Smoothest NBA players, by position, of all time.
My definition of smooth is a player that played the game with a sense of effortlessness but were also clearly playing at a very high level. It is not that they were not playing hard (they did). It is just that they did not look like they were playing hard. They not only produced but did so with a style that, IMO, you are born with, not taught.
I was hard pressed to find more current players to add, but am sure they are out there.
PG: Kenny Anderson
SG: George Gervin
SF: Jamal Wilkes
PF: Sam Perkins
C: Akeem Olajuwon
Ray Allen at the 2, effortless shooting stroke and an explosive athlete back in the day...
seems like lefties are just smoother for some reason
I would have Chris Mullin on the bench.
Walt Clyde Frazier was toooooooo smooth.
Earl The Pearl Monroe
James Worthy and Clyde Drexler were pretty smooth as well.
Michael Jordan made things look a tad bit too easy at time as well.
Sorry but I can't agree on your list. AI always seemed to run for his life on the court and that's not my definition of smooth. And with Dirk and TD you can always see how much work and sweat is put on in their games that it doesn't seem effortless but you just can see that all the stuff is trained a million times which is different to look effortless for me.
CP3 and Rondo seem to always play very smooth imo. You always have the feeling that they can go to another speed level when they want to, always 2 more gears left. Especially Rondy seems to raise his level of play anytime he wants to without that it looks like he is trying to hard like most of the rest of the league.
James Harden seems to always play under control too. It doesn't look like he is trying very hard to play his level of ball.
(Early) Chris Webber is my definition of smooth for a big guy.
Walt Clyde Frazier
Earl The Pearl Monroe
Hakeem The Dream Olajuwon
Brandon Roy , ray Allen , big game James ,Kobe Hakeem
PG - Walt Frazier
SG- Ray Allen
SF- Clyde Drexler
PF - George Gervin
C - Hakeem Olajuwon
off the bench
SG- Brandon Roy
SG- Earl Monroe
SF- James Worthy
Paul Peirce, definition of smooth. To me smooth is deception.
Ha ha, the truth is definetly smooth!
How about J-Smooth? Not all time but right now.
James harden and Manu Ginobli. Also Time Duncan and Al Jefferson.
breaking back boards is not smooth Vlade " fake the funk on a nasty dunk" Divac was smooth
TMac in his prime always had that smooth feel to his game. Some of the stuff he did was so difficult...it would look so easy until you saw the slow motion and realized he just scored a ridiculous basket
Great call, I remember T-Mac used to drop the easiest 30 balls with no sweat on him, dude was too smooth.
Vince Carter was pretty smooth in his heyday, he made the most amazing plays look effortless. Still my team would have to be...
CP3, Gervin, Pierce, Duncan, Hakeem.
Rodney Rogers was pretty smooth.... i think he may have been a lefty as well.
I can't believe no one has said Tracy McGrady yet. This dude did not even look like he AWAKE when he was playing and definitely never looked like he was working too hard... That's gotta be Smoothe
I can't speak for all-time, but Durant is very smooth, so is Nic Batum, same with Harrison Barnes, but tall jumpshooting small fowards always look smooth for some reason. James Harden and Manu get into the lane so effortlessly and there's so much fluidity in their game, especially Manu. Lamar Odom also has a nice smooth game as well.
nicole kidman is smooth... erm on topic i agree on tmac dude can drop 30 while sleeping
Tmac might have looked smooth but how many times did he do it winning playoff series?
Tmac should be on everyone's list. I watched the game where he scored 62 points on NBAtv, and the way he got it was just smooth as butter. It looked effortless
I think this makes his case as one of the smoothest....hell his nick name is Clyde the Glyde http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oU-vSeXskRY
I think the "smoothest" era for basketball players was definately the 1970's. Dr. J, Gervin, Hawkins, Clyde Frazier, Earl Monroe, Pete Maravich, Nate Archibald were all extremly smooth players, as was Kareem Abdul Jabbar for that matter. There were some guys who hit the NBA in the early 80's but were definately influenced by those great players of the 1970's that were smooth too.
pg - Pete Maravich
sg - George Gervin
sf - Dr. J
pf - Elvin Hayes
C - Kareem Abdul Jabbar
If you say effortless yet McGrady isnt on your list? guy didnt even look like he was trying half the time. michael jordan obviously needs to be on this list, Earl the Pearl Monroe was pretty damn smooth as well. Dr J was as smooth as they come, especially the way he ran up and down the court and glided effortlessly over the other players.
Vince in his heyday
T-Mac, just look at the eyes
Lamar Odom in his younger days was pretty smooth
Just naming some I've seen, too young to comment on some of the older players
Tmac without a doubt has one of the smoother games I've ever seen. His shot looks so effortless regained less where he shoots from
Sam Perkins was so smooth he looked like he was talking a nap!
Melo and T-Mac come to mind
Chris Webber is my definition of smooth for a big guy.
Iceman as brought up many times already. Same with Ray.
Worthy is a good pick. IMO, he has the smoothest looking dunk ever. Just the way he moved around the court, even off the ball.
I was thinking McGrady coming into this thread. I think it helped that he was so tall and long for his position.
Only one Dr. J mention? Seriously?
Was Sam Perkins mentioned? The guy's nickname was Big Smooth...
