markfitz14ParticipantDraftexpress.com has Skal Labissiere (Damn thats a tough last name to spell) listed as the #1 pick. Maybe they still see a center as the most valuable player becuase it is harder to get a center that will be a perinial all top player in the league. Or is he on par with the skill and potential of Simmons? Who would you guys compare his game to? Don’t say a guy from 30 years ago that know one here prbly even saw play like NBAdraft.net does sometimes smh. Are Skal and Simmons going to be like 1a and 1b like Wiggins and Parker were?

SkalAndJamalParticipantSkal reminds me of a more offensive orientated less defensive Anthony Davis. Still will be a great 2-way player.
I think Ben probably will be the better COLLEGE player, but I think Skal is the more of a guarantee at the next level and has a higher ceiling. Skal stock is soaring right now so I would say go with the guy who is climbing rapidly than Ben who has steadily just been really great since he was in 8th grade. Also, what Calipari will do for Skal simply will be more than what Johnny Jones does for Ben to jumpstart their nba career.

wonzi_bellsParticipantHe right around there. The comps for him poor’s man Anthony Davis or Chris Bosh or a defensively-apted LaMarcus Aldridge. I think he’s less of a quick-twitched athlete than Anthony Davis and Chris Bosh but quicker than LaMarcus Aldridge but doesn’t have his low post-game, though he’ll be a much better defensive player than LMA. His mid-range stroke is very smooth.
I’m have him as the #1 pick too since I see his game translating better.

Magic JordanParticipantI personally think they have the potential to be a better 1/2 draft then Wiggins and Parker. I think Skal is a significantly better prospoect than Parker which is what it boils down to. Wiggins and Simmons, while very different in play styles are both elite prospects, at least in my eyes. Simmons is a prototypical modern day NBA 4 man, who will be able to play some 3. He does indeed remind me of a young Lebron in some sense, however I don’t think he will ever be able to score with the ease that Lebron scores with. I remember debating with a lot of friends and hoop heads back in the day about Lebron needing to play point guard to exploit a mismatch. I was always of the belief that his true mismatch was at the 4 position where he can get up and down and outrun the other teams big. I think the same thing can be said for Simmons.
Skal though??! About a year ago I started a few threads about Skal begging the question how he wasn’t rated in the top 3. I have seen a few of his full games and for someone his size, and his age to be such a ridiculously smooth and accurate shooter is scary. Think prime jump shooting Lamarcus Aldridge…. as an 18 year old. It’s insane honestly. Such a pure shooter which is his biggest attraction for me. He has less than ideal length and a skinny frame… but he seems to be able to get off the ground pretty well and seems to have decent defensive instincts. To me defense is an afterthought with him because I believe he will be that special offensively that you just don’t care what he does on defense.
To me, Simmons is the obvious best player because he will impact the game in so many ways. People ridiculously question his size, or shooting which seems absurd to me. The kid is 6’10" 240 lbs and he’s not even a college freshman yet. Just an absolute specimen. He’s going to impact the game on both ends of the floor with his other worldly versatility.

T RexThat’s how I felt about Myles Turner. How do you sleep on a guy with a beautiful, accurate 3 point shot when he has about the same length as Shaq, and great timing for shot blocking?
Because he looks funny running up and down the court?
Turner is going to be a #1 scoring option in the near future, or at least 1B option to PG13.

kdtriv01ParticipantThere have been many college players that have been ok, but not great pro players and some busts. Remember Psycho-T? How about, I refuse to write his name, the guy who hit the game winner against UK in the tourney that they play every year in march?
My point is that I think Simmons will be an awesome college player, but will be good but not great pro. I remember Shaun Livingston, at 6-7 being the next great thing. He got injured and never really panned out. I do not see Simmons as the "next Lebron." I see him as the the next Livingston. I think he’ll be good and hopefully he won’t get hurt. He’ll make a couple of all-star teams, but not a generational type player.
I’m a UK fan, full disclosure, and I’m a little higher on Skal’s potential. He is long, skinny yes, but his abilities are crazy at this point. Don’t misunderstand, I’m not say he is a generational talent, but I think in the end his pro potential is greater than Simmons.
Think of it like a Towns, Okafur comparison. Jah clearly had the better college game, but Towns was viewed as the unquestioned Number 1 pick because of game translation. Simmons is going to have a few problems when he gets to the NBA and a strong SF or a quick PF D’s him up. Skal can shoot all over the floor, while Simmons has a mean handle and gets to the rim. At that rim you have guys like AD and the Stifle tower waiting.
I hate that I’m saying this, but one guy to watch out for is Brandon Ingram. (now I’ll go wash out my mouth.) KD type game to him.

