I haven't watched it yet. I recorded on my DVR, but I heard that today that he said that if they gave Jordan one year to get in shape, that would beat LeBron in 1-on-1 at the age of 49! They guy's the ultimate public troll!
He also thinks Jordan's master plan is to return at the age of 50. He said that during his comeback, he would be an 8th man and average 15 ppg! I listen to Skip a lot, but the man's delusional!
I honestly don't think Jordan would be an NBA caliber player right now if he decided to come back. He's not terribly out of shape for a retired NBA player, but I think he's too out of shape to get back in basketball shape at his age. Him working out to get in shape would take a HUGE toll on his body. And he would be to slow. He wouldn't be able to defend or create his own shot. I know they always say you jumpshot never goes away, but first of all, Jordan was never an elite 3-point shooter. He was solid from deep, but not elite. He had an elite mid-range game, but he wouldn't have the quickness and athleticism to create space to get his shot off. He wouldn't be able to slash AT ALL! He has no more ups and wouldn't be able to get to the rim or finish around the rim.
I'm not ragging on Jordan. He's the greatest player to ever play the game, but I'm talking about RIGHT NOW, even if you did give him one year to get in shape. LeBron would smoke him 1 on 1. So many people are getting hyped up over that one dunk he had the other day, but he barely even jumped. He dunked it because he's pretty tall, has long arms, and big hands. I doubt he would be able to dunk in an actual NBA game right now.
Does anynbody agree with Skip? If you do, PLEASE speak up!
No, lebron would win right now. It would be interesting if they we're playing prime vs prime but this is not a video game and we can't turn back the wheel of time. MJ is the g.o.a.t but at 49 I don't think he can beat lebron james who is entering or is in his prime now.
All jokes aside Michael may not need the year to beat him. As we've seen in the playoffs Lebron doesn't have a go to one on one move. Let's not even talk about the difference in competitive spirit.
I think LeBron would be to scared too play Jordan anyway.
^^^^ thats true maybe Lebron vs scottie pippen is a suitable matchup
First of all, Skip Bayless gets paid to be a retard, and make conrov ersial and stupid comments. Second I wish they could replace Skip with Stephen A. And third but not least, I don't think an ultra slow, slightly out of shape, unconditioned, beat up, slashing 6-6 49 year old could beat Lebron. I will say this though. 35, and 36 year old Mike would beat Lebron at ANY age.
I think If Jordan came into the league, he would be sort of like a closer. I am serious. He plays most of his minutes in the 4th, gives you 15-20 minutes a game, maybe gets you 6-7 points a game, sort of a liability on D, due to his ultra slow feet, but with the game on the line, I would never bet against him.
I would absolutly love to see him come back, but it ain't happening son. He has to sell the WHOLE Charolatte Bobcats. It took the old owner 2 years to sell them, I don't think he can get it done, but then again..................
Mike at 40plus years cannot be Lebron or many other players in the NBA one on one. Its not just Lebron that Mike cant beat one on one, there maybe some elite College players he cant be one on one. Mike is really old now. In his prime he would have destroyed Lebron and probably any other challengers for that matter. Skip usually talks crazy but he is right on the money with this one.
I highly doubt it, but who knows. One on one is completely different than 5 on 5. I have routinely seen inferior players beat better players one on one. There is a big gap in condition, but one year for Michael Jordan to get in shape for say a game of 21 is possible. An NBA finals is a big stage, but so is playing the greatest of all time in a game of one on one and facing the thought of potentially losing. With that said, ESPN is grabbing for ratings right now. The channel doesn't perform too well when Basketball and Football aren't available and that includes trades and free agency in the offseason.
Mike was good, but at 49? WTF. Skip STFU! And I'm an LBJ hater. Mike with the Wiz was the least efficient starting scorer that avg 20 or more. Understandable he was still able to put up 20, but any nba player can put up 20 if given enough shots. I hope truely that MJ does not have any intentions on coming back, otherwise it would sincerely make him look bad. He left on a perfect note with the Bulls, then made a mistake coming back with the Wiz where he didn't even make starting all-star (granted he DID start after VC gave him HIS OWN position). That was the first let down. For him to come back as a meer 8th man or simple role player would do the legacy of Mike no good whatsoever.
Just listened to it on ESPN radio, here is the link
Wow, boy do I feel bad for poor Chris Brousard. I am now convinced that ESPN does not know who to hire and who to send to a mental asylum.
It's just..........I mean.............Sontimes it better just not to say anything.....................................
Skip can be an idiot at times and this is one of them...
I thought this was about a prime MJ... Now that'd be a different story. I think a prime MJ would destroy LeBron.
^^^I don't think there is really any question of that IMO.
