn't hit that shot it would be even less talk about it.
Ive asked people what makes this a great game, the same answer is the history and rivalry but no one could come up with parts through out the game that made it so great, just the last second shot and Rivers performance. Should things/games be consider the greatest because the history of the two teams or because it is actually the greatest game?
Like a boxing match that is OK and one is winning until the 12th round and then the other boxer knocks the won winning on the score cards out and all of a sudden the whole fight is considered great, even though only the last round was very good
Here is the reason that UNC and Duke was a better game:
It was a better game!
A good game is not about having the most NBA talent, it is about excitement and sometimes even the unexpected. People are not saying that the players in UNC and Duke are better than the ones on Kentucky. Indeed, I feel Kentucky could easily be better than either team. But, the way the game played out with Duke was super exciting.
Kentucky against North Carolina was a fantastic game. Kentucky deserved to win, that Anthony Davis block was awesome. The player of the game was more than likely Mike Kidd-Gilchrist, he was great. Still, when John Henson just stood there when Davis swatted the hell out of him, it was a tad disappointing. I truly felt that Indiana versus Kentucky was a better game because of the ending.
I guess that a game does indeed have a beginning, middle and end. Maybe in that case, North Carolina versus Kentucky was quite exciting in the middle portion. But, the ending tends to stick out. That Austin Rivers shot, with his team being down the entire second half, was awesome. I truly dislike Duke, and think that it was awesome. I was cheering for Kentucky against Indiana, but Christian Watford's last second shot, also awesome.
It is really all about preference. You cannot tell someone how to like a basketball game. I think you are fighting a losing battle. We get it, you are a big Kentucky fan. They are the #1 team in the nation and are playing amazing basketball. They have more NBA talent than Duke by a nice portion, probably more than North Carolina as well.
The Duke versus UNC game had a much better ending, which is what has made it a better game than even the incredible clash with Kentucky and UNC. It being on UNC's home court also probably played a factor. Anthony Davis' block on Henson was fantastic, but Rivers shot, even if it was poorly defended, was ice cold. He lived up to subzero with that one. This post is just sour grapes in a situation that really does not call for it.
obviously your opinion is biased as you're a uk fan.
does it matter that the two teams were ranked higher? nope
how about more college talent? nope
more nba talent? nope
and there was no last second shot no one scored for like the last minute of the game
where as duke unc
had a freshman put the team on his back
an actual last second buzzer beater
the best rivalry in college basketball
the team that won fought back on the road
and how can the unc uk game have good d but unc was in the other game and have bad d? come on son
But you're complaining about an opinion. To me, Duke vs UNC was the game of the year because I'm a Duke fan, AND it had some awesome momentum swings. The Rivers-Barnes back and forth was AMAZING.
i'm a UK fan and i can be objective when given a legit reason. Miketvdon gave a very legit reason and from that perspective i can understand. Personally ,like he said, a great game to me is having a great beginning middle and end not just a great end. Like how movies are considered the best by beginning, middle, and end, not just the end.
In reality there have been better games this year than the UK,UNC game and the UNC vs Duke game, but opinion doesn't have to be reality
SON, cut it out, that is your opinion. maybe for some people a comeback led by a freshman on a way more talented team is more historic and exiting than a a game going back and forth between elite talented teams. its your opinion, i understand
I think because of everything that happened in the game and also the game History come into play. Also you have a freshmen, son of an NBA coach who also attended make a last second shot over another potential lottery pick. I think you factor the hype and the outcome and that game had lots of scoring. It was a game that could have gone either way, it makes it a game of the year contender. There may have been better games but none with this amount of history and pressure. Austin Rivers is probably one and done now for sure and if he misses that shot maybe he come back. Nba scout were definitely at that game.
Sports and movies are different experiences because you watch movies a few times over most of the time. You know the lines by heart and ect. In sports most people only watch the game ONCE, therefore the most important part of that is going to be the last thing they remenber which is going to be the last thing they see of the game which is going to be the end of the game. It's easier to remenber that Austin River's buzzer beater then the back and forth play of the UK-UNC game. Plus UK is the most talented team in the nation and won, that's never as fun as the underdog winning on a buzzer beater from their star freshman with his Hall of Fame dad watchin in the crowd nonetheless.
it's all opinion so nobody can have a right answer. I though UK vs. Indiana was the best game, but that's just my opinion, there is no right answer.
best game i saw was stanford vs oregon state. 4 overtimes, great back and forth play, came down to the last shot rimming out at the buzzer. But obviously hype and how high the teams are ranked is important as well and thus stanford/oregon state and numerous other games around the country wont live up to duke/unc in most people eyes.

This is obvious after seeing some people say the UNC vs Duke was the game of the year. Explain how a game that had UNC winning most of it is the game of the year? A game of the year is a close game down to the last second. There have been games between teams that had more excitement and a last second shot but the teams weren't Duke vs UNC its not considered the game of the year. How is this game better than UK vs UNC...lets see
Two higher ranked teams, check
More college talent , check
More NBA talent, check
Last second shot, check
Good offense
Good defense
Close game all the way down to the last second, check
UNC VS Duke
not as high ranked teams
less college talent
less NBA talent
big lead by a team for a good portion of the game
bad defense
last second shot
This is the reason i say some of y'all don't know basketball. The last couple of minutes and seconds was great, before that the game really wasn't all that great overall. A top game means a top whole GAME, not just the last couple of minutes or seconds.