Magic JordanParticipantWith you on this. Livingston was a PG through and through. Simmons is a 3/4 (in my eyes a 4). Livingston was a great passer but he was a PG. Simmons is an above average passer, for his position. But he is not a PG. Just because someone handles the ball a lot and can pass does not mean they are a PG. He is closer to being positionless. He will be able to guard probably 5 spots on the floor at a decent rate.
The only thing him and Livingston have in common is they are tall and were good passers, other than that it is such a lazy comparison.

kdtriv01ParticipantMy point wasn’t that they were the same. My point was that that were both:
1. Taller than average for their position.
2. Skinnier than average for their position
3. Incredibly hyped because of excelling in a particular area where people their size generally do not.
That’s it. I’m not much of "troll" as you all call it. I qualify my statements (Ex. full disclosure, I’m a UK fan) and try to provide my thoughts. I thought that was what this was for.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantI have to admit I’m more intrigued with skals potential than any other player in this draft. I don’t think his ceiling is quite as high as Anthony Davis because he isn’t quite the athlete Davis is but he has a build and skill set that is very similar to Davis at the same age. I think there is a very good chance he ends up as the number one pick, but its kind of early to make a concrete prediction yet.

SandSimmons is a joke…thats how good he is. Only thing he cant do is light up from 3…yet.
Hes going to dunk on plenty of big men…dont worry about his lack of athleticism at 6’10". He runs right through defenders.
He could play NBA next season and average 12, 6 and 4 (on a good team)
20, 8 & 5 on the 76ers
By the time he’s 24 he’s going to be 1st Team NBA.

Memphisboy14ParticipantSkal I think actually has a good amount of NBA potential. His jumpshot is pretty good. He’s very agile for someone his size and has very good size for his position. And, at his age and stage of development he seems to be pretty strong already. Granted he will never be a huge guy but his arms are already gaining much more muscle and definition. Personally kind of knock how much potential he has all because of the big men that Kentucky had before him. He’s not as long as Karl Anthony Towns, or as athletic as Nerlens Noel and Anthony Davis but I would say that he has more 2 way potential than Noel and Towns. I wouldn’t be shocked if he got more consideration as the 1st overall pick as his college season goes along.

theballerwayParticipantIs if his shot is falling in college. We’ve all seen many ‘good shooter’ in HS struggle at the college level. I just wonder how much he’ll get to use it at UK as guys sort of fall into a role. KAT had little opportunity to show his but still managed to creep into no.1 but his comp for the spot wasn’t as strong as Simmons(referring to Okafor/Russell). Im just wondering how Cal will use him as he will feature but nowhere near at the usage rate of Simmons.

The Scare Crow RisesParticipantThat way the 76ers have a better shot at drafting Ben Simmons lol
Big men always climb up the draft board and a stud like Skal should be at the top of many Big Boards come draft time
Simmons is IMO the best prospect followed by Ingram and Skal

HitsterParticipantCurrently I’d say Simmons is the best protest but Skal was been a top 3 or higher on all 2016 mocks virtually from day one so he looks a legit prospect.
He’s going to a powerhouse team where he will likely be on of the very key players and we all know Coach Cal’s draft history in recent years.
So we have Jamal and Skal wanting to be picked high for Coach Cal.
Seriously we’ll see a lot about Skal over the coming season as we will about Simmons in the battle to be top dog in the draft.
