TarHeelRavenParticipant0-2 FG, 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 steals, 1 TO, 5 fouls against a below average team When the subs came in at the end of the game, the starters were all up on their feet and he was the only guy sitting down. Not a good look at all. What’s going on with this guy?

he_gets_bucketsParticipantI’m a big critic of his and think he was way overhyped coming in but I still think its too early to start thinking he’s not a top 5 talent. Andre Drummond played pretty terribly at Uconn and had a grown mans body, and is making teams pay for letting him slip. I have a feeling that just like Towns and Davis before him, Skal will look better in a pro offense, but it is very disturbing if I’m a GM that he is struggling this much. But again, its only early December, he is playing on a stacked team and he’s not used to being a 2nd or 3rd option on offense, he still needs to acclimatize I think.

Robb_CParticipantLike I said before and was negged to death for it.. hes overrated.. He just started playing the game, and its clear college basketball is a bit overwhelming for him, he will get better as the season goes on but he needs time

Sewok15ParticipantSkal looks like Nerlens Noel on offense and Andrea Bargnani on defense right now. He is certainly raw and will improve but the people who were talking about taking him at #1 should slow their roll because he is a project.
I at least expected him to show strong defensive instincts but he fouled out in 13 minutes today blocking one shot and getting zero boards. You cannot compare him (or his situation) to Drummond because the thing that makes Andre special is the ability to move laterally with his size and more importantly strength…which makes him a beast on the boards and that is really where he dominates the game. Skal is averaging under 4 rebounds a game and is 50 pounds ligther than Andre.
I think his lack of offensive production is likely effecting his defense. Kentucky is a very guard oriented team with Murray, Ulis and Briscoe so they will get Skal his share of easy buckets on lobs and put backs but I think it might serve them well to try to get him a couple post touches or jump shots in the beginning of the game to get him into the flow. Coach Cal knows that he needs him playing much better by tourney time so I look for him to focus on trying to get him going these next two games before conference play begins.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantIm not comparing their skillsets im comparing their situations- lack of production in college only to explode once they hit the NBA. Drummond was an average rebounder in college and never displayed the monster abilities he is showing now in Detroit at Uconn. What I’m comparing him with skal is that given a few years of development and a bit more motivation in the form of monetary compensation and Skal could look like a completely different player 4 years into his NBA career to now

Sewok15ParticipantI know this but because of their skill set you can’t compare their situations. Drummond showed the promise of an elite skill based on his size and athleticism. Skal is probably more well rounded at this point and is still very raw but I am not exactly seeing anything that he does well enough to even get minutes in the league at this point. Andre Drummond had 22 and 8 against OKC in a 20 minute run in his 5th NBA game. Skal has a lot further to go is what I am trying to say because of his lean body.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI’m not gonna overreact to a few bad games because he still has time to turn things around. Everyone was ready to label brandon ingram a dissapointment a few weeks ago and no one is saying that now. However, skal looks a step behind on everything and overwhelmed physically right now. He is clearly having trouble adjusting to the college game, where he cant just rely solely on his superior size and athleticsm. Poythress and Lee and more experienced and better players at the college level and that’s why they are getting the majority of the mins. as they should. However, its a long season and I think skal will get better as the year goes along. Hes definitely a little bit more of a project than I originally thought.

IlladelphParticipantThat is one horrible stat line, and I’m sure Skal is unhappy about it. But for those of you who are ready to write him off, consider that he only played 13 minutes before fouling out. Dude only got 2 shots off. It’s not like he played for 36 minutes, and went 0-20. He clearly never got anything close to any sort of flow going, and fouled out before he could do anything. Lots of bigs struggle early in the season, and he is finding his way. It’s too early to write him off.

SkalAndJamalParticipantLook I am obviously the biggest Skal supporter on draft.net, and anything is possible… but right now, Skal has been horrific. I think he will eventually figure out just by knowing a bit of his personality but this could really take till this junior year. Like Marcus Lee starting and Humphries coming back and being the 2nd string Center is not totally out of the question… That’s more likely than Skal being a #1 pick.
I was wrong about this kid and I will own up to it. I wont change thy username till after march hahaaaa

NJHooper95ParticipantPart of the game is a bit much for him right now. He has good potential but he needs to get stronger. I think he will have some great games this season but he will struggle in the league until he gets stronger

ropeParticipantI have been skeptical of Skal since he first started being discussed as the top HS player. Never like the way it looked like he was being handled.
One of these Kentucky 5 star bigs is going to bust hard. Maybe not in college, but eventually in the pros. I don’t wish bad things on anyone, but I think Skal has that look.

SpaceghostParticipantI think Ivan Rabb is a better prospect than SKAL..SKAL plays in IMO with nooo intensity, College hoops is not the Jordan Brand Classic where defense is optional. And you play for the Big Blue machine you get a teams best every night. Tai Wynard will also be available to Coach Cal soon and that could be more mins SKAL losses to a more physically ready big.
