Sir Charles and Shaq Bench Press Contest

So I'm watching the Bulls v Knicks game and I see a commercial for a promo involving the NBA playoffs and No Pain No Game. Apparently on April 25th Shaq and Chuck are going to have a bench pressing contest. Who ya got?

Not sure if they're doing

Not sure if they're doing combine style or max. My bet is Shaq just because he's like 8 years younger and that starts to add up when you hit your 40's and 50's. I bet both guys in their primes would be pretty even.

I dunno, Chuck has a more

I dunno, Chuck has a more favorable build for bench pressing. He was pretty ripped in his Philly days, they always show that pic of him on TNT. Shaq was incredibly strong, but Barkley might have not been too far behind.

I disagree. Prime Chuck would

I disagree. Prime Chuck would probably beat Shaq no problem. Not sure how many of you guys lift heavy, but the truth is that long arms will kill you when it comes to the bench. Shaq was 7-1 without shoes while Barkley was a shade under 6-5. That's a massive reach advantage for Chuck.

Look at bench press at the NFL combine for example. The tallest OT's with really long arms, no matter how strong they are when it comes to game strength don't usually lift as much as the shorter guards, fullbacks, MLBs and DTs.

Bench isn't a great measurement of functional strength especially when it comes to basketball players. Shaq might have been stronger in his prime but that doesn't mean he would be able to bench press more.

People with longer wingspan

People with longer wingspan usually have a disadvantage when it comes to bench pressing because they have to lift higher compared to someone who has shorter arms. Shaq in his prime is strongest to ever play basketball, but Barkley may have the leverage because if his shorter arms.

yeah i am like semi-pro

yeah i am like semi-pro bodybuilder and i know long arms hurts, but with the huge chest and shoulders Shaq has I believe he would bench like 400lbs, he is a freak athlete overall

talking about prime I believe Chuck was there too but an absolutely-prime-Shaq benched like 450-500 lbs believe me

Bodybuilder? I know you lift

Bodybuilder? I know you lift for ascetics and not really strength but what is your height, weight, and bench?

6ft 210lbs around

6ft 210lbs around 330bench

don't look too hard at it..everyone who goes to the gym aren't bodybuilders but you don't have to be Mr.Olympia to get called an athlete..I'm dedicated, I'm working very hard and for a long time I know a lot about what I'm doing and I get my results...

sooooo that's why i'm saying my goes on Shaq being monster on bench doesn't come from nowhere

I bet they do something like

I bet they do something like a number of 225 pound presses they can do. I suspect Chuck has let himself go the most. But I also think Chuck has crazy innate strength and I wouldn't bet against him. I also agree that if they are being strict about this and making Shaq have to bring the bar down to his chest with each rep that his long arms are going to be a serious disadvantage. On the flip side, Shaq probably has 30 or 40 pounds on Chuck.