Skip Bayless is a funny dude, but as for in their primes...ehh it probably depends who gets ball first. Personally Kobe vs Jordan in their primes would be more fun to watch because of the trash talk that would be going on between them
LeBron just doesn't strike me as a one on one player for some reason. I did read he destroyed Melo in a one on one game during high school though, so maybe I'm wrong.
This is somewhat off of the subject, but has anybody ever played the game where you get a group of people together and you each take turns going one on one? Here's how the game goes:
- Two players start out... One on offense and one on defense. Everybody else waits in a line.
- IF the guy with the ball scores, then he stays on offense and the guy playing defense goes to the back of the line... The next person in the line steps up to play defense. IF the guy doesn't score, then he goes to the back of the line and the guy playing defense is now on offense... And the next guy in line steps up to play defense vs him.
- That same process repeats over and over again, until someone can score on every single person in a row on. That person wins the game.
That's one of my favorite games... It gets super competitive, especially when a person is about to win the game. I've played the game with Eric Gordon, George Hill, Courtney Lee, Jeff/MarcusTeague, Robert Vaden and a bunch of other players from our area... This game will grow hair on your chest because you can't back down from a challenge!
Replace Bayless with Stephen A? No Thanks!
Stephen A. is so loud, I can hear him when my TV is on mute..
Yeah, Steven A loves to hear his own voice just as much as Skip. ESPN as a whole is full of blow holes.
So you're telling me you don't think any of this is funny?
I definitely thought you meant the Chicago Bulls MJ. A near 50 year old MJ against Lebron? This kind of thing is why I can't take Bayless serious.
I'm surprised people think it would be a contest with MJ in his prime against any current player in their prime and that includes Kobe. It makes me wonder how many of you have never seen MJ play. To be honest, he played in a much tougher era with far better players and with rules that didn't allow for a bunch of perimeter players to never get touched.. Sure you can say guys weren't as athletic, but guys now for the most part are not as skilled and you have a lot of low basketball IQs floating around in the league. They also had some sick athletes in his day. You used to see guys get dunked on all the time, but part of that was also the fact that guys weren't afraid to challenge shots like most are now. Everyone is too caught up about not being in a poster.
Kobe in my opinion is the only one that could have given Jordan a game in his prime, but even then Jordan was virtually a better player except for maybe 3 point shooting and not by a wide enough margin to make any kind of difference. Everyone harps on Lebron's playoff performance, but Kobe has had some horrible playoff games in his time, especially in the finals.
Flat out MJ cant play in the league today period, his kness would not allow him to and his atleticism is nowhere near NBA level. Second of all LBJ would smoke MJ at 1 on 1 and it prob wouldnt even be close, people can argue this point all they want, but Lebron would get to the hole at will because Jordan wouldnt be able to defend, so LBJ's suspect jumper wouldnt be put to the test. Third Skip Bayless is an idiot and I never put any credit into what he says, hes the sports equivalent of Howard Stern, a shock jock whos job is to stir up controversity saying outlandish things.
If Skip Bayless were hanging off a branch with one hand, on the edge of a cliff, and LeBron James was the only person there to pull him up, I think Skip would let go just to give LeBron the double whammy (two middle fingers). I have never seen a sports caster have so much disdain for one human being, or kick a person when he is down more than that man.
It's really a shame because Skip Bayless' attention to detail and knowledge is incredible. He really does his homework. But in the last few years, especially with the LeBron saga, he's just become a gimmick who will say things for shock value.
I agree Skip Bayless has become a gimmick. I actually think he's smarter than what he has shown on tv, but instead he makes outrageous claims for attention. He's the ultimate and most glorified troll
As far as 1 on 1 I'm not so sure MJ would beat everyone in the league even in his prime. 1 on 1 doesn't show who the better player is I've seen guys who are starters on the highschool team lose to guys who don't even come off the bench and even to ppl who just play streetball. Just cause someone is good in the actual team game doesn't mean they would beat every player who's worse than them. 1 on 1 basketball is almost a different game.
Yeah Skip is actually a pretty smart dude. He's right about a lot of things too. In the 2010 Finals, he picked the Caltic over the Lakers in 7, and he almost looked like a genius. Jay Crawford gave him the option to switch picks because Kendrick Perkins got injured, but he stayed with his pick, and ended up just being off by 1 game. But if Kendrick Perkins never got hurt, more than likely his prediction would've came true.
The main problem IMO with him is that he holds grudges against guys like LeBron. Even when LeBron was balling before the Finals, he would try to find any and every excuse to try to downplay LeBron's performances.
skip bayless is a lebron d*ck hater
and @ andxxx
one on one ur right, doesnt prove anything
i remember when chris douglas-roberts got drafted, he said he had never lost a game on one on one
and i dont see him averaging 20 ppg at all
if you give 1 year for michael jordan to be in shape he would definitely be able to beat lebron 1n1, that's 1 year guys 1 year. he might not have the speed and so do lebron he doesnt have it anymore, a lot of people noticed that. Jordan's fadeaway became better when he got older there is no way lebron james will be able to stop that without fouling.
