The Rockets had an awesome draft night, with Sam Dekker falling to them at 18, and Montrezl Harrell falling to them in the second round.

Then they signed Christian Wood, who went undrafted.

With the release of Chuck Hayes, the Rockets have cleared space for Harrell and Wood.

Great draft value in the first, second, and beyond.

Celtics are somehow remembered as draft night losers, because Charlotte turned down Danny Ainge’s trade offers. But tell me again how adding Rozier, RJ Hunter, and Jordan Mickey in one night was a below average haul. LOL. One of draft night’s clear winners, even if media draft grades ranked them lower than some team that "nailed it" with their sole late 2nd round pick.

There’s a whole lot of NBA ready rookies this year, and the Rockets and Celtics got a bunch of them. Christian Wood isn’t ready, but he does have great potential.

Who else had a sneaky good draft night?

The Knicks drafting Hernangomez in the second round could be a major sneaky victory, as could Jerian Grant in exchange for Hardaway Jr.

Indiana might have had just about the best draft night in the league, getting Myles Turner and Joe Young. And boy did Indiana need a big draft night after losing their 3 best big men.

The Raptors got a couple elite perimeter defenders in Delon Wright and Norman Powell. Powell’s basement is looking like Tony Allen.

And Golden State probably hit a triple with Kevon Looney. All he needs is a year of development and recovery from hip surgery.

Did I miss any sneaky good draft nights?

The Jazz had a sneaky bad draft night. They wanted Kaminsky but Charlotte was apparently on drugs that night, and took him at #9, over the Boston offer.

Took Trey Lyles….who just doesn’t have an NBA-Level game.

Nonetheless, just like a teenage girl posting selfies on instagram, the Jazz just need another year or so to blossom and they’ll be right at the top of their game.

i disagree that picking Lyles was a poor pick and that he doesn’t have an NBA game .  Lyles is extremely skilled for a 6’10 player, he is a smart player and will earn more and more minutes as the season goes on, not many players his size can do as many things as he can.  Lyles showed he can pass very well, he has a very good mid range jumper, even though he didn’t shoot that well last year from 3, he showed he has the range ( he shot 4 for 7 his last SLG), he has good handles and can even be used in the pick and roll as the ball handler, which the Jazz plan to use. Average rebounder, but smart about it, he can play 3 positions and I can see the Jazz using him like GS uses Green from the high post.  He needs to get stronger and be able to play tougher and more aggressive but I think that will come with time and hitting the weights. I really like what Lyles brings to the game and would have taken him over Kaminsky, time will tell but like Kevin O’conner said when the Jazz drafted Hayward, let’s see what he looks like in 3 or 4 yrs, with Hayward that proved pretty good. I think we can expect the same from Lyles !!

Man I dont see what you’re telling me.

Using Trey Lyles as a PnR ballhandler? Naah.

Comparing his role to Draymond Green – hmmm, optimistic. Green plays a LOT of roles.

You say good mid range jumper but not good from 3pt range. Average Rebounder and doesnt play tough…

What I saw in college and SL left me underwhelmed.

Hes the guy who most benefitted from going to Kentucky and boosting his draft stock.

I’ll say I never thought Bobby Portis would fall to us that late in the 1st… We have Noah, Gasol, Niko and Taj… but I mean, you can’t just pass on him at that point in the draft.

I was surprised draft night, but a happy surprise.

FYI, I don’t know if this would be considered "sneaky" since the Bulls got good draft grades from the pick.

The cavs got one of the best international players after trading down. Could en up being a great rotation player, Cedi Osman. Agreed with the op on the Celtics but where they able to sign Rozier?

First rounders are easy to sign. It’s the second rounders that are a problem. But the Celtics were able to sign Jordan Mickey, by giving him #22 first round level money.

The Rockets are still trying to sign Harrell, who has the same agent as Tristan "30 bazillion dollars or I walk" Thompson.

The Knicks had the sneakiest overall offseason, so much so that it’s only just now sinking in for me.

Porzingis was the sneaky best pick at 4, trading Hardaway for Grant was a good move, and signing Robin Lopez, Kyle O’Quinn, Aaron Afflalo, and Derick Williams were all quiet but good moves, moves that all work together on the court.

I think the Knicks snuck right back into the thick of the fight for the 5-8 playoff seeds.

I suspect they’ll make the playoffs over teams that got more attention this summer.

I actually agree with you on this.  Most people peg them as a bottom 5 lottery team but I don’t see it.  If Melo is healthy and with their new additions they are definitely a playoff  team in the east.  Everybody pegs Porzingis as a prospect who is years away… And while he might be years away from reaching his full potential, he will be able to contribute and play valuable rotation minutes from day one.  He’s been playing pro ball.

I dont know if it was sneaky, but they ended up with a future building block at 11 with Myles Turner. Then in the second round added Joseph Young who I think can be ready to play, and they nabbed Rakeem Christmas in a post draft trade which netted them a big who is ready to step in and bang from day one. I dont think they had a good of a night in terms of value that the Celtics and Rockets had, but they did well with what they had
