raymondlyfParticipantDid Sixers lost 2 of their first round pick tonight? Their tanking path hasnt been too smooth so far…

negguaryParticipantThey still are in position to get a pretty high pick with their own pick as a result of tanking.

trelos6ParticipantThey still might get Heat’s pick. Need someone to leapfrog the Heat into the top 3 though.
Fingers crossed it’s the Jazz. They deserve a high pick after shipping out Kanter and Gobert’s explosion.
Imagine, Russell, Exum, Hayward, Favors, Gobert

220ParticipantThey still have a shot at the Lakers pick as well. I think they have a higher percentage chance at the Lakers pick than the Heat’s pick.

The Scare Crow RisesParticipantThey still have their draft pick and could win the damn lottery and sit in the driver seat on Draft Night…
I agree the loss of the Lakers’ and Heat picks throws a curve ball at our rebuild but we are due to get those picks eventually and can now focus on walking away with D’Angelo Russell and the BPA with the OKC pick, we can try to use our 2nd round picks to move up and nab a PG like Grant or Jones…
We still have MAX cap space and 3 1st Round Draft picks in 2016(prospects like Simmons and Company will complete the core of Russell/Noel/Embiid plus a Pg in 2015 and Free Agent in 15′ or 16′
Lots of things could happen from now until the Draft, a few lottery balls bounce in our favor(like the Magic AND Kings leap frogging the Lakers or someone outside the Top 10 getting lucky and dropping LA and MIA in the process
I’m not going to complain if we walk away with Russell and Grant in 15′, Simmons in 16′ and a slew of high risk/high reward 2nd round picks in between…I also can’t see us not spending a little bit of Cap Space on a Big Free Agent in the next 2 years…

Rip255The franchise is a joke. Free agents wont go there unless theyre overpaid and every team has cap space anyways so why would they choose a team like Philly.
Theyll be the worst team in the league next season too.
Theyre losing fans and sponsors wont want to be associated with them. I actually predict Philly will have an unbroken run of failure for the next 5-10 years.
Btw Embiid isn’t that good..

omphalosParticipantI agree that the franchise is a joke, but Embiid is going to be special if he can just stay healthy.
If this works out with their draft picks and they start winning then people are going to sign there, it’s Philly, not Minnesota.
But there’s going to be a lot of bad blood about them for the near future.

I can’t wait until they fail… I’m writing a huge post about it…
But knowing them, this ALWAYS been a 10 year plan.

delco610ParticipantSo when other teams like the Timberwolves, Knicks and Lakers tank its ok but when the Sixers do it, it’s a disgrace and a joke of a franchise. Last time I checked the Thunder tanked a few years ago which allowed them to draft Durant, Westbrook, Harden and Ibaka but their franchise is viewed as being brilliant for hitting on all those picks. With Noel, Embiid (if healthy) Saric and the draft picks from this year the Sixers could potentially but themselves in a similiar position instead of being stuck in medocrity such as teams in the East like Atlanta, Milwaukee, Toronto and Boston.

machu46ParticipantIbaka was the 24th pick in the draft lol. They didn’t tank for him at all. They were the 5th worst team the year they got Durant, and the team featured Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis (who was great at that time). They just missed a combined 40-50 games so they ended up sinking and got lucky in the lottery.
They started the rebuild the year after they got Durant when they traded Allen for a top 5 pick and signed-and-traded Rashard Lewis (which in retrospect, was the right call). Outside of those two and Durant, the cupboard was bare anyways, and obviously Jeff Green didn’t pan out the way they hoped he might. And then to get Harden, they once again weren’t even a bottom 3 team.
The Sonics/Thunder weren’t purposefully bad. They just played their young guys and let them develop, and then got very lucky in the lottery/draft by nailing all their picks. The 76ers have been purposefully trying to suck the last few years and we haven’t even gotten to really see anything come of it in terms of prospects. The two situations aren’t even close to similar.
The Knicks and Lakers have obviously tanked this year though. And I don’t think the T’Wolves have. Like the Sonics, they’re just taking their lumps as their young hopeful stars develop.
And Atlanta is currently the top seed in the East lol. They aren’t mediocre. Boston is rebuilding and happen to be winning while they do it. Milwaukee has already rebuilt and have all their core guys and are now hoping to make their ascension to contender status. Toronto could definitely be stuck in medocrity though.

