Situations can really help/hurt a career in the NBA..Can Tyrus Thomas turn it around?

I'm from Baton Rouge, LA. A moment ago I was having a talk with someone about one of the hometown heroes and someone I know personally..Tyrus Thomas.

We were talking about how his career has hit rock bottom in Charlotte, then I got to think about how much potential he had/has and I wondered why he wasn't playing more. Tyrus is known to have a bad attitude and that hit a boiling point last year, when Paul Silas challenged him to a fight after a game, now most people call Tyrus a bust, yes he was drafted higher than his talent but Tyrus doesn't even turn 26 for another week so he still has time.

I said he should be used like Serge Ibaka on this new Bobcats team. The new coaching staff wants to run on offense and play a pressure defense. 2 things that are the strengths of Tyrus.(He and Biyombo should be great rim protectors)

So I compared the stats of the 2 players. Tyrus Thomas has career averages of 8 points, 5 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, and 1 steal in 20 minutes a game. Serge Ibaka averages 8.5 points, 7 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and no steals in 24 minutes a game. Stats not that much different.

In 2010 Tyrus had per 36 stats of 16.7 points and 10.1 rebounds, in 2011 he had per 36 stats of 17.1 points and 9.4 rebounds. So he can obviously be productive when given the opportunity.

Last year was obviously a bad situation he got injured 2 years in a row and had a coach he wouldn't allow him to grow and didn't like him as a person. So can he turn it around and can he be a Serge Ibaka type player for the Charlotte Bobcats this year?

Biyombo, Tyrus, and MKG, seems like they could make a good defensive trio with work.

Yes he's always had good per

Yes he's always had good per 36 min stats, but the problem is he can't stay on the floor that long due to his low iq and questionable decision making. Dude has serious talent he just stop working hard after he got that big contract

I think Tyrus Thomas and the

I think Tyrus Thomas and the Bobcats need to take the next step in his development. Serge has a great situation, he is mature and his team isn't in disarray. His IQ is low, but some players get to work through their mistakes he's never had the opportunity to.

I liked thomas as a prospect

But he makes some seriously questionable decisions on offense. He is never going to get good minutes until he starts making better decisions on offense and fouling less on D.

If it wasn't for his bad

If it wasn't for his bad attitude and immaturity he could have been a lot better. Also Ibaka is a much better shot blocker. Enless he has a huge year for the really bad Bobcats, and shows he can put it all together, he could revitalize his career. Otherwise i think he's destined to be a good career back up.

I think it is still early. I

I think it is still early. I think if the new coach and him can click then we can see something from him because he has a lot of talent. Also Cousins looked a lot better with Coach Smart than Coach Wesphalt. Coaches and team systems matter with some players. Tyrus Thomas has skills and athleticism that only works with certain systems because he is kind of a tweener.

Unlike like Serge Ibaka who

Unlike like Serge Ibaka who is 6'10 or 6'11 and built. Tyrus Thomas is 6'8'5, also his body type is leaner. That make's a huge difference playing that rim protector role.

another huge difference

another huge difference between serge and tyrus is that serge actually wants too play and takes pride in his game while tyrus is a lazy azz clown who got paid and could care less

he has proved to be very

he has proved to be very immature and doesnt seem willing to work. Ibaka is a difference maker because he is a phenomenal shot blocker, has improved parts of his game offensively and can play an entire game without being in foul trouble. can thomas turn it around? yea sure but it is very unlikely due to his low IQ and his unwilligness to listen to his coaches cause him to mess up a lot when he is in. He has the talent and athleticism to be a player of value but he will probably never fufill his potential