Dude, did you just say Lebron lost speed? He may have lost some off his amazing speed, but nothing close to a 49 year old. And that fadeaway would only be effective if he were able to get high enough on that shot, and I don't think he can, and stop hiding Skip, we know it's you.
I've been watching postings never really commenting on any. But this caught my eye and forced me to comment... I actually Retweeted Skip's tweet when he said this. First off, LeBron couldn't even hit a shot being pressured playing knock out with kids. Y'all think playing against MJ that would change? Also at age "40" Jordan averaged 23, 5 assists, and 1.5 steals a game. This is right before the hand-checking BS. Jordan could very much so average 15 in this water down game.
LeBron didn't give Melo buckets. It's the other way around. It always has, LeBron CAN'T guard Melo. Look at this year or go all the way back high school when the played each other n Melo WON. Check history folks...
Side note, I think Melo's offensive game is reminiscent of MJ's. Closer to him than Kobe actually. Jordan didn't take tough shots like Kobe all game long. He created space with a quick move then pulled up or got physical with you. For this reason alone is why LeBron can't guard Melo and would def have trouble with MJ as his game is similar.
MJ is 49 and not in shape
lebron is 26 and the best athlete in the nba and maybe ever in the nba and is in shape
how the hell would MJ beat lebron in one on one, it would never happen at this stage in MJ's life
i cant believe nba00 just said if u give MJ one year to get in shape he would def. be able to beat lebron in 1 on 1
and u said lebron lost his foot speed... wow, yeah hes not as explosive as he used to be... but hes not a slug when slashing or anything now
how is this even debatalbe
we need to officially disregard EVERYTHING skip bayless says about the nba
he says this sh!t to cause controversy... but he took it to a whole new level with this one
I used to enjoy watching First and 10 because Skip always interested me in a way. When I was a Freshman or Sophomore in college, I used to watch him all the time. I loved the way he formed opinions, and the passion he exeuted while delivering them. In recent years, I haven't been able to watch him, and it's not so much the contrarion part of him, because I still enjoy Colin Cowherd, and he's very much like that. Skip is now going for shock value, which means we can probably expect more stupid claims such as "Lebron can't beat 49 year old Michael 1 v 1."
If you claim that Scottie Pippen is not one of the fifty best players in league history, then you should be kicked out of the doors at Bristol never to be heard from again. In order to breathe easier, and not get upset, I'd suggest boycotting anything related to Skip Bayless. You won't want to ram your head through a wall when he says a 49 year old can beat Lebron James 1 on 1.
as if Jordan couldn't though... Yall talking like LeBron is this great one on one player who can get his shot whenever he wants it. I wouldn't go so far to say LeBron will walk away with this because he's 26 and Jordan 48...
Do yall not understand that???And yall do realize Jordan plays in rec leagues right?
Dude, first of all, we all respect Jordan and love him as a player, and I believe that 35 to 36 year Jordan could beat Lebron at ANY age. But this is just down right ridiculous! I mean..........Really now? Lebron is no scrub, he is one of the most talented players to ever play the game! If he had a better work ethic, he would be celebrating his 3rd consecutive tittle with the Cavs. He underachieves and still gets 27, 7 and 7! So you are telling me that a 49 year old will beat him? Chris Brousard was right when he said he felt embarrased talking about this. May God bless those around and about Skip Bayless, they need it.
I'd rather see Bayless v. LBJ One on One
At age 40 MJ put up 23 a game... This is prior to the hand-checking rule in 03-04 season (LeBron's rookie year). I'm not saying MJ will beat him with ease, but I am saying Jordan has more than a chance with him. So to say this is "stupid" is beyond ridiculous.
Cmon man, you can't really believe a 49 year old Jordan can beat Lebron. For as much as Lebron has choked in the Finals, people have to remember he is one of the best players in the league today. Jordan was the best, but even his shot wouldn't be the same as when he took hundreds a day in practice. His handles would be worse than when he played against elite defenders every day.
Lebron would just ram through MJ with speed and strength and it wouldn't even be fun. Have you ever played 1 on 1 against someone much stronger, faster and taller than you? It's very hard, even if you are more skilled.
The only way to decide this is NBA 2k11 blacktop mode 1 on 1. CPU vs CPU and find out who wins lol
Maybe in knockout or horse MJ wins but there is no way in hell he could match LBJ's physicality or quickness at his age. No way in hell.
Unless MJ really isn't human.