Magic JordanParticipantOkay the Lakers may have packed in a few games at points during the season but let’s not lump them in with the 76ers and the Knicks who shut down a superstar right after he played extensive minutes in the all star game, traded away Tyson Chandler for next to nothing and dumped Jr Smith and Shumpert. The Lakers have not, though I wish they did tank to the level of those other trash franchises.
If a certain trade years ago doesn’t get vetoed the Lakers have Chris Paul and Dwight Howard right now and are routinely a top 4 team in the west. I remember people saying at the time that veto would send the Lakers back 5 or 6 years and I had a hard time understanding why. Well now I do and its obvious, that kind of talent is hard to acquire, but to say the Lakers are tanking or to lump them in with those routinely bad franchises is absurd. They are just a bad team, there is a difference. There is this notion that the 76ers and Knicks are these great franchises and its only a matter of time before they are restored back to glory and its completely false. Both have been garbage for the better part of 30 years now? What one finals appearance for the Knicks in that time span? A couple 2nd round teams from the 76ers?
Please. I wish the Lakers would have tanked, but they didn’t, and I am still willing to bet they turn it around before these notoriously overrated franchises.

machu46ParticipantTo be fair regarding the Lakers and Knicks:
I think the Lakers legitimately tried to sign good players this off-season, and when they got turned down, they just decided not to bother. You look at their roster now and it’s seriously a joke, but they did try in the offseason, and the fact that Kobe and Randle both went down was really rough for them.
The Knicks just got antsy about trading Chandler. If they had waited, they could have gotten more for him. The JR trade really wasn’t all that bad though. It looks worse in retrospect because JR has been pretty good for Cleveland and Shump has gotten his defense back, but at the time, people thought it would be very tough to trade JR at all, much less to get anything in return, which they did in the form of expirings.
I agree I think the Lakers turn it around before New York or Philly.

delco610ParticipantMy point in regards to Oklahoma City is they still built their team thru the draft and having some luck along the way. The Hawks even with the best record in a terrible conference are still widely considered the 3rd best team behind Cleveland and Chicago in terms of making it to the finals. Stop with Boston and Milwaukee who are both byproducts of playing in a conference where teams under .500 make it into the playoffs. None of Boston’s current players on the roster project to be superstars. The Bucks have been able to acquire a few nice pieces in The Greek Freak, MCW and Parker wants he returns. Granted Minnesota’s core is still very young but they still have Rubio, Kevin Martin and Pekovic albeit those guys were injured for large portions of the season.

The Scare Crow RisesParticipantBut Why is it that everyone wants to throw hate at Philly when they didn’t even finish with the worst record…
Teams like NY and LA had worst seasons considering they came into the year with perennial All Stars like Kobe and Carmelo and finished at the bottom of the league, I could say the same thing about Minnesota who had years of drafting in the Top 5 and wasted away picks and potential, now we have to give them a pass because they lucked out and traded Love for Wiggins…
How about the Heat who were just contending for a title last year tanking in the last few weeks of the season even though they still have Wade, Deng, Dragic and Bosh when he returns, they also found Whiteside and brought back Beasley as well, now they get to add their pick in the Top 10(They could win a Top 3 pick in theory) yet no one says a thing…
Philly gets all the misdirected hatred for unknown reason…
They only traded Holiday for Noel and Saric, let go of Turner and Hawes last season and Thad Young this summer and MCW at the deadline…
We still have assets coming from all those moves and our Max cap space… We may have put out a mediocre roster the last few years but we still didn’t finish with the worst record and the team played hard for Brent Brown…
If we draft Russell with our pick I’m very confidential we will turn it around with he, Noel and Embiid, add in Saric and a few prospects in 2016 and we are in good shape going forward (critics be damned)

Magic JordanParticipantLucked out on Love for Wiggins? Yes the previous GM blew lots of picks, but not the pick,or trade for the pick that netted them Wiggins huh? I would take Minnesota’s young talent over the 76ers right now ten times out of ten, and they didn’t have to roll out a bunch of D Leaguers to acquire it.

220ParticipantMinnesota’s woes have often been more due to injury than lack of talent. The 76ers certainly had more than their fair share of guys who wouldn’t be on nearly any other team’s roster. That mentality netted them Robert Covington though so it’s certainly not all bad.
It’s a shame to say but the worst place to be in the NBA is generally the middle of the pack where the 76ers lived for years. If your team can’t bring in free agents the draft is the only option. I wish more teams would work to be like the Spurs though and get top notch scouts and player development people. That’s the key to long term success for nearly all the teams in the NBA.
I just hope the 76ers try to win next season. If Embiid is healthy and they add at least their lottery pick they should at least be a 30 win team next year. I feel bad for Brett Brown because he’s getting these guys to commit on defense and play hard. I’d really like to see what he could manage with better talent.
