So, I am becoming more and more convinced that Tyreke Evans might be the guy for Memphis. Now, they might not take him #2 since they could probably swap with Minnesota and take Evans at #6 (assuming Minny wants to snag Rubio) but if I were the Grizzlies I wouldn't take a chance. I would just take the guy I want and move forward. With the amount of players who strong arm the Grizz (Steve Francis, Ricky Rubio) it might be smart to take the "homegrown" kid who might be tempted to stay with the franchise in the future. Plus, I think that he could be a very unique fit with Mayo and Gay. Anyway, if Memphis takes Evans the Top 10 could go like this:
#1 - Griffin
#2 - Evans
#3 - Rubio
#4 - Jrue
#5 - Thabeet
#6 - Jennings
#7 - Curry/DeRozan/Flynn/Harden?
#8 - Curry/DeRozan/Flynn/Harden?
#9 - Hill/Flynn/DeRozan/Harden?
#10 - Dejuan Blair
I think that Milwaukee is going to take Blair, BPA or not. He just seems like a great fit with Skiles (imagine having Skiles whip his ass into shape every season and not having to worry about his weight issues) and with Charlie V leaving.
Now, that means that potentially DeRozan, Harden, or Hill could fall out of the Top 10...with Harden being the most likely candidate on this board. Especially if Evans going #2 (and 3 PG's going Top 4) starts a frenzy of PG picks (since the talent pool is getting smaller, faster). Flynn seems to be HIGH on a lot of teams draft boards and Curry also seems to be moving up in the world. The reason I am most interested in this is because the Bulls are "supposedly" trying to move up 5 spots to New Jersey's #11 (for #16 and #26), PG is the ONLY position that they don't need, and so many teams trying to trade OUT of the draft.
Is it possible that Harden, Hill, or DeRozan could fall out of the Top 10? 3 potential All-Stars in a fairly weak draft? I mean, I know that it's possible, I think that it's actually going to happen.
Who do you think will fall out of the Top 10 on Thursday who just a month ago it would have seemed CRAZY talk?
harden will not fall out of top ten id be surprised if he dropped out of the top 5
yea i agree, DeRozan certainly could fall out of the top 10, Hill probably not, and Harden DEFINITELY not
Scott- out of those list of players Blair won't go top 10. Jrue might not either. Everyone else is pretty much a lock to go top 10.
See, if I had to pick a mock based on my views on the Top 10 I would tend to agree with you Gatorheels. I don't know why someone would take Jrue Top 10 either. But, it seems that there are so many differing opinions on the PG's in this class that it might just boil down to individual workouts for teams behind closed doors (which we don't get to see).
I disagree on Blair though. The more I look at him, the more I think that Milwaukee will take him at #10. After watching the guys that Skiles succeeds with while he was here in Chicago, I think that Blair seems like a perfect fit I don't think that it's crazy to see him starting at PF, with Bogut at C, Jefferson at SF, Redd at SG, and Sessions at PG. It seems like the best situation for the Bucks to grab a starter, at a position of need, with a hard working, Skiles type of guy. I don't know if anyone else fits that description for Milwaukee. I don't see why the Bucks would take a PG (like this mock says) if they can lock up Sessions long term. I think that he has a huge future ahead of him. Of course, with the way the Bucks were just DECIMATED by injury last season maybe Blair's knee surgeries (although they were in High School) could scare them off.
So, if Jrue does go Top 10 or someone else that I didn't mention goes Top 10...who do you see dropping that would have been a surprise just a couple of weeks ago. I think that DeRozan is the most likely guy to fall to #11 or worse since he has more question marks (although maybe A LOT more upside).
Do you agree? I think that you and I have agreed in the past about Jrue, I could be mistaken though. I don't understand how he could be rated so high based on performance. I think that Top 10 guys that end up being successful in the NBA have better college careers (even though it was only a 1 season "career") than Jrue had. I did see one "NBA executive" say that he thinks that UCLA's program (and Ben Howland in particular) might just be a situation where really good players don't have an opportunity to do their personal best. That same "NBA executive" says that he understands that a college coach like Ben Howland might be tempted to limit how much he designs an offense around a possible one-and-done player and focus more on developing an entire team game. I just don't understand how Jrue couldn't have done just a little bit better, but hell what do I know? He could end up being the best player from this entire draft class down the road. I would be surprised, but I don't think that my jaw would unhinge and fall to the floor.
I don't think that he REALLY will (Harden falling out of the Top 10) it just appears that he COULD. I mean, I could easily see him going #3, which is the most likely (I have it on my mock anyway). It just seems like I haven't heard GREAT things about him, except that he tested well at the combine. I think Harden will be VERY GOOD, maybe not great but very good. Just looking at the teams in the Top 10, I don't think that they can all be counted on to do the expected thing (sometimes with good results and sometimes with bad results) on draft night. I also have seen some teams (New Jersey, New York, Boston, Portland) do some pretty dramatic things over the last few seasons (draft night included) that have completely changed over their whole roster. I don't think I've ever seen NBA teams taking as many drastic chances before as some have the last couple of seasons. Plus, there seems to ALWAYS be a huge surprise on draft night where some guy gets taken in the lottery that nobody expected. Also, there are guys (like Mario Chalmers) who just drops like a rock for no apparent reason.
I guess I don't have a clue how this draft will work out since after #1 it is such a crap shoot. Strange things could happen, I'm excited. Even if we aren't talking about All-Stars here. I love seeing who falls into the mid-teens who ends up being an absolute steal. Could be DeRozan falling out of the Top 10 who ends up being a 10-time All-Star.
I like Jrue a lot actually. I think he should be a lottery pick. I do feel UCLA held him back based on their style of play & they were loaded with senior players. I was just basically thinking that Holiday may fall out of the top 10 now because it appears he is being outshined a little bit by other PGs in workouts. I don't think the Bucks will pick Blair for a couple of reasons: 1. His injuries have scared them away 2. In order to pick Blair that means that will have to pass up a guy like Holiday or Jennings or Flynn which I just don't see them doing. I think they would go with the option that has more upside. Personally I really belive the Bucks are going to let Sessions & Villanueva both go. With the 10th pick I predict they will take the best PG available. Then in free agency they will sign a PF like Glen Davis. Just my guess.
Yeah, I don't see Harden or Hill going out of the top 10, but I mean who thought that Bayless was going to fall to 11 last year?? I don't think anyone.. And what about Darell Arthur?? He was supposebly supposed to be a lottery pick last year and he fell in the late 20's.. Anything can happen in the draft.. I'm pretty sure that it won't happen to Hill or Harden because imo they are each a top 5 pick (harden 3, hill 5)
